Are id cards very common ? Do the most girls have them ?
i think a lot of people on this forum misunderstand what some of the more experienced contributers have to say/warn.
someone left a message in another area that we are trying to warn people girls aren't friendly and things are looking bad or some nonsense.
i don't know how else to make the point but this: if you come to my hometown, there are a lot of easy women if you know how to talk to them, find them, and make them trust you. if you go to coastal kenya, things aren't any different.
know where you're going, have a clean heart, look for a good time, don't be stupid, and trust your wits, and you'll be fine. in other words, learn about kenya, learn some swahili, be able to blend in and get into the fabric of the place, and you'll never leave.
try to find heaven with high speed internet and a/c and you're not being realistic.
and i'm sorry to say that.
if you don't know what you're dealing with, it can suck, i'm sure. realism is not pessimism.
Leave your money in the hotel safe at the front desk. Its a safe as houses. Left thousands of euros there, in cash, no problem.
I will travel to mombasa in January and I want to stay at the Indiana Appartments (opposite to the Bamburi Beach Hotel). Now I heard that there are problems with their in-room safes. Sometimes should "disappear" belongings like money from the safe. Has anybody experience with that appartments?
yesterday morning , on my way back from zanzibar ( see separate report ) i picked up a daily nation at the airport and was shocked to read that a german ( didn't say whether he's a tourist or a resident ) was in a msa court sometimes last week , standing accused of having had sex with an **** girl plus being in posession of pornographic material . his case was held over till mid jan and it seems the court allowed him to post bail plus deposit his passport with them.
seems the kenya tourist police's job goes beyond protecting tourists from local hoodlums ; i expect i will get some background info from some of my local "girlfriends" over the next few days .
in any case , prudence dictates that you should always ask to see her id before you commit to anything . be smart and safe !

Before I go back home for a few months (Thanksgiving with the kids in TX, then back to Canada to catch a flight to Cuba, then Christmas and New Year at Mont Tremblant with toute la famille, hopefully shovelling lots of snow, before heading back to Kenya sometimes in Feb) I thought you might be interested in my observations and experiences over the last 5 months:
I’ve made a pretty large number of conquests during this time, mostly by sitting under the makuti roof at Big Tree around noon and watching the "parade". Sometimes I changed location to either the beach bar at Il Covo or at the Mombasa Beach Hotel, but I prefer the overall ambience at Big Tree.
-Most girls on the beach beat don’t seem to last long (you see new faces all the time). I understand that, after getting the hang of it on the beach, they "graduate" to become Tembo Girls (I. E. Night time only – where the real money is I suppose). They are all recent arrivals from upcountry (mainly Kikuyu, Luo, some Turkana, Taita, Kamba, Somali); I have not met a single local girl, I. E Giriama or Digo
-They are mostly in their (very) early 20’s and quite "green" but eager to learn
-Many are single moms and have a kid back home to provide for
-Most graduated from High School but didn’t have the money to continue to Varsity or a Vocational College. Inspite of all the odds against them, they are determined to ultimately better themselves. (Bravo! ) Their short-term game plan is to make as much mullah as they can by prostituting themselves for a little while. And maybe meet Mr Right in the process and be taken to Europe or the US (You can dream, can’t you? )
-Physically they are mostly slim and trim with a prominent behind but (sadly) mostly sagging tits. However, I much prefer the natural state over all the saline and silicone back home.
-In the sack most of them show their inexperience: they like to DFK, and some get quite aggressive over time (I had a few repeats), but only a minority know how to administer a proper BJ. Most need some serious coaching in that dept. And some even refuse it outright as being "yacky"! They all seem to really like mish and doggie, and many give as good as they take. Greek is a definite "no, no, never" for all but a tiny minority.
-On the plus side: almost all insist in always using a condom, many even for BJ! (I have had many more offers of BBFS in North America and Europe than in Kenya)
That's all I can think of right now + hope that my random observations are of some help in sensitizing newcomers to the local scene.

Is it not possible to rent a private girlfriendly condominium in the northern
area; like near the nakumatt ?
I used the searching machines; nothing. Only these ridicolous expensive
beach resorts. Thx for any tip.
Is anyone aware of bicycle rentals for daily or weekly around Bamburi? Seems like a good way to tour around in the day and learn the areas.
Is it not possible to rent a private girlfriendly condominium in the northern area; like near the nakumatt ?
There are apartments to rent on or near the beach. Going rent for one a friend of mine has is KSH 30,000 per month, although this is a long term price, includes water and electricity; a bunch of hookers hang out near the beach at the bottom of his garden. Apparently they occasionally ask for a drink of water, this translates as "Do you want to fuck me?" ha ha ha. In terms of finding apartments, there are very few advertised on the internet, although a walk down the road near Nakumatt will get a pile of numbers and details you could explore. If you can't get there yourself maybe you could find a helper to help? Could get you some numbers from some girls out there who'd do it for a small fee. PM for more.
Alternative is to book into a hotel like Indiana which rents studio flats (bedroom, kitchen, shower) and will allow ladies in. You can go by the front desk and they'll be asked to provide their ID card, and you may be asked to pay an additional KSH 1000 for the privilige. Alternatively, ask the Askari on the side gate ( for "mlangu nyuma") and a few bob he will let you pass. Always tell them you are going for a cup of tea! Anyway a couple of days there exploring you should be able to find a place to rent. Indiania is $70 US per night for the studio.
....if anyone wants to hook up for a drink.
Just joined, after reading through a lot of the posts and looking at some of the pics, have decided to spend a month in mombasa towards the end of the low season, next year.
Gotta be honest, with all this info here, I've lost the plot a bit.
Can anyone recommend, somewhere cheap to stay, I'm on a tight budget, how much will a girl friendly place near the beach, with hotwater and safety deposit boxes cost me. I feel A/C is not important, is this wise, thanks in advance for any help. Gav.
If you are on a tight budget then forget the beach.
Try Hotel Georgias in Mtwapa. 1000/night. gf. Little Chef, which is a cheap and good african restaurant, is nearby.
If you want hot water and safety deposit boxes then that means you arn't so low budget. Places like that in low season would be around 3k/night minimum i guess.

... I asked a hotel in Mombasa if they allowed overnight guests via email and the answer in writing was a straight "No". When I arrived it was explained to me by the madam that I was allowed girlfriends in my room, they just have to be registered at the desk when you bring them, no extra charge. When I protested "I can't beieve you are saying this (in front of a rather sexy receptionist), got a broad smile and told "This is Mombasa". They are just being discreet until they see you face to face....
Hi Kampala, which hotel in Mombasa would that be? What did you pay? I'm going there for New Year and haven't booked anything yet.
I posted this in the Nairobi forum a while ago (because the original post was there), which maybe was a mistake, cause I realize now you've missed it. Tried to PM you but couldn't get through... I really would appreciate the hotel information.
Cheers,
Barri
A lot of hotels wait for you. But the prices are crazy for africa. More than more in the last years. For normal standard on the beach 50 Euro+
I take all (last) time the fontana hotel. No probs with the girls. You pay 30 Euro for the the room per night (allone or together with the lady) its with a breakfest for 2. And you can share the girls with your neighbor.

Plaese do not go to this hotel. The owner (woman) is bad woman, she play with prices from day to day.
