Bamburi beach report - Practical infomation
I've returned from my first ever visit to Kenya, where I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I only stayed at Bamburi, and first I'm going to report on the costs and other practical matters that I found.
Hotels: The Kenya Bay Hotel charged 3706 ksh per night, including breakfast and High Tea. However, they would charge around 2000 extra if you had a guest stay over!
Next to it is the Kahama Hotel. Only 3150 for a single room including breakfast. If you have an overnight guest, they will charge you 250 only, or you can take her for breakfast, which also costs 250. A more civilised option, I think.
Bamburi Beach Resort charges 3500 per night including breakfast, 3000 if you stay for a while. They've no extra charge if you have a guest sleep over.
The other hotels in that part of the beach were priced a lot higher.
Taxis: I got my hotel to get me a taxi the first night, & I used the same guy every time. He would drive me to wherever, wait a few hours for me to finish then drive me back. He charges 200 from the above hotels to Cheers/Pirates/Big Tree, 600 to Tembo/Bobs/Causarina, 700 to Casablanca & Florida. These are return prices, and he was happy to wait for me. He also charged 1200 to the airport!
The local vans (Matutus?) drive along the main road, and cost 30 from 1 end of Bamburi to the other. They're very frequent, even late at night.
Money: The closeby Barclays bank has a minimum commision of 300, so I found it better to use the exchange places by the Nakumat supermarket. There is a post office close by Barclays.
Malaria: I didn't see, never mind get bit by, a single mozzie. I'm still taking the tablets my doctor gave me though. He chose Doxycycline, rather than a quinine based drug. I was required to get a Yellow Fever certificate as I was flying onwards to Thailand.
Girl costs: My driver said pay between 1000 to no more than 1500 for all night with a girl. I paid 1000 to 2000 for the 7 girls I had. Only 1 girl complained, but she was just trying it on. She still tried to get me to take her every time I saw her afterwards. Fat chance. This is good money for them. My hotel's pool attendent told me his monthly salary is 6000, and he has an unemployed wife and 4 kids to support. The hotel engineer is on 10000 per month.
Food: I found the food quite expensive, not being able to consider the local places. I liked Yul's very much, with excellent grub and an great view of the beach (just like Noddy's view from the Bamburi Beach resort). I was surprised at what a good selection of groceries and essentials was available at the Nakumat supermarket. You can buy most anything there.
Heat: It was hotter than anything Ive experienced in Asia or the Med. Much hotter.
More reports to follow.
I've attached a map for reference.

Bamburi beach report - lasses
I belive that Max (my hero) was right when he said in this forum that most of the girls are available. That's the impression I got. Other than the happily married ladies, I felt nobody was impossible for me to bed if I put in some groundwork.
The girls were all very friendly, and spoke English well. I was also pleasently surprised as to what good conversationalists many were, as compared to the girls in Thailand or China who can't string 2 sentences together.
They are taller and more muscular than I'm used to, and I enjoyed the novelty. I was disapointed that there weren't too many girls with huge baps (I guess West Africa's the place for melons) but was delighted at the huge booties. It seemed even skinny girls were blessed with gorgeous, round backsides. Wonderful to see.
Most of the girls said they didn't want an African man. I don't know if this was bullshit or not, but the reasons they gave were that African men beat them, leave after getting them pregnant, and are lazy. 2 gals said that local men offer no romance. I found out that by "Romance" they meen foreplay. In other words, the local guys are into wham bam thank you ma'm.
The places to pick up girls I liked best in Bamburi were the Tembo disco, Cheers bar, and the beach. I never made it to Causarina or Pirates. I went to Bob's once, but it was mainly couples there, berift of my prey. Walking around anywhere you're going to get a lot of eye contact and inviting smiles.
I also tried the Casablanca and Florida clubs on Mombasa Island, which were heaving with hookers.
I found that in the discos, it didn't require any work to pull the girl of my choice. All that I did was to look at the girl. When she sees you looking, she'll come over. No need for fancy chatup lines or putting in the hours on the dancefloor.
The girls are lovely, sexy as hell and great in the sack. I had the full GFE with every one I took.
I've attached a pic of the Tembo disco which has a 150 entrance charge for the disco area. It is choca full of girls at night, and has a Ladies Night on Fridays. Also a pic of Cheers, a German run pub that always has naughty wenches hanging around.
