Good work Ricker. Keep it up. J.G.
I'll second that. Ricker, I'm looking forward to the follow-up report that you promised us. Also, I have a few questions about Cali that are not really "on-topic" for this board. Would you mind answering these via e-mail? Please contact me at: username at hotmail. Thanks. It is hard to find travel information about Colombia. I noticed Lonely Planet hasn't updated their Colombia guidebook since 1995!
OK, the name of the hotel I use is Hotel Casa del Portal.
I've never made a reservation, I just show up but their mumber is 660-3393 or 660-3395. located at Ave 6A No. 28N-23, tell the taxista it's near Chippi-Chappe.
Cost per night is 90,000 / about $36 US incl the tax ... they asked at first for 110,000 but just negotiate for 15 seconds and they'll lower the rate.
Hotel room is nice - big bed, hot water, AC ... only a safe at the front desk though. I like the place ... close to everything I like and really nice people working there ... they are happy you're there.
As for the agency I was introduced to ... the name is: All Colombian Girls ... owner is Ricardo Pedroza ... his secretary Iveth speaks pretty good english.
located Ave 8 Norte, No. 24N-30 .... telephone 667-8514.

Buenas suerte ... i'll be there again soon ... I love Cali!
I'll be in Cali the last week of the December and was wondering if any other Mongers will be... My idea is to perhaps have a, er, um, little group action... It should be the "Feria" there then and there will be lots of calenas (local Cali chicks) around.
For the purpose of such an event my thought is to go to a few of the "clubs", make the selection,, etc. I've read over the series of threads in this group and I just see that the Crystal Club is the best. Which other clubs are there that my WSG brothers might recommend (if that is indeed what they recommend)?
-Looks like there is that "Flores Frescas" (what's that, though?) and then there is the website for the Kaliente Club www.kaliente.com (some guys say it was nice).
-There is also this other site/club http://www.amigascali.1hwy.com/photo.html. (funny thing is that Platnym Argentina has far better looking pics but I know that in Cali there are hot looking calenas - not all their pics get on these sites...)
-I read in one earlier email that in the "Escocia" club one can get a lady for $35/hr with an exit fee of $20 - but once out the door of course it is likely all negotiable (ie: for an overnighter...)
Anyone game who might be there then? Oh, I speak Spanish quite well, nearly fluently. I'm in good physical shape, look reasonably good, and with my appearance I can fit in the background and not seem like an overt American, so I'll also be there for finding regular ladies for LTR and/or STR purposes but I have no illusions of bringing them to any such group event....
I do not have time to get that "Two Gringos Guide to Meeting Colombian Women" but I do wonder what the highlights are, redbull2372? Looks like one ought to spend time just walking up and down in the ChippiChappe Mall which is purportedly a nice meet market, for our purposes... going to the bars in the area of La Sexta (Av 6a) appears to be another good thing and it is supposedly better to do that with a few savvy guys.
Note starting on the 20th there will be a beauty contest for "Miss Feria" (see article titled "Las comunas muestran su belleza"
http://elpais-cali.terra.com.co/HOY/MTR/C212N2.html#)
Cali accommodation
Hotel usually charge extra when for visitors (the so-called "adicional"). I remember the Aristi hotel only did so for nightly visits, not for daytime visits. All the same, here's a tip regarding accommodation if you're looking for an alternative to hotels (although, I must say, it is two and a half years since I was in Cali).
If they are still operating, these two places are worth a try:
1) Apart Hotel Monte Carlo. This is situated in the Versailles district, a five minute's walk from the Avenida Sexta. Very close to the Amex office. It also has a middle-sized supermarket nearby. "Apart Hotel Monte Carlo in Versailles, cerca del almacén Olímpica" should get you there in a cab. (Olímpica is the supermarket's name). The area gets a little bit deserted after nightfall, which means walking is not safe, not even to the nearby Sexta. By the way, this place is very close to Flores Frescas (a ten minutes' walk, again if walking were an option). Prices, say like Aristi, but better value for money.
2) Edifício Los Cerros. This is situated on the other side of the Sexta, at the foot of the hill (="cerro") where you see the crosses on top ("las tres cruces"). Also a five minutes' walk to the Sexta, but don't try it after dark either.
I don't have any phone numbers.
Small tip about girls : the El Pais newspaper has a column with call-girl agencies (Classificados --> Otras Profesionales). I used their services dozens of time, and I was seldom disappointed. I remember getting good service from a pimp who went by the name of David in the ads.
Other tip about introduction agencies : I registered in one of them five years ago (Latin Best, I think, in the La Flora district). I paid 500 dollars up front for life membership. When I turned up one and a half year later though, I was told that "the rules have changed" and that I would have to contribute again if I wished to have meetings arranged. A scam. Paying on a short-term basis is certainly better, or maybe forgetting about introduction agencies altogether.
Thanks for those tips.
In the last week of December in Cali they will have an absolutely wild Feria - the salsa equivalent of Rio's carnaval, parades & parties till dawn. (check out www.caliescali.com and follow the link to the Feria) Cali is the salsa capital of the world and it will be one big party town! Would be fun to set up some kind of group thang w/WSG bros but I know it'll be fun in any case.

