When did you last go through Bkk Suvanabumi SL?
Thanks for the update Red Kilt. December was my last time through subarnavumi airport. Will check out the new setup next month.
SL.
First trip to Thailand coming up in mid to late October. So really not that far away. Looking forward to it and to reading some of the posts on here.
Usually am active on the "Tijuana" area of this site since that is where I usually go. Thailand seems like an entirely new ballgame. Entirely.

SL.
To Sunlover.
Take the airport train is fastest if you don't have a lot of baggage city link take about 40 min to Markasan or Phayathai cost is 45 bht the express cost 150 bht only 30 min less stop and you can transfer to MRT at Markasan station or take a taxi to hotel.
Fast eddie 48.
I have read upon arrival at BKK airport the line for taxis for going into Bangkok can be very long. One solution would be to go up 2 floors to the departure level and get a taxi who dropped a fare?
Has anyone tried this? Any problems or warnings to others who attempt this shortcut?
Been doing this for years without a problem, very efficient never having to wait at all, in fact when you are making your way over to the cab the driver will actually hail you at times. Cost from BKK to Nana, 235 baht minus toll which he avoided this time, seemed just as quick although it was early morning 7 am.

This contrasts with having to hike luggage up tp the Depatures level. Just tto save 50 baht.
. . in fact when you are making your way over to the cab the driver will actually hail you at times.
This has changed now.
As I stated in Post # 7810, there is a machine at the taxi control point that dispenses a ticket which allocates you to a numbered taxi bay after you have pressed the button.
Controllers direct you to your numbered bay. It seems to be a means of keeping a better record too as the ticket shows the cab driver's name and the registration number along with phone numbers to call if you have a problem.
I waited only a few minutes last week as the line moved very rapidly.
I wonder what the meter is reading to Pattaya these days. I am still paying 900 including tolls up top.
I have seen in many Bangkok taxis a printed tariff to most of the other cities in Thailand. It looked rather "official" (but one can never be sure of course) and the prices were quite reasonable and based upon a fixed price per km.
As reported by Stickboy (http://www.stickboybangkok.com/news/15-30-day-visa-exemption-stamps-suspended-at-thai-cambodian-border/).
Thai immigration have suspended 15 and 30 day visa exemption stamps for foreigners coming into the country across the Cambodian border, effective immediately.
The news broke late on Friday night of changes to the rules and many reported on Saturday visa runners at Cambodia and Kanchanaburi border crossings were told if they left Thailand they could not re-enter the country on a visa exemption stamp.
Holders of valid Tourist Visas can still exit and re-enter to activate their second or third entries as normal. Holders of multiple entry visas are also unaffected by these new rules.
UPDATED: Today, Sunday 13th, Aranyaprathet, Ban Packard & Kanchanaburi border crossings were NOT allowing holders of valid visas to exit and re-enter.
The rumour is the restrictions will be lifted in a few days with new rules stating visitors can only stay a maximum of 90 days in a calendar year using visa exemption stamps.
Unfortunately there has been no official announcement from the immigration department but one would suspect the measures are a knee-jerk reaction to the recent exposure of corrupt immigration officers that came to light during the Bangkok bombing investigation.
No reports have emerged so far of any changes at the Malaysian or Laos border crossing checkpoints and it is business as usual at all international airports.
Would greatly appreciate any recommnedations for getting a suit stiched. There are so many shops around but would be nice to go to one that is credible. I have about 9 days more in Thailand and hope that that will be enough to get one stiched.
Thanks!

Thanks!
There are hundreds of custom tailors throughout Bangkok, but the Monte Carlo Tailors and Narin Couture are two custom tailors that are highly rated:
Monte Carlo Tailors http://www.mctailor.com/.
Narin Couture http://www.narin-couture.com/home.html.
Many years ago, I made the mistake of buying several "custom" suits in Bangkok. I should of known better when the tailor shop's "high pressure" sales pitch made me feel like I was buying a used car. After I got home, buttons began to fall off; stitching began to unravel; fabric began to sag; etc. It was one of the most expensive and disappointing experience that I've had in Bangkok, but the blame was all on me. I wanted cheap; and I got cheap.

Thanks!
"Tailor on Ten" also comes highly recommended. http://www.tailoronten.com/. They are actually not on Sukhumvit Soi 10, but at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 8.
It takes about 5 days to get your suit ready and the quality is really top, but don't expect "cheap" here. Their shirts are also very nice, with mother of pearl buttons and stitched monogram if you wish.

Thanks!
9 days is more than enough to get several custom made suits.
Had a couple handmade last year at Empire (http://www.theempiretailors.com/location.php) and Narin (http://narin-couture.com/home.html), my wife and colleagues said I looked younger!

Thanks!
I've gone to and recommended Raja's Fashion at Nana Plaza for years. http://www.rajasfashions.com/ and also on tripadvisor. First suit has served me well for over 10 years, and have had several more since then. Shirts fit great, but I find his collars a little stiff. Bobby is manager / owner and is an international example of excellent customer service, greeting you with cold beer or gin and tonic while you pick style and material. Probably not the cheapest suit in Bangkok, but well worth it. He suggests 7 days for suit, but can turn it around in 3-4 if necessary. They used to be right at entrance of Nana Plaza (big plus, you could sneak out back door) but moved to exit of Nana BTS, sharing space with On 8 Hotel.
