Some highlights of the past weeks
Almost every street you go down, every park you goto its only a short time before some hustler will try to be your friend so they can rip you off or take you somewhere they will get commission. Yesterday I went to parque independencia, just wanted to chill for a bit and some twat came up and introduced himself with some bullshit that I could smell a mile away and he even flashed some id as he said he used to work for the government and got laid off. The ID was pathetic even the picture was misssing. Anyway I listened to about 2 minutes of his bs before the v famous ‘What are you looking for’ line was spewed. My reply was ‘Nada‘, what I should have said is I'm looking for annoying runts like him to shove their heads up their own backsides, and if he can do that I’ll gladly give him 500 pesos for the entertainment.
Today around 2pm I ate in a restaurant on av independencia. Food wasn’t bad, generally I’ve found most places the food is well below average, unless you pay top dollar. Having eaten in many places here now, I can say with certainty, that unless you are fond of banana products then you don’t come here for the food. There have been many occasions I just could not palate what I was served. It’s a shame, in most developing countries I’ve been to you can always find excellent quality food at cheap prices, like in India, Thailand, Malaysia, S. Africa.
Anyway, was stopped by a guy on av. Indep, usual wannabe pimp, offered me chicas all services including room for 800 pesos. So I thought I’ll go with it & see what he had to offer although I found it hard to believe. He took me to a place just off av independencia where 4 girls were working. 3 were chubby around the waste, 4th was slim but face not pretty. I got clarification on the prices from one of the chicas, when I finally got the pimp to shut up, and let her speak uninterrupted. She said she does not give head. 800 pesos was for massage only. 1300 pesos for massage with hand relief. 2000 + pesos for all services for an hour. Took another look at the girls, and decided was not for me. Mr pimp offers to show me another place, takes me to La Parada. About 9 girls, didn’t give 7 of them another look, 2 looked ok but nothing amazing about 7s. But they had their stomachs covered so don’t know if they had barrigas or stretch marks. Pimp had promised me I can take a chica for 1000 pesos, the guy working there clarified infront of the girls that the fixed price is 2500 pesos. I told him in front of all that this tosser (didn’t actually call him a tosser, but probably should have done) promised me chicas for 1000 pesos here. Tosser pimp looked a bit embarrassed and rightly so.
Went to GBP last week, general quality was poor, only 2 were slim. A fat chick did some dance and started grinding me, she didn’t get the hints that I was not interested and even tried to pull me out with her to a private room. Gosh she was hideous! Took the more attractive slimish one. The place is very dark. Took the chica into the private room where there was more light saw she was a little wrinkly and some cellulite. Anyway, head was ok but she was trying to do some porn star moves next, which don’t work for me as I prefer to be in control, but she was insistent on calling the shots and wanted to pleasure herself more than me. I asked her to give me head again and she refused, also she said you only get one shot. She was complaining. I told her sternly that I was paying the money, if she wanted to call the shots, she should pay me. After telling her off she gave me more head, but the mood had been ruined and I didn’t complete and the hour was up. GBP cost is 1500 for only one hour, I reckon its because the quality of chicas is not great.
I picked up a chica in Parque cologne after some chit chat walked her over to get a coffee near my house from which I walked her out in to my apartment which is across the road. Didn’t know she was a pro for sure, as we had not discussed money. Got her in to my apartment sat on bed, then she started to spew her lifes problems & that she had to pay 4000 pesos rent. I told her what the ‘F’, and then we got down to negotiations. Got her down to 1500 for 2 hrs 2 shots. After the 1st half hour she started complaining that I take a long time to come and my pene is too big for her (I was not surprised to hear this in Thailand but here I didn’t expect.). Anyway I finally offered her a tip of 500 if I was happy with the service, so she made a little more effort. Wasn’t bad, but I would not see her again.
