Is there any chance these women will sponsor a guy? Like, pay my rent in Tverskaya? :)
Before the crash, probably yes.
They are called "Alfons".
But now, the most Alfons can hope for is a dinner, chocolate and some nice words.
Life sucks, don't it? :)

Okay, I'm not fussy, I'll take anywhere in the Garden Ring!
Seriously, times must be tough if a multiple oligarch divorcee can't keep her little Alfons in the style to which he's become accustomed..

Any experience from you guys with an internet dating scammer?
After reading many stories, I was aware when I received a letter from a woman who "wanted to meet me". She started with nice and innocent pictures, then grew up to almost naked ones when she turned to be in love with me and asked 400 euros for a tourist visa to visit me in the US.
This is a business really growing up in Russia. Be careful guys!

You just don't understand, Nightwalker. She needs the 400 euros to open the safety deposit box full of millions of dollars that was left there from her (recently deceased) cousin. Of course you will need to advance her some more cash for the roundtrip to Lagos, but think of the windfall you'll be having.
Seriously, this racket is nothing new. The cost for a US visa application is $131 in Russia, not $500, and there's no requirement for having a minimum balance of money in any bank account (which could, of course, be forged in any case).
In general, if you want to increase the liklihood of an earnest relationship online, you should initiate the conversation, not the other way around. I don't have the patience, personally, but lots of guys here swear by mamba.ru and other websites for hooking up, and the girls are usually legit.
Udachi!

I'm planning on spending a year in Moscow, and (hopefully) hooking up with some Russian women while there. I heard that most women in Russia don't use birth control, is this true? What would the consequences be if I happened to get a girl pregnant? Would I basically be screwed, or would I be able to get out of the situation rather easily? Any advice is much appreciated.

P.S. I'm talking more about just regular girls here, not prostitutes, but if anybody has advice regarding them you can share it.

Udachi!
I wouldn't go so far to say the girls on Mamba are generally legit, it is also crawling with pros and girls looking for sponsorship. If anything, I think Russian girls are becoming more and more whorish, especially the younger ones. Not necessarily asking for money, but just interested in guys who spend first, play later.
Coming from the West, I've always been the play first, spend later type. Like spending is more of a reward than an entrance fee.
But the girls are legit in the sense that the pictures are generally real and that they won't try to trick you out of money. They'll just lose interest if they don't see a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It takes some work... and patience... to filter through the BS.
I really don't have the patience or time and am not as active on the inet as before. Meeting girls in clubs and bars is what I like, although it also has both it's up and downsides.
Off to meet my date now.

It didn't used to be like that. An entire generation of Russian girls has grown up with fast and easy money (at least in Moscow). It will be interesting to see how they adapt to a "normal" life.

zhizn prodolzhatsya...
No it didn't and I am still Russian women's number one fan. But especially on Mamba and social dating sites, there is a negative culture developing. Muscovites especially, but really in all cities, there are tons of girls who live off of other peoples money. It's not that they are all sponsored or something like that, it is just that so much loose money has been floating around and as you know the Russians love to spend money and show their wealth, so girls have developed a skewed relationship to money.
I am interested to see how it will pan out in the next year or two. They're spoiled for sure... but damn do they look fantastic all dolled up... :)

2004 Vs 2008
.....They're spoiled for sure... but damn do they look fantastic all dolled up... :)
My 2 crowns....czech cause from 1 january slovakia will get euro too LOL....
4 years ago the russians were about 15-20% more sexy than polish, czech and slovak girls that I know very well and they were almost at same level "serious" and at the same level spoiled.... from the last experience, included provincies too, I saw as even if russian girls keep on be a bit more sexy, and maybe passionate too, than their eastern sisters, now they are TOO MUCH spoiled, too much into money.... Doc said it perfect, they want first money and then play, I'd say they want money and (maybe) later play...
I think for one that no go to Russia for business but only for mongering, it does no more worth it as before....much less troubles, much cheaper if I will travelling a bit less and where I do not need to get a visa....not to mention easier to get a "relationship" and no problem to get them travelling to my home with no visa-problems.....
We will see, I am curious to see how the 2009 will change our hobby and most of all where we all will finish to go to make our spending money still worth it....

What happens if you get one pregnant?
Has this happened to anyone?
-
Pregnant..
You set up a monthly payment to provide some financial support and have a reason to visit Russia more often. Around $1500 a month should suffice and some extra a couple of times a year for the kids essentials.
Unless you plan to marry the girl this should keep things right, otherwise you should have paid by the hour and not taken the risk.
Yes, I'm speaking from experience.

Damn, so you can't just escape from the situation? What if I just leave Russia, she'd have no way of getting hold of me. But I was just asking, that never actually happened.
