Is BC really this dead fellas? No news for nearly 2 months. I guess I'll need to pack it up early and head to the North Coast after day 2. Any word on the "new" El Candil? Any word on the scene? As stated earlier I will be there 7/25-7/31. Anyone in town for those dates?
My opinion is that BC has been dead for almost 2 years now which is a shame. The north coast is very much still kicking .
Belated report from an early February trip. Thought Boca Chica info was redundant but just for the record. Got in to Las Americas and grabbed a cab to BC, driver asked $25 but settled for $20. I had spoken with Ghyslane at Hotel Garant and believed I had a reservation but as no money or cc info had been exchanged I was not overly confident. Not to worry, Ghyslane, an ex-pat Quebecois, had my room ready and I prepaid for seven nights at$40 per. Very Chica friendly environment, good security, comfy, clean, daily maid service, and an easy walk to everywhere in BC. My room did not have a/see which was not necessary in February. Here’s a link to a hotel map so you can get your bearings:
http://bocachicabeach.net/map.html
The exchange rate was about 33.5 to 1 when I was there. There are cambios downtown that all were competitive but as I had brought traveler’s checks to avoid the possibility of credit card scams I used the bank on San Rafael east of Sanchez and got as good a rate there.
First night I was tired from the trip but after some coaching from a couple of retired bahstahnahs(that’s in MA where the red sox play) I picked a cutie who was sitting on the wall at the front of the hotel and had a pleasant $500rd experience.
There are pros, semi-pros, and regular girls everywhere in Boca Chica. I’m an older, paunchy, gringo but many wanted to be my girlfriend. The beach and Duarte street have the highest concentration of girls and the going rate is $500rd for a short time experience although they all want more. My best experience for the trip was a sweetie named Altagracia, who approached me as I sat outside my room reading after breakfast. She agreed to $500rd and we had a nice wake-up call. Got her digits and set up a repeat visit for the following morning.
My experience is probably atypical. The midnight (weekday) and 2:00 AM (weekend) curfew are both past my bedtime so I did not miss the late night partying that many mongers favor. My espanol is rudimentary at best but communication was not a problem in most instances. The nightclubs on Duarte had plenty of offerings as early as 2:00 pm so I can only imagine that evenings provide a better selection. If you pull up a streetside barstool and pop a cold one you’ll have offers of company almost immediately and pretty much any time of day is good.
My most regrettable experience was a chica who approached me at the Playa Vista beach bar. Hard core, pushy puta who tried to overcharge and made noises about calling the politur which I read as a bluff and started dialing my non-working cell phone telling her that I would call them for her. She relented and left me in peace.
I’ve been diligently working on my espanol and will venture further afield on my next visit to the DR. Boca Chica has very easy pickings but is not the party town it once was. While it has much to offer in traveler friendly services it’s heyday is probably past. I liked the call centers and internet cafes, the restaurant selection was good, and the markets have a nice variety of food and booze at reasonable prices. I’d go back but I’m not a hard core partier so for me it was a good fit. One of my first trip reports since Atta days but my thanks to all those who contribute and keep this great resource timely and informative. Muchas Gracias.
To add to the previous report...2006 was my second trip to BC. I had been there in 2004 as well. The decline was noticeable. I stayed at El Candil, before the terrific owners, Guiseppe and Petur left for greener pastures, and before the curfew came into effect.
What I noticed different, was that a lot of the houses around the town and also small business places, even on DuArte, the main drag, were boarded up, out of business and physically in decline. The place generally had a sad quality to it. Even in the evening, when the putas were out and about on Duarte in numbers, it wasn't easy. Walking down DuArte was like running the gauntlet of pushy putas. They'd come on real strong and they were no beauties! They were mostly the shopworn variety with a lot of miles on the meter and rolls of fat where their stomachs were supposed to be. The girls waiting for you at the bars and roadside tables were also numerous and they'd wave and shout loudly at you to have you sit down with them. However, sitting down with 5 or 6 girls at a table is bad business. The waiter shows up and it's drinks for everybody! The high pressure push of the main drag at night wasn't my style at all!
During the daytime the touts were everywhere. Much more common and relentless that in Sosua. These young guys, in their twenties, would engage you by asking in English, "Where you from?" They'd latch on and start walking with you asking simple, seeming harmless questions. If you answered at all, the next thing would be "Want a beautiful girl?" and then, finally, after they'd followed you to the beach and maybe sat down next to you, they'd ask for a beer. If you kept saying "NO", eventually, they'd just ask for money and give you some hard luck story. This scenario could be repeated 2 or 3 times a day in BC, until you were ready to start screaming at the poor guy as soon as he arrived! This isn't to say that dealing with touts is not a common tourist experience anywhere in the DR, but in BC I found it impossible to avoid, no matter what tactic I employed.
The other thing I noticed that was different was the expanded presence of a certain quality of girl that you didn't see much of during my earlier visit, which was the "ghetto" or "hood rat" type---young, hustling you hard, a few tats, cold attitude, but hot on the trail of your money. They were there on DuArte at night and on the beach during the day. They could be those hot, skinny hard-bodies that make the blood run warm, but they just smelled too much of rip-off to make a move.
Another thing that was new, were the increased number of beat-up looking druggies that were hanging around, or were rushing around on some mission somewhere. They had the unclean, dirty clothes, burnt out addict look. I was surpised to see them. This type exists in plenty in the hard time ghettos of our country. In the DR, although the people were always poor, they were not burnt out, low-life types that you see walking the stroll in our brown and black ghettos here. It looks like drugs seem had made an impact on BC.
I stayed for 5 days (plenty!) and found my fun mostly in the little park at the end of town and on the beach during the day. I tried to hook up with the "manicure girls" or the "hair-braiding girls" mostly from Haiti. My batting average all around was 50-50 in BC. This means that when I did hook up, half the experiences went south, with some BS problem like upselling, not the service promised, etc. You know the drill.
In Sosua, where I headed afterwards, I had a great time. I stayed for 2 weeks. Most hook ups worked out well, not as much BS. The girls were more plentiful and overwhelmingly of a better quality...and although the hustle always persists....it was not as bothersome and quite manageable for someone who has had some little experience.
Just my wandering thoughts as I dream of my return to the run-down paradise that is the DR. However, this time I will bypass BC altogether.

