The good side of crooked cops
Both times they accepted a bribe. We paid B100 once abd B200 the second time. I hate crooked cops but we saved time and money by paying the bribe.
Be careful out there.
To me, this is the beauty of crooked cops. You are driving illegally (no license) , you have been caught, and you are supposed to pay bt400 at the police station.
Instead you pay half that on the spot and save yourself 2 hours of hassle.
Interntional License, yes or no
That is incorrect. You got taken my friend. They were only after the bribe, which you voluntarily gave them. A license from any country will do even if it is not endorsed for motorcycles, as you stated was the case for 2nd Road and Beach Road. Next time ask for the ticket and tell them you will go to the embassy with it.
What is the basis for this legal opinion? Do you know the applicable thai law that says a driver's license from any country is valid to drive in Thailand, and even more, that there is no need for a motorcycle license to drive a motorbike in Thailand?
This is contrary to everything I have ever heard while traveling around the world and especially Asia.
But this would be great news if true.
Please give details about how the embassy gets involved. Thanks.
