Another great stay in Medellin
just got back from two weeks in colombia, 11 days of which were spent in medellin and i just wanted to share my experiences and two pesos worth with the rest of y'all.
i got into medellin after a 10 layover in bogota because it's much cheaper for me to fly into there then buy my ticket to medellin through avianca once i'm in the country. guys, not sure if you know it or not, but it's overwhelmingly cheaper to buy domestic tickets while you're in colombia rather than before your trip while you're at home. if you try and buy a one way ticket from bogota to medellin through the avianca website and are using an american credit card, it's going to run you 250k pesos. if you wait until you get to el dorado in bogota and buy it at the counter, it costs 99k pesos for the exact same flight and seat. i talked to an avianca rep on the phone before i left asking why, and he explained that their tickets are on a scale of 1-10 in price. when you purchase the ticket out of country using an american credit card, the lowest price scale you can get is 5, purchasing them in colombia, you can choose from 1-10. this may not be a big deal for many of you, especially when factoring in the inconvenience, but if you're looking to hit up a few different cities while you're there, it's worth thinking about. apparently the gringo tax applies even with established colombian companies.
onwards to the better details.
i got in exhausted and headed down to the mansion, where i had booked the backup room(9, i believe) as everything else was booked there and at el castillo. marci had warned me that it was way below typical standards and was typically a maid's quarters. luckily, her warnings were way overblown, and i found the room to be much to my liking. a bit small, but cozy, clean, well appointed, and at a great price.
i was only there for a few days and would have stayed for the whole time i was in medellin, but i was meeting a normal girl introduced to me through a friend there, she kept on hounding me to find out when i'd be in medellin, and everything was booked at the mansion and el castillo beyond the few days i had reserved there, so it was on to the hotel nutibara for me for the duration of my stay.
while at the mansion, i packed in as much of the strip club scene, etc, as i could. the first day i was there, i headed over to la mayorista after i took a nap to recover a bit and picked up an old favorite from my previous trip last year. she looked a bit hardened as compared to the previous year, but still had her tight little body together. i was horny as hell, so wasn't in the mood to bargain heavily, so i ended up settling on her initial offer of 30k, instead of haggling. after i got out, the dudes from the mansion that i came with were still around and looking to head out a strip club, so we hopped in to the taxi and went on a wild goose chase for a place called apoteosis. neither cab driver seemed to know where this place was, but after some vague directions from one of the guys and asking other cab drivers as we looked, we managed to find it. it was a thursday night and the place was fairly dead. the girls dancing were anywhere from 5-7, but one of the guys we were with was looking to find this one chick he'd passed on the year before and regretted. he was talking to the guy at the door and found out that the reason for the lack in talent that night was that many of the girls were out with a flu bug that had been spreading amongst them.
i think the cover was 10k with two drinks included. but the waitress or whatever kept trying to fucking squeeze us for more money after the two drinks, saying that somehow the water and soda that we had ordered went over the very clearly stated free two drinks. after numerous fuck-offs, she finally took the hint and gave up.
after the so so talent that night and constant pestering by the waitress, who looked like she'd had a few too many to drink, we headed over to san diego show club to cap things off. there were a lot of 7-9s there, but paying 100-200k for from what i've heard is a crap shoot as far as enthusiasm from the girls isn't really for me, even though they are pretty stunning. one of the guys i was there with told me the next day he ended up taking a gorgeous one there that he negotiated one hour at 160k for and had a so so experience with, cutting it short at 45 minutes.
next day was a dedicated casa run, and i hit three that day, all with a fairly good selection on offer. one funny thing, the cab driver seemed to be totally unaware of the casa scene in centro, and kept on referring to only the higher end ones that he preferred. i ended up giving him my hand written list of the few i'd written down for the day and he was psyched, especially when i mentioned the price ranges. i got a chuckle out of the thought that a gringo like me could be giving advice to a cab driver there.
new life was first for me, as i had good memories from last year. i'm happy to say the talent was still on par, though only three of the girls struck a particular fancy for me, i consider that good odds. i ended up with a gorgeous little morena spinner who didn't look a day over 19, she ranked an 8 for me, but ymmv, i think her name may have been lorena, though i forget. a half hour and 35k later, i was walking away with a spring in my step to the next one.
