FYI, Cusco is at an elevation of around 11300 feet, while most of the Sacred Valley ranges from 6000-8000 feet, and Macchu Picchu itself is at 8200 feet. So really, the place that gives one Altitude Sickness is Cusco itself, not the Inca Trail and surroundings, which is noticeably lower elevation.
I have asthma and as soon as the plane landed and depressurized I had trouble breathing. Walking up the jetway was really hell. I took my medicine and was okay. I never experienced any altitude sickness. I'm used to the 8000 feet in Bogota so I didn't have any problems once outside of Cusco city. I tried some of the tea with my meal while waiting for the train in OllayT just to check it out. The hotels in Cusco city have the tea and the leaves for free. You can get a small plastic bag of the leaves in the grocery store for S/1. They also have coca candy. I bought some of the candy but I still haven't opened the pack. And that has been since January. I never noticed any oxygen in any of the hotels.
By the way, I highly recommend the Boulevard de Los Olivos for a different night out. It's kinda dangerous so bring a wing man and don't get too drunk. I'd also go in a contracted taxi. It's basically a few blocks strip with a handful of discos and lots of young 20 something civilian / provincial/conos girls. The girls I adore. The brichera % is low as these chicks aren't gringo hunting they're just out for a good time. You'll be like the only gringos there. I barely look like a typical gringo but the night I was there I was getting all kinds of glares from some very cute chicks. The big drawback is the war zone you have to traverse to get there. Regardless, my friend and I might hit it up this weekend. PM me if you want to join us.
Yes, I was out there a couple of weeks ago, and there were shots fired. I didn't hear anything, but there were guys throwing rocks and jumping on a car while it was trying to drive away...
I've been to boulevard a few times over the years, and that's the first time I've seen anything like that.
Agreed that many of them are just looking to have a good time out with friends dancing. It's also a good time for the gringos as well, provided they act right. There are working girls in the area (gals working the hostal area), just not there on the Blvd.
Another good strip (albeit much smaller) is in Barranco. I don't know the name of it off the top of my head, but it's literally a stone's throw from the Estacion Municipalidad (Lima Metro bus) on Bolognesi. Dance all night, grab a bite to eat in the park, make out near the Puente of Suspiros...
Which Airline to take for Lima<==>Cusco? With LAN it costs about 400-500 USD. Isn't there anything more economic?
I used Taca from Lima to Cuzco . I bought ticket via web, it works fine.
Then I wandered around peru with Star Peru, bought tickets via web too.
Star peru has the bad habit of changing the scheduled flights, both time and date, and don't even warn you. I took 6 flights of Star peru and none of them was at the scheduled time. But their price is unbeateable.
Taca was on time both ways. Other Taca flight was 6 hours late.
Please consider you are in South America, things go this way.
The lower is the price, the more naif is the service. Decide what you want.
Btw, when I was in airports, I saw many LAN flights delayed or deleted too.
It is a matter of luck.

Taca: Lima -> Cusco
I used Taca from Lima to Cuzco. I bought ticket via web, it works fine...
I did the same thing. Although, this was two years ago, I bought (2) business/first class round trip tickets from Lima to Cuzco for about US$200 a piece on Taca's website. I booked the 5:40am flight, because I had read on other travel websites that there was less likelihood of an early morning cancellation.

I find the young lady in your picture #5 very sweet looking. Is she a working girl or just a girlfriend ? Can we know more about her?

Peruvian Trip
Hello Helpmann,
I find the young lady in your picture #5 very sweet looking. Is she a working girl or just a girlfriend ? Can we know more about her...
Thanks, she's my girlfriend. She isn't a working girl and she isn't Peruvian.
The only "monger like" thing I did on my Peruvian trip was to grab dinner with Sly One and his women.

Some nice chicas in that area for sure, as well as some strip clubs and lot's of cheapies from Trome....
But it's a LOT dangerous !
Before some fool gringo tries it - be warned..It's barely a step up from La Victoria. You shouldn't go there unless
1 - You must speak / understand spanish !
2 - Have some good street smarts, and know a little bit about the area.
3 - Go with a trusted known local, or someone that can pass as one.

La Victoria is rather far from los olivos. Maybe you meant barrio san martin de porres ?
La Victoria is very crazy though.
Once they finish the bus system on the via expresa getting to the Blvd will be a lot easier. I will probably wait until then before I return to lima.
It's a fun little street but rather annoying to get to.

Meaning - with regards to safety .. for a gringo tourist (or a local for that matter)...
I only went there once - with an uncle from that area.
Fun - yes, but not for the average joe on here (Kinda like hunting for girls around Pza Manco Capac.. and the clubs down there)
I can't wait to see the new bus system ... as long as it doesn't go the way of the "Train Electrico" !

I ride the "metro" all the time since it opened in July, clean/modern/lots of girls!

Lima over Christmas
Whats it like the week before hand, and the week after? are the bars and clubs open? Busy?
Whats the nightlife like during the week nights? Pop and non pro action?
Cheers all!

No worries, the Metro is actually up and running. Took it a few times the last time I was in Lima. Nice, clean, but packed at peak hours
