Flying from Pattaya (Utapao) - Phuket
Has anyone got any comments about flying from Pattaya to Phuket on Bangkok Airways?
I am thinking about doing a multi-hop trip.
Bangkok --car- Pattaya --plane- Phuket --plane-Bangkok.
Flying direct from Pattaya to Phuket just seems to be a smarter plan than going back into Bangkok and flying down from there.

I have done it a few times, no problems on the twin prop planes.
Not trying to put you off, but from memory one of them did crash about 10 years ago landing in Koh Samui.
I don't remember the reason for it.

What to do if you're new an Pattaya disappoints your expectations.
Don't listen to the naysayers. There are plenty of attractive girls all over the place. Prices are up from 5 years ago. That is the main difference and the advent of Agency Girls in some of the Go Go's. If you had a good time 5 years ago, you will have an equally good time now.
It's horses for courses, I'm not a fan of Pattaya, but some guys love it, fair play to them.
To any first-timer I would say DON'T book your hotel for the whole time you are going to be there, take a night only if you can do so, to see if you like the hotel or like the scene. In both cases, it should be easy to move, even in high season, as there are always guys who no show, die, get busted, go to ER, or leave early. And once there, there is alaways another room to be had. (Same of course, goes for BKK in reverse, you can always leave if your hotel booking is not locked in for the whole stay)
Never forget BKK is just a few easy hours away by car bus taxi at almost any time of day and night, so don't feel you are caught there. If you're not having fun within 48 hours chances are, it's not for you, pull the pin on it, and try BKK!
Also, you can try Koh Samet -NOT Koh Samui, just a hour further down the coast, but I'd suggest you take a girl 'on tour' with you there, it is more for honeymooners and middle class Thai than mongers, but it can be like paradise if the girl and you work out and hell if you don't! Remember, you'll have to pay for her trip then too, plus her 'salary'! Make sure she works well as a translator and other chores like sending and collecting your out-sourced laundry, snacks, beer, etc.
Those of you with a little more time or money who have come half way around the world should also remember that Angeles City (Clark Airport) and Cambodia are mere hours away on relatively cheap regional flights if you want to sample them at any point as well.
I do hope you enjoy Pattaya, I hope it may even evolve one day to be more like BKK in terms of the scene, but that's just me. ;-)
Peace out.