i made my way down to the plaza berrio where the basilica and botero sculptures are to grab a copita of mango con sal and do some people watching and recoup for a little bit for the next pop. while i was there i caught my first glimpse of the police action to clean up the area of **** sws that everyone has been talking about here lately. i was sitting in front of the museo de antioquia, and the police had the small piece of the square to the left of it(if you're facing the museo) blocked off with one of their big open-backed trucks with the canvas top parked there. minutes later, i noticed the cops pushing along a procession of clearly **** sws and young kids who looked to be glue-sniffers, pickpockets, etc. towards the truck. a few of them tried to walk away, though they were quickly rounded back up again and stuck in the back of the truck. i think most of them knew they were being watched by everyone in the square and made a big show of bravado dissing the cops and acting like it was no big deal, yelling to their friends who hadn't gotten busted. as the truck left, i noticed one of the cops burned some of the stuff they'd confirep001ed from them right there behind the truck on the ground. it looked like a small bottle of poppers or other inhalant, and fake cedulas.
i saw this same routine go down on at least half the days i was staying there downtown for the rest of my stay.
i view this crackdown in two different lights, mostly positive. for starters, the fact that they're putting the pressure on **** sws puts me at ease, as it takes a lot of the guesswork off of me as far as determining who's legal and who's not. i imagine that the knowledge that the police are keeping an eye on things keeps the rest of the girls and associated riff-raff on their best behavior too.
on the other hand, i can see this also opening the door for the police to give gringo mongers more of a hassle, as evidenced by ricker's previous post on just such a situation he encountered in de grieff. for a less experienced gringo with less knowledge of spanish, i can see how such a situation can quickly turn ugly and unpleasant in a number of different ways.
the next casa of the day was one that i had great luck with last year as well, latina's. like at new life, the selection was somewhere between 10-20 girls, and i switched up my tastes from petite spinners to tall curvy ones with silicone where it counts. i ended up with one named catalina or carolina, with a great attitude and killer body who was down with daty and dfk for an extra 25k.
after another moment to chill and plan my next course of action, i took a detour and decided to check out the place listed on one of the cards that the touts pass out in centro just for something new. for the life of me, i can't recall the name of it and lost the card, it was about 3 blocks from plaza berrio, behind the hotel nutibara, which i tend to use as a point of reference in terms of centro action. the selection was small when i went there, perhaps no more than a dozen girls, but their looks were on average few points above the previous two casas that day. usually i end up settling on two or three that i like with of course one standing out above the rest, but i was hard pressed to pick just one on this occasion. it was a light skinned girl with a natural body and a charm that struck me from the beginning for me this time. once in the room and shortly after getting down to action, it looked like my initial impression was a bit optimistic. a bit mechanical in the sack, but she got the job done.
back to the mansion to chill for a bit and relax, as i'm still tired from the layover and adjusting to the climate and altitude after coming from the frigid conditions in the ny area.
that night, after chilling at the mansion with a couple guys from el castillo, one of them suggests we start out the night checking out the street scene in centro, which i haven't done at night, so i'm down for it. i'm still whipped and feeling under the weather so i pop a 50mg viagra purchased at the pharmacy across the street from the mansion for insurance, something i'm not accustomed to doing as i've never had a need for it.
we got dropped off around berrio, and walk down to that area behind that church to see what's what. now, i'm a big fan of mayorista, but for me this area felt markedly more dangerous and way more down and out, degradated and seedy. any semi-hardon i may have had was gone shortly after arriving. the area was chock full of street children, homeless people missing limbs, passed out in various states on sidewalks and staircases, and a lot of other dangerous looking elements ripe for some trouble. the girls were fewer and more rep001tered in small satellites hanging around the various short time hotels, and frankly all of them looked of questionable age. i'm hoping we can stroll through, see nothing we like and move on the next episode. however, one of the girls there, a gorgeous vivacious little 24 year old(cedula present and accounted for) has her heart set on one of the guys i'm with and follows us for two or three blocks intent on landing him. he begins to warm to her a bit and she suggests we stop for a beer in one of the little bars with slot machines on the street. we sit down and order a few bottles of club colombia or whatever that main beer is called while she goes through the mp3 selection on the computer behind the bar, regaling us with her knowledge of guns and roses songs. it's at this point after a few sips of beer, i start to feel seriously light-headed. i apparently go pale as a sheet and start sweating profusely. i play it cool for a few minutes, just waiting for it to pass, but it soon becomes abundantly clear to me that i'm getting worse, and quickly. i feel seconds away from passing out and start seeing colors in my eyes and losing my balance. i quickly ask the dude i'm with if he'll come with me in the cab back to the mansion as i feel like i'm about to go down for the count at any moment. i stagger out the door and we manage to flag down a cab, and the two dudes along with chick hop in. i get worse as we get towards the mansion, but it seems to peak and i begin to feel better. of course, at the moment, my first thought is that somebody put something in my beer. in hindsight, i'm 98% certain this wasn't the case. i think it may have had something to do with my not being adjusted to the climate and altitude yet and perhaps sick at the time, not being used to the viagra, and being a little bit drunk. i got back to the mansion and the dudes went on with the chick to mayorista. not sure how that story ended for them as i moved on to the hotel the next day, but i'm sure they had a great time.
