I asked some girls in HK for a BJ only, But they would only do it for $10 less $50. This still seemed a bit high so decided to pass. The only good thing is that they were not asking $80 min.

Hey all,
I'm going to take the plunge this Sept. For my birthday. It'll be the first time in Tijuana and first time outside the US. I've done some reading on the reports here and wanted to ask a few quick questions.
1. What is a good hotel to stay at in Tijuana? How much will it cost per night? I'll be arriving in San Diego but going to spend the nights in Tijuana. Looking for something in the middle of the action where I can take the girls back.
2. Exchange USD to Pesos in Tijuana or in the US? I'm not sure if I should carry mostly USD to Tijuana then work it out from there or do it beforehand if the exchange rate is worse there (like using an ATM in the strip club).
Any help is appreciated. If anyone is also going to be there around that time, let me know!
Thanks

Thanks
If this is your first time outside of the US, you might want to stay at a hotel in San Ysidro, USA, just next to the border. You can walk across the border, get a cab, and come back. Most of the action in Tijuana, especially for a newbie, happens in the hotels connected to the bar you are in. The SW's have their own hotels, also. There are 3 inexpensive hotels within walking distance to the border.
You do not have to exchange USD to Pesos "at all" if you don't want to. The reason you would, is to save a couple dollars. Again, for a newbie, KISS is always recommended. If you are going to do it, you will usually do better on the Tijuana side.
Look forward to your report.

Thanks
I'm going to be in Tijuana the last weekend of Septemeber Thursday through Sunday Let me know if you are going to be there that weekend and we can meet up. You sound like me 6 months ago. I made my first ever monger trip and my first trip outside of the US over Thanksgiving weekend last year. Do you know how to get from the airport to the border, it is real easy here is some information to help you, San Diego public transit at http://www.sdcommute.com/TripPlanner/index.asp http://transit.511sd.com/PDFs/TrolleyTimetables.pdf Getting to Tijuana from the San Diego airport is really easy the airport itself is small and slow compared to the ones I am used to. There are two terminals terminal one and two. Most flights come in and out of terminal two. Once you exit the baggage claim from either terminal walk to your left a short distance and you will see a bus stop. Wait for the 992 bus which will take you to the trolley tell the driver you want a day pass which will cost you $5 this will allow you on the bus and the trolley. Many of the trolley stations seem to be under construction and my suggestion and the one I always used is the city college stop on 11th ave. And Broadway. Once you exit the bus on the side of the street that you exit there will be a building walk to the other side of the building and there will be the trolley stop take the blue line to San Yasidro the trolley itself is actually red but it will say San Yasidro at the front of the trolley. The trolley seems to work on some kind of honor system as there are no turnstiles that you have to put your ticket in to get access and no conductor ever came and asked for the ticket but be sure to buy your day pass from the bus driver just to be sure. The trolley will drop you right at the border. Once you exit the trolley if you stand facing south on your right hand side you will see a pedestrian bridge cross over it and turn to your left follow the sidewalk around go through the two turnstyles get in a cab and tell him Hong Kong club.
Be prepared for your jaw to drop and your eyes to fall out of your head when you walk into the Hong Kong club and see the quality of women that are available there.
I always stay on Tijuana side right in the zone. If you are going to be a high volume user of HK girls and street girls you will probably want to stay at the Cascades it is the hotel the HK girls use when they take a customer up. If your not staying there it will cost you an extra $15 for the half hour. Here is a link to the hotel and a youtube video someone shot at the hotel. http://hotelcascadas.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9WOxu078aY The place isn't bad, a little more rustic than appears in the video but not bad I always book the standard single ok room looks just like the youtube video, they don't come and clean the room on a daily bases but will if you ask them and tip them. There are no safes in the standard room but I always felt pretty safe staying there and never had any problems. If you are a light sleeper however you may not like it as there is 24/7 noise coming up from the bar below. Another place to stay on the Tijuana side is the hotel Ticuan many on here like it http://hotelticuan.com/ I belive you can get a room there for around $50 or $60 easy walking distance to the zone durring the day but you would want to cab it at night. I have never stayed there but a buddy of mine did and I took a look at his standard room and it was pretty nice.
As far as exchanging money there will be cambios in the zone you can do it there. Dollars are readily accepted and for the most part I did not notice much of a savings from converting almost all of the bar girls know what the conversion is and will adjust thier rates accordingly I only found with about 1/3 of the street girls was it a savings as they would use the old 10 to 1 conversion but about 2/3 of the street girls would adjust their rates to the current exchange rate.
Hope this helps, be prepared for the kid in a candy store reaction. I went crazy my first time there in a three and a half day period I slept with nearly 20 women.
2. Exchange USD to Pesos in Tijuana or in the US?
Unless you are really good with math I would forget about pesos and just use $US. You will have enough other things to deal with.
If a chica says $60 or 700 pesos, which do you choose? Does it save you enough money to make it worthwhile? If you change too much money and have to convert back that will cost you, too.
If a chica says $60 or 700 pesos, which do you choose? Does it save you enough money to make it worthwhile?
Neither. You counter with 600 pesos and stick to it. You've either saved $10 or $18. Does that make it worthwhile? Does between 3 and 6 free beers, depending on where you're drinking, make it worthwhile?

