Yet Another Transport Question / Answer and Bonus GPS advice
been to palace, but everything is point towards oase being the better bet for me this comine tuesday night and then a tuesday daytime layover a few weeks later.
i was thinking if renting a car. i assumed that it might be challenging to get back from oase to the airport. not the case? how much should a taxi to / from the airport cost?
if you rent a car, you basically need to have a gps to get back to the airport, unless you've somehow managed to figure out the german road system which i clearly haven't.
you can rent a car with the gps already in it, bring your own gps, or use the google maps on your phone if you've managed to stick a german sim card in it and get it working. if you buy your own gps in germany, i would highly recommend the tomtom go start 25 model. it's only about 150 euros which includes lifetime maps and traffic. mine has already paid for itself by warning me about all of the speed cameras. before my tomtom, i used to get a pile of tickets in the mail after every trip. don't buy one of the worldwide models that work both in the states and in europe. it's better to buy a separate device for each side of the atlantic. please don't make me explain why.
on the subject of taxis, going rate from oase to the airport is 50-55 euros. but, if you read my july 21, 2013 post on this thread, you will find a secret for getting a 35 euro deal if you can phone a taxi service and don't mind waiting an additional 10 minutes for the taxi to show up and if you follow my instructions in my post about requesting the special deal before the taxi guy turns on his taxi meter.
but the best advice i can give you is stay away from palace. wanking off at home would probably be better than getting caught in that tourist trap. ok, i exaggerate, but really, any other hessen or nrw club would be better than palace.
after your trip to oase, be sure to post some reports about the girls of oase to appease captaincabins. he gets quite upset when there aren't enough posts about the oase girls.