to make a long story short, i ended up having a great stay spending time with the regular girl i'd been planning on meeting there. i saw a lot of medellin from a native's view and she was a very warm, passionate and open girl, if a bit clingy(for example, calling my hotel room directly at night, as if to see if i'm in my room or out), but i think that's par for the course with latinas in general.
during the downtimes, i still managed to hit more casas and mayorista, and one night at conejitas. thus far, these two venues(mayorista, centro casas) are my favorite way to get some action there.
there were plenty of gorgeous girls around at the mansion, but that's not really the reason i stay there. yes, it's very convenient and has more of a legit feel as they're there within your comfort zone, the girls are all of high quality, and on their best behavior, but i don't really feel like dropping 150k for one. not that i'm a penny pincher, but my first and only experience with a mansion girl was a formative experience for me, as after i dropped 150k for the night, i saw her a couple nights later on mayorista looking hot as hell for 25k. live and learn.
it's a great launching point to start at or stay at the whole time you're in medellin. there's plenty of other savvy dudes with pointers on the current scene and to head out to with you to the strip clubs and more sketchy areas you may not want to go to alone. the whole staff there is incredibly helpful, particular kudos for this stay go out to marci for helping me out so much with a variety of issues including getting a sim card that would work with the phone i had.
i personally like to get out and about a bit and explore behind the scenes a bit. my one negative experience with the centro street scene didn't sour me to it completely, though it did strike me as particularly down and out. i'll give it another look next time i'm there, with some caution, of course.
i try and go for a little bit of everything while i'm there, but personally i lean more towards the casas and mayorista, as i love finding the gems that can be had there, and the sheer convenience and variety of the casas. mayorista may not be for everyone, as it can appear rough at first glance and many people prefer the sense of legitimacy that comes with picking up a girl at an established location, rather than a free agent, but i've landed some of the finest chicas to be had there during my two trips to medellin. give it a shot, you may realize that you can get a better experience when you're dealing with a chica who doesn't have her boss looking over her shoulder, feeling the 9-5 grind that comes with working at an establishment. she chooses her hours and keeps all the profits, often this translates to a better experience, though of course, it's a two way street.
a great trip all in all, looking forward to the next one. looking forward to hearing everyone else's experiences.
ps
one particular chica at mayorista stands out for me, though not for good reasons, anyone know what the deal is with this girl? i could have sworn i recall hearing something about her on here or from someone else.
she's a gorgeous fairly light skinned little spinner with an amazing fake rack that goes by the name natalia, i believe. we get into the room, and she's got a terrible attitude, but i overlook that considering how fine she is. she starts to undress, but stops with the bra. i go to help her undo it and she tells me she's keeping it on and doesn't want to take it off. wtf? part of her allure was how tasty that rack looked. we get down to it and i playfully hint at how nice her tits look and and how i want to see them. she gets pissed at this point and tells me to blow my load already. performance wise, she was ok, though her attitude sucked. anyone know what the story is with this girl? did she have a botched operation, is she lactating and just sensitive?
she started the bidding at 25k, which surprised me, as she was one of the hottest ones there, so maybe she was taking that into account.
pps
one other pointer, be very, very careful walking on the streets there, i'm referring to avoiding getting hit by cars, in particular taxi cabs. anyone who's been there knows how crazy the cab drivers are, but i had a really harrowing experience while i was there. my cab driver was driving me on avenida oriental towards el polbado right before the bridge at around 6 pm one day, when he hit a pedestrian while going probably 40-50 miles an hour. i was in the passenger seat, and the guy was just walking through the crosswalk minding his own business. i don't recall if he had the right of way or not, my cab driver tried to brake, but his brakes were obviously shot to shit, as he failed miserably, and hit this guy full force with the front of his car. hard enough to crack his windshield and bend his front fender in towards his wheel so that it was scraping against his tire as he beat a hasty getaway with me in the car. the pedestrian didn't even see him coming. i don't know if he killed him or not, but he definitely seriously injured him. the guy was laid out on the pavement, and the driver didn't miss a heartbeat before gunning it out of there and nearly hitting another car as he fled the scene. i had him drop me off shortly after and took down his cab number and beat it directly to the reception desk of the holiday inn in el poblado where i had the receptionist call the police to report it and give them the cab number. i looked in the local news every day since then, but didn't see anything written about it.