Does between 3 and 6 free beers, depending on where you're drinking, make it worthwhile?
It is just my opinion and I think that a first timer is in a very different position than a very experienced visitor like you. Unless he is good with math he will not be able to do that calculation quickly to know what his savings would be (and the savings will differ with the going exchange rate which changes constantly even between the afternoon and evening). Also, being a first timer he may be less inclined to bargain and / or walk away from a hotty that catches his fancy.
Having different points of view are valuable to Kooloo (and others in a similar position) so hopefully he can determine what he is comfortable with and how important it is to save some money on his trip.
Hit Tijuana this weekend and I can not wait for summer, I don't like having to take a jacket along. Every chica was cursing the cold when we'd go out of the club to go upstairs to the hotels, can't wait for summer.
Did not see one of my favoritas, a couple have taken extended time off from Easter, and one sent me an email saying she was going back home for six months, and that REALLY bummed me out.
There were a number of chicas I saw at HK and AB that I had done before so I repeated, not quite GFE but better than average experiences. I tried a couple of new chicas I have not seen before, one at HK was a nice choice and another at AB was a disaster. (I take responsibility for not vetting her better) , oh well, sometimes you got to gamble with the new ones when the favoritas are MIA.

I would certainly agree with Ath Trainer's advice. I was just in Tijuana this weekend and just happened to have a lenghty conversation with a newbie (not from this board, just a guy out on business to SD who came down to Tijuana on his own for the first time). We chatted at the bar over beers, and gave him a few pointers, but he did not know about this board, so you are already ahead of the game by reading about it first.
I have mongered in many different countries, and when you are there you jump in with both feet, language / culture / etc, at least with Tijuana you have the benefit of sticking your toe in first, and have the opportunity to go back to the US at night to stay in a US hotel.
There are several places that others have listed here as good options if you want to stay in Tijuana, and plenty of guys with little or no spanish can have fun in the Zona.

Chris
Very detailed advice. Thanks.
I really appreciate you and others helping out. Right now I'm thinking Sept 19-23 since my birthday is that weekend. I graduated college not too long ago so I'm used to long nights and all kinds of noise levels. I actually love lively places that always has something going on so Tijuana will be a good fit.
I'm extremely low maintenance so it'll probably end up whatever is most cost effective. Just need a mattress somewhere I can pass out on after a long night.
Just waiting for a good time to get my ticket and I'm ready (hopefully)!

It's best not to overcomplicate things. It's also best not to overthink the situation.
If one changes one's money up front, then all one has to work with is pesos. No need to try to figure exchange rates. You have pesos, you'll only spend pesos, and if the girl doesn't like it she can go pound sand. Let the bars worry about exchange rates. As far as you, the customer, are concerned, you're going to figure 10:1 when it comes to girls.
So, the newbie has a bit more power in the transaction. He knows that $60/600MXN has been the going rate for ages. He can spend more, or less, as he chooses. But I'm all for giving the customer the most power in these transactions, and I hate to see newbies fleeced.
As you said, he can work out what's best for him. Having a good time is what's important. $10, one way or another, isn't going to make a hill of beans.
If you head to mexico and are not fluent in spanish just put a sign around your neck that says " OVERCHARGE ME " Everything in tijuana will be overprice (taxis, food, women, drinks, etc) if you don't speak the language or don't look local. The zona is pricey and yes they got hot girls but are hardened professionals who are mechanical in bed or just rushing to get it overwith. My best advice is to avoid mexico, the state department is right, and save your money for south america or asia. One good thing about tijuana is the crime is over rated. Daytime is pretty safe to walk around and even the night time is kind of ok to walk around. I was solo in tijuana and walked around day or night and never had any problems. But you don't want to dress nice (jeans tshirt) and late night it is probably better to take a cab to your hotel room.
My best advice is to avoid mexico, the state department is right, and save your money for south america or asia.
If you have plenty of time and money this is good advice but it doesn't take into account the cost of travel to South America or Asia if you live in the US especially if you are within driving distance of Tijuana. The biggest ripoff I can think of (not counting scams that your common sense should help you avoid) would be paying the $100 that some chicas in HK ask when you should not spend more than $60 (or less if using pesos). That $40 "loss" is very small compared to the hundreds or thousand dollars difference in cost to get to Tijuana versus those distant mongering locals. Overpaying for taxis, drinks, etc. Would add to your loss but not significantly.
The odds of getting poor,"mechanical" sex in Tijuana for someone who does not speak Spanish is much higher than in South America or Asia but there are no guarantees anywhere.
My advice would be to do your research so you know what the going rates are and avoid overpaying wherever you go.
Member 2738: I see from your reports in other threads that you had some bad experiences in TJ. I am sorry to hear that. I hope that you don't give up and that you can experience some of the great chicas that be found in the zona.
