I think that Waffles is refering to a car and drive not a moto. $25.00 is the going rate for a car and driver in town all day. It's more if you go out of town

Are you ever in Phnom Penh? How do we get in touch with you?
For those who haven't been to PP in a while, there are new Thai style taxi's popping up everywhere. I heard it's a Chinese/Khmer venture. Anyways the last I heard it was 2,000 riel per kilo or something like that metered. Most trips are short so it can be a decent value since some guys pay $3 for tuk tuks trips of 1 or 2 kilos to the riverside etc.

What are current prices for tuk tuk and moto, Last year it was a buck or so for short trips around town during the day and two at night?
If you need an honest (English speaking) tuk tuk and moto driver here is the guy I used. I had him for three days, going to all the tourest locations during the day and the bars at night. It was my 1st time in pp and he really made things a lot easier.

http://holatravelcambodia.com in PP ( Sisowath Quay, on the Riverfront) , its manager is pretty fluent in spanish ( has been studying in Cuba ) and has good package tours.
I'll vouch for Saran also, he made my stay very comfortable. Watched out for me really well and took me to many great places. Remember to tell him "you hate him and you hope he dies" he will love to hear it. Just an inside joke is all.
Hi!
I just returned from my trip to Cambodia and I want to thank you guys for recommending Saran. The key to phonm penh is a good realiable driver. There is no way a newbie, (like I was), could unlock the secrets of this place without one. His english is good.
Please contact me by PM for his telephone number and email address.
Hi,
I am going to be visiting Thailand from 21 Dec'09 to 2 Jan'10, and during this time, I would like to make a short visit to Cambodia for between 4-5days, to see the major sites such as Ankor what etc
I have never been to Cambodia, and not sure how I would fare on my own in Cambodia. I understand it is nothing like Thailand etc etc
Can anyone please give me pointers as to how best to plan such a trip? I am going to Pattaya firts and ideally wish to plan a trip from there.
Any advise received is greatly appreciated, and I hope to meet up any members visiting Cambodia at the same time. Drinks are on me!
Thanks,
Max
If visiting Phnom Penh I'd give Saran a call or email. He's a good guy that can show you the ropes and help you get to know your surroundings. He helped me a great deal with my first trip.

max - take my word for it and FLY INTO SIEM RIEP. The bus or train from BKK takes all day and you need to start from BKK (or maybe Chantaburi by bus and go up thru Sakaeo to POIPET and then on into Siem Riep by taxi), You get to Poipet about 2 or so and then into SR about 6 or so. About 4 is the best you can expect after leaving BKK at maybe 5am or so
To FLY costs a bit more (QUITE A BIT MORE 5x or 6X) but it's about 1 hour in the air and you don't have to deal with the "visa mafia" at Poipet and the taxi mafia to get out of Poipet. It's "difficult" even if you speak Thai once you get beyond the border. Go read "Cambodia overland" traveller's reports in "Talesofasia.com". it's ALL TRUE (I can't vouch for the last 4 months or so but it was essentially correct before since I wrote a couple of the reports myself.)
IF you insist on going overland, do the electronic visa $25 (take a passport picture with you - you will need it when you cross the border). It's just so much easier, though to FLY unless you want to spend the time and watch the scenery (and the red clay dust roostertails)
Enjoy Angkor Wat if you get there. take lots of pictures, carry extra batteries. $20 1 day; $40 3 days, $60 a whole week 7 days 3 was enough for me. It rained every day in the evening but that was June. Floods in the streets
Companionship is quite a bit dearer in SR than in PP (2x to 4X even for the lower grade)
Saying Cambodia is nothing like Thailand is like saying that England is nothing like India. Even though they share a border, the differences are almost as profound as England/India. Khmer are nice people but DIRT POOR
Chok Dee!
Is the driver Sovan Mee still operating? He has helped me and a friend in the past and I would like to get in touch with him for a possible future trip. I highly recommend his service!

Read the Phnom Penh thread, Sovann Mey is away and will most likely be unavailable for the next 5 to 10 years if not more.
Are these the same guys or different guys?
Some people seem to be referring to this guy/s as one person though the spelling of their names are different.