Feria de Cali
I was there once during the Feria, then I decided it was best to avoid that time of the year.
The Feria de Cali is not a popular street festival like in Brazil. What happens is that salsa groups from all Latin America give concerts in soccer stadiums. Even salsa lovers are sometimes reluctant to go to those concerts because of the big crowds and possible rowdiness.
Many people come to Cali just for the Feria so the town tends to get very full and accommodation may get scarce. Even call-girls get more business (I remember calling an agency once during the Feria and being told they'd run out of chicas because they'd sent eight to the Intercontinental hotel). Another nuisance I remember is that it was difficult to get from one side of town to the other (from the Northern part to the Southern part) because some connecting roads were blocked on account of a parade.
Cokeheads should also beware because I was told the police keeps a more watchful eye on foreign visitors during the Feria than at other times.
Right after the Feria, around New Year, everything gets quiet, too quiet in fact. Many chicas go away to visit relatives and there isn't much action on the night life circuit.
Don't let this discourage you, however, it is mainly a matter of taste : I avoid the Feria in Cali as well as Carnival in Brazil but some people seek out such events on account of the special atmosphere.
Greetings to the Gentlemen of this forum and Happy Holidays!
I am making my first trip to Cali in January. Of course I am going there for the beautiful girls, but also want to learn Spanish.
I have doing research on the web but the only reputable thing I have found for a Intensive Spanish Course in Cali is Berlitz which is quite expensive ( US$31/hour for private lessons). Does anyone know of a really good Spanish language school in Cali besides Berlitz? Much obliged for any assistance.
Hi rcrusoe!
You'll find Colombian women with college degrees who will be delighted to give you private tuition for half (or a third of) that price!
You might advertise in EL PAIS.
E.g. : "Caballero norteamericano busca cursos privados de español etc."
I think you can pay the ad on line, only I don't know whether they have a securitised server for credit card transactions.
Just got back from Cali again ... I'll tell you, it gets better everytime I go. I'm sure it's because I'm making new contacts each time and making friends.
For the PFP scene, a colombian guy showed me a good place for a daytime session. It's called "clinica ... " address is:
Ave 2 norte , #23N 37.
A lot of upper class type guys in there drinking and talking and from 15 to 25 girls that come out and introduce themselves.
The price incredibly is only 30,000 pesos for an hour, about $12.
Nice girls, clean rooms, not elegant but nice and appreciative.
I tipped 10,000 pesos and the girl was very very happy.
Spent most of my time meeting real girls. First night met 2 girls from Medellin in Cali for the fiesta, absolutely stunning. Me and a colombian friend went dancing with them till 5 AM. I can't really dance salsa but just kind of went with the flow. After a few beers noone cares. I will learn this salsa though because all the girls love it.
Then I met this Calena in a bar where you sit and listen to music and watch MTV on big screen TVs. This girl is the sweetest girl i've ever met and i spent the rest of my time with her. Went dancing, drinking and even christmas carolling with her.
Matter of fact I'm going back to Cali on the 30th to spend new years with her and her family.
I almost did the marriage agency thing, which I think can be good if you do the pay by week thing ... but i think if you can meet some of the locals, like guys that work in the clubs or hotels, they'll introduce you to friends and their friends and so forth ... takes some time and luck though.
Anyway, good luck, hapy holidays and enjoy Cali ... I love that place.
Hello Ricker
I am glad that you enjoyed your time in Locombia.
Question: From the sound of your post it seems that you felt safe during your stay. Would that be an accurate statement?
XXL,

I am curious if such an advertisement could attract the wrong type of attention and cause bad guys to string me up in the junngle for ransome. I'd love to learn Spanish with all the extracurricular that are possible too, but postings from summer would recommend low profiles. I have caught the grist of recent postings and the reasonable safety of Columbia as contrasted to mid-year, but if it is safe to advertise identity and contact info as N. American then call me Columbian!

OK, you might leave the "norteamericano" part out. You might go for "extranjero" (foreigner) instead.
A good idea would be to publish a cellular phone number in the ad and meet the girls first at some neutral location in town.
After all, if you register in an agency like so many Americans do in Cali, you will meet girls who will know who you are and even know your social status and address in Columbia and in the US. Some of these girls might have guerrilla ties too, if you think along these lines.
I don't see why an ad in the main city newspaper carries a greater risk than other pursuits mongers usually engage in while in Cali.
I went to that place named la Clinica this week (actually twice), and think that it is a great place. The address is calle 2 Norte #23N37. The place is clean, well maintained, and the women are numerous (up to about 20) and all decent person as far as I can tell. When one comes in, all women will be called out and will shake your hand telleing you her name. You then say which one you want to the doorman. You then pay $25 000 pesos (less than $10) and you then have an half hour with the lady that performs extremely well her duties. I tipped the girl $5 000 pesos and each were happy. I'd recomend that place to anyone to keep the prices low. When people pay high prices for sex, they end up destroying the entire industry with inflationary pressures. Enjoy!
Anybody else heading out to Cali during the last week of April?
