1. Always use ATM's during daylight Banking Hours (9am - 4pm; M-F)
2. Only use ATM's that are "Attached" to a Bank Branch (NO "Free-standing" Machines)
3. Use recognized names like: Scotia Bank, Banco Popular, Banc Reservas
4. In tourist areas (Sosua, Boca Chica, Punta Cana), always make sure that you see an armed Watchee Man (and that he sees you too)
5. Withdraw the Maximum Transaction Amount (generally RD$10,000+) to avoid excessive transaction fees
6. Avoid using ATM's on Weekends and on DR Holidays, because of higher rates, less available cash, and the higher chance of machine tampering
7. Be very aware of your surroundings and keep transaction time to a minimum (1 minute)
8. If you have the time, just walk-in and conduct your transaction with a bank teller. With a teller, you can specify the peso denominations (much better than getting stuck with 5 RD$2,000 notes)

That is very good advice and would like to advise to stay away from $2,000RD notes, unless you are purchasing a vehicle or large ticket item. They are very difficult to change and many dominicans will state they don't have change.

They are almost not even legal tender notes, and basically can only be changed at casinos/larger clubs or inside the bank, just don't accept them!

Them 2,000 pesos bills are nothing but trouble. Worst part is after a few Brugals and Presidentes they start to look like a 200 pesos bill.

I'm flying in to Santo Domingo. Any recommendations on good ways to get to Sosua from there?
Also, are there any places to buy reliable and cheap cialis/apcalis?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.
Named brand Cialis is about 300 pesos per pill. There is a pharmacy on the second floor of the airport in Santo Domingo. There are many pharmacies throughout the island, some open 24 hours per day, no prescription necessary. Just about every pharmacy sells cialis, no problem.
Generic cialis is, "la pela", cost 50-60 pesos per pill. I don't know what apcalis is. Caribe tours has an online schedule, they go to Sosua from Santo Domingo. Metro bus too, other members, can give you more details.

No word on your arrival time.
Time permitting, the best way is to get a taxi to the nearest Caribe Tours bus station and buy a ticket to Sosua.
Cheap, a quick view of DR from the window, and typically air-conditioned comfort. (Maybe meet a friend as well).
Any pharmacia sells La Pela, - generic Cialis.

Hm Hw,
Yanqui69 has already advised the best way for you to get to Sosua BUT be aware sometimes you have to change buses in Santiago. Check with the driver when you get to Santiago.

As previously mentioned, take a cab to either Caribe Tours or Metro bus depot. I believe the current taxi rate is $40USD. Both are modern, comfortable, air conditioned buses. Metro is a little quicker because it makes fewer stops. Caribe Tours makes a rest stop in Santiago where you can stretch your legs and grab a quick bite to eat.
Caribe Tours stops on the outskirts of Sosua, Los Charamicos, and you will need to take a five minute taxi ride into town. Metro stops at the gas station on the main highway and you can probably walk to your hotel depending on where you are staying.
Also, are there any places to buy reliable and cheap cialis/apcalis?
Pastillas=pills
un pastilla= 1 pill
dos pastillas= 2 pills
pastillas pronounced something like "pas tea yas".
Tienes Cialis? = Do you have Cialis?
Dame (darme) dos pastillas = give me 2 pills.
The cialis usually comes 4 to a box and they are encased in a plastic enclosure. If you only want one or two pills, the person in the pharmacy will use a scissor to cut the plastic, to give you the amount of pills you desire.
La Pela comes one pill in a soft plastic package. All the pills should be in a plastic enclosure.

Thanks in advance.
Thank you everyone for the prompt and informative responses. My plane arrives too late to catch any of the buses so I'll probably check out the action in SD for a couple of days and then head to Sosua.
Jaosousa: Apcalis is a generic brand of Cialis.

IMHO RD2,000 is overpaying them, so get change!
