LBC is quite correct - the old "should I post" issue
this old chestnut comes up many times, and this is something i have been warned about by service providers, mongerers, and freinds of service providers often enough. this is the bottom line.
1) all internet posters are regarded as idiots by the girls. if you do not believe me ask cordelia and shiatsu. ask any girl who works in fact.
2) you will get "blackballed" by girls, ridiculed and abused if they know you are a poster and especially if you post something bad about a girl (even if she deserves it). just ask fred, they all hated him when it got out.
3) you do not get identified always by a name, but by the details (i.e. "she came back on thursday after a two year absence, her hair is now short, and she is no longer any good") which nearly exposed me, as an example and i had to talk pretty sharp to get out of it.
4) girls search by strings. many of the posters here are incapable of using the search engine to find the answer to a question, but many of the girls are not so stupid as they can not put their own name in the search box.
5) you do not have the right to any information that lbc does not want to give out, nor do you have the right to criticise him for witholding anything he wants, for any reason. if you are really peeved about not knowing a name, then pm the guy.
while all of this is quite interesting, it is drifting far away from the original point of discussion. going back to that: i would say firmly there is 0% chance that bc or anybody else would be "outed" or be identified in anyway if he were to say the specific name of a fantastic girl that he heard "through back channels" had returned to work at oase.
if its that convoluted, then probably not, but post enough times, the wrong sort of details and you will be outed. i have seen it happen. (see point 2)
look at dedalus' post a few days ago in world thread telling us that he heard laura is back.
dedalus is known as not being an internet poster because the way he posts stops him getting identified. (see point 3). he is clever about what he says and about who, to who. he is also extremely well respected by the girls (more than anyone else i know) and as a result would be seen as beyond suspicion in that case.
finally, don't bother to look through previous posts to prove that i have done it myself, because i have. it was me blabbing away or taking a risk, or being thoughtless, we all do it. but it was my risk to take. now, its up to you, but posting names and dates on a public forum must come with a health warning if you are a regular.
