Renting A Car Makes More Sense...
Probably does. But as someone from N. A. Who is in Europe maybe once a year for fun, I'd rather party at Oase, then climb into a Taxi at night & let someone else find his way back in a strange land at night. No need to worry about getting lost, road closures or other problems. I can then get on the train and head for Frankfurt without caring where I will park when I get back downtown.
When it's time to leave I just train it to the airport. No gas to buy, don't have to allow time to return the car, or allow for traffic. All-in-all, fewer headaches. But yes, I do have to leave the paradise that is Oase in time for the last train. To date, on 3 trips, that's not been a problem.
If you add in a club that is a bit more challenging to reach from Frankfurt via public transit, say Bernd's for example, then maybe you can make a case. Although I enjoyed napping on the trains back to Frankfurt and then hitting a bar or strip club by the Hauptbahnhof before going to my hotel.
There's no one way for everyone. It's up to your own tastes & tolerances.
Myr.
Does it seem that renting a car makes more sense? Round trip with trains is 20 Euros, plus whatever the train costs. 5 more?
Plus you get the advantage of leaving when you want, not worrying about transfers. A rental car might be 50 Euro but provides so much more flexibility imo.