Met another 18 yr old chica in El conde café the other day. I bought her and her friend cervezas, and as I was leaving her friend asked if I could give money for food. I said ‘No, I havnt eaten either, maybe if I come back later we‘ll eat together‘. We exchanged nrs, not soon after she sent me a message to pay to charge her phone with credit. I replied in a text in broken Spanish, ‘Why should I, I'm not some retarded gringo’. I don’t mind spending on chicks a little sometimes but only on my own terms. We met up the next evening in the same cafe and it turns out that she’s a sweet girl, her friends a semi-pro. When we met I told her off lightly for not coming alone as I had asked, she said she didn’t get my text and said she was nervous to come alone anyway. So we left her friend chatting up some potential punter, and I took her to a billiards place to play pool. She was too shy to come to my apartment solo. In conversation, I had explained to her that I can get chicas for free so I would never pay etc. Now she wants to see me again. Moral of the story, don’t take any bullshit, take control early on, be stern with these people, don’t be a sucker, lead all the way. Overall if you’re just looking for P4P, Santo Domingo does not come close to Cape Town or Bangkok. If you are looking for normal chicas, there might be some opportunities here, but not more then anywhere else in Europe or most other countries if you have the confidence to go for it. If anything I’ve found normal chicas to be quite unreliable and flaky here, or just insane (I have a stalker, the chica I first met in av Venezuela is obsessed with me now can‘t get rid of her. She’s not a pro after all but she is mental! ). I’m working on a few others. We shall see how it goes. .
Positives: Great rum, awesome music if you like merringue, bachata etc, generally a good vibe, . Did I mention the Rum? Negatives: Despite a large poor population many things are surprisingly expensive e. G toiletries, electrical products, souvenirs, shoes; many people want to rip you off, foreigners are seen as cash cows to be milked rather then fellow human beings, p4p nothing special from my experiences at least, many flaky chicks, a little dangerous on your own I’ve heard of many gringos who have been mugged so better not to go out on your own in certain areas, annoying touts, getting just a little too hot and sticky now, water supply & electricity problems (currently 3 days of complete water stoppage in zona colonial for repairs), food quality generally poor, . Did I mention the touts?

Robbed at the La Casona Dorada Hotel
I visited Dominican Republic for about two weeks. I stayed in many good hotels. My last two nights I decided to try the La Casona Dorada hotel (cheap hotel) on Avenida Independencia in the Gascue section of Santo Domingo. The room was small and ugly with no safe. The room had a balcony and was on the second floor. On my last night in Santo Domingo I left this hotel around 5:30 pm. I returned to my room at around 5:30am the next morning. All of my electronics that were in the room were stolen, ipod, portable computer (laptop), digital camera, cell phones and other items. I was not happy.
I went to the guys who work at the hotel and asked them to call the police. They refused. I then walked to the V Centenario Hotel on the malecon and asked them to call the police for me. The person at the V Centenario called the police and told me to wait. I waited for over 30 minutes and no police. I then asked what I should do. They told me I should take a taxi to the police station. I took a taxi to the Nacional Police, I believe this small police station was on Avenida Bolivar. There were a few guys dressed in plain clothes sitting on the steps of this police station. I explained that my room had been broken into and robbed at the La Casona Dorada hotel. They told to come back at 9am to file a report. I then walked from this police station back to the La Casona Dorada hotel.
When I got back to the La Casona Dorada Hotel there was a Politur police officer there. I showed him my room and he then took me to the politur police station in Zona Colonial. I had to wait in this police station for about 2 hours for the Colonel to arrive.
After the Colonel of the Politur arrived we drove back to the La Casona Dorada hotel. The Colonel of the Politur Police spoke with the management of the hotel. I was told that the hotel would reimburse me for the items that were stolen. My stuff was stolen about two months ago and I have not received anything. The people at the hotel la casona dorada never apologized, never said sorry, nothing. I have been dealing with their insurance company on almost a daily basis and the last thing the insurance company said is that there is a problem with the coverage and that during Semana Santa no one works, so I was told I would have to wait till next week.
I have written the Dominican Tourism office about this experience and I never received a response back.
Supposedly the thieves broke one of the metal bars that were above the balcony, they then opened the sliding door that led from the room to the balcony. I have stayed at other hotels in the Dominican Republic with sliding balcony doors and they had a metal pin that slid into a hole in the doors that would prevent them being slid open. The balcony doors at the La Casona Dorada Hotel did not have a metal pin. I locked the sliding doors before I exited my room.
The metal bars protecting the room from the outside were useless. Seems the thieves broke one very easily with no one hearing a thing and then easily broke the lock on the sliding door. No safe in the room.
In those two weeks in Dominican Republic I dropped a lot of money on expensive hotels, resturants, 26% taxes. My mistake was staying for two nights at the cheap shit La Casona Dorada Hotel. I spent my last day with the police, getting fingerprinted, I visited the main police station, which has many buildings. The police fingerprinted the room as well. I spent over 12 hours with the police. The police guys I met very nice.
Next step is I have a friend is a lawyer in Dominican Republic, I will have to pay him to start a lawsuit against the hotel. It is not a nice way to treat tourists.
