Early morning might be tough to find, most bars have restricted operating times.
Every 4-5 Star hotel I know of has a rooftop outdoor pool, the climate is perfect for it!

By outdoor swimming pool, I meant perhaps a full size pool. Otherwise, my hotel DOES have a roof-top swimming pool and it is okay and fun but I want to do better.
For sports bar, I meant one where we could watch S*nd*y night *oo*b*ll, or c*ll*ge *ask*tb*ll…. That would be six to nine a.m. in Dubai. …. Don’t tell me none would be interested.

The contact telephone numbers of the Sports Bars are listed on the Time Out Dubai website, it may be worth phoning around and asking. Demand may be here but it will clash with work commitments for most expat residents. I think it would be safe to assume if one did open it would be coffee and not beer on sale.

The gym itself is also great. Two added bonuses: many of the Emirates Airlines girls use the gym and pool, plus it's next to Irish Village.

They are still negotiating with the government about a new site.

Greetings

It likley that the UAE will drop the currency peg to the dollar very soon. Currently some exchange establishments are anticipating this, probably because that do not want to get caught with too many dollars if the change is made. If changing dollars it pays to shop around at the moment.
Here is the lowdown from The Gulf News.
Exchange rates spark confusion

Dubai: Arbitrary dirham rates offered by UAE money changers, in some cases as low as Dh3.05 per dollar or almost 17 per cent lower than the official rate, are sowing more confusion in the market where speculation on the dirham's revaluation is already rampant.
The UAE currency has been pegged at 3.6725 to the dollar since 1997 and until Sunday there was no change in the official peg.
UAE Central Bank Governor Sultan Bin Nasser Al Suwaidi last month spoke about social and economic pressure to give up the dollar peg and to adopt a basket of currencies.

no intention for depegging the gcc currency from dollar
dec 3, 2007 - 08:36 -
wam wam doha, dec. 3, 2007 (wam) -- sheikh abdullah bin zayed, the uae's foreign minister, hailed the speech of hamad bin khalifa al thani, amir of qatar at the opening session of the 28th gcc summit in doha.
in a statement on the sideline of the summit, sheikh abdullah described the speech of the amir as significant, specially his call for concern about scientific research.
sheikh abdullah said there is no intention in this summit to depeg the gcc currency from the dollar, stressing that reviewing the relation between the uae dirham and us dollar will be decided in coordination with gcc members.
wam/mus/mab
it would seem to be a move to quell the rampant speculation in the currency markets. this morning hsbc was only buying dollars at 3.20aed, just checked their website and it's back up to 3.60, almost back to uae central bank rate of 3.67.
i think any immediate revaluation unilaterally by the uae is now off after sheikh abdulla's statement. they won't make a move until the rest of the gcc do. and depegging from the dollar does seem completely off the agenda.

A clarification and there is a possibility of a refund if you were caught out. From Todays Gulf News
By Ahmed A. Elewa, Staff Reporter

Abu Dhabi: The UAE Central Bank on Monday directed money exchange houses to refund to their clients any differences arising from purchasing US dollars at rates outside the official band on the weekend
Full report
http://www.gulfnews.com/business/Banking_and_Finance/10172264.html
Legit business´ will refund you the difference, as they are going to get it back.
I proved this today, when I was given my 30 (excess) Dirhams back (sans ticket!)
The Emiratis I know were very upset with speculators possibly harming the rep of DXB, I mean they were really ticked off. Hat´s off to the quick action by the Govt./Central bank.
In the end, it looks like the exchange houses will take it in the shorts.
Rumors, dangerous things.
