I disagree with a few things
It has nothing to do with skin color. It is the type of mentality that goes with the "hip hop" sect. Every moron who feels they don't fit it is wearing a baseball cap to the side claiming thug status.
The hardest to look at are the "white breads" from middle america....man do they look stupid in hip hop gear.
At least past generations of subcultures had reasons to revolt...the hippies in the 60's and the punks in the 70's. They revolted for more or less a political/social reason.
The current status of hip hop is " I am" and you " are not " Where is the love ? Where does it unite against a cause (white or black) It doesn't.
However when it first came out in NYC during the 70's it was a fascinating art form. I used to admire it..afrika bambata,Schooly D,Eric B and Rakim etc.
I travel to get away from american crap. I am so disgusted with what is going on in this country. The last thing I want to see on an island or anywhere else I visit is american "waste"
Also there is a general "code of conduct" when you travel overseas which is "try to fit in" blend with other people and cultures......"meet new people" . I don't think many visitors to sosua understand that nor do they care. Most foreigners look down on americans for that reason. We are so used to other people changing for us or learning our language that we dont accept the same responsibility.
Sorry to rant.
I disagree with you on a few things. I don't think most people look down on Americans. We immigrate more people from all over the world to our country than any country on the planet. If we were look down on so much many would not immigrate here.
Also I think if you don't like America so much maybe you should move to DR or any place you like to than stay in the U.S. and suffer and be miserable because you don't like the way someone dress and think.
Every country has its problems and you can't judge a person by the way they dress. There are people who dress in ways I don't like, but what can you do? Do you want them to dress like you? think like you? Thats whats called America, freedom to speak and dress how you like. Maybe you like more of a socialist country.
Also I disagree with the trying to act Dominican when traveling to Dominican republic. Thats is why they call us Gringo. We should act the way we are instead of trying be someone we are not. Yes we should learn the language and history of the country but not impersonate. When Dominicans come here they don't act American try to learn English, at least the ones I see.