Is the park you're talking about, the one in front of the church at the end of Duarte?
...the run-down paradise that is the DR.
That's probably the perfect way of putting it.
Is the park you're talking about, the one in front of the church at the end of Duarte?
Yeah, it's the little park with benches all around, where pretty girls can sit and wait for you...or you can wait for them. If the church is "in front", then the Bank is "behind" it and the tiny, little-used Post Office is a little further down the road, away from town. At the very other, opposite end of DuArte is the Hamaca Resort.
This park is a wonderful place to cool off after a day at the beach, sit on a bench in the late afternoon sun and wait for something to happen. I always found someone of interest by the time I left. Usually not the first one, but good things came to he who waits. The bus from SD stops at the corner of the park and young lovlies are always coming and going. Young (AND AVAILABLE) Mommies sit with their babies on the benches during the day, always interested in a conversation and usually with a cousin just around the corner to provide baby-sitting services. I met one busty (heavy-lowriders with leaking milky nipples) Haitian Mommie, about 20-25, who went home by moto-cocho, dropped off her baby and came back 1/2 hour later for an hour of playtime with me. We had to go to a ST room (300 RD) because she had no cedula, which is a problem with Haitians in general, and many other working girls on the street.
Anyway, I usually preferred hanging out in the park, rather than cruising the main drag at night or walking up and down on the hot beach during the day.
Anyway, I usually preferred hanging out in the park, rather than cruising the main drag at night or walking up and down on the hot beach during the day.
The park is practical. Almost everyone passes through the park, either to go to the supermarket, the bank, the police station, the beach, or to catch or leave a bus.
All you have to do is grab a beer and find a park bench with some shade and wait (like a tigre) for the right girl to pass by.

First, I made a reservation by email at Hotel Residencial El Candil (El Candil) which included free transfer to and from the airport. They requested I fax my credit card information but I refused due to security issues and they still confirmed my reservation.

My flight arrived an hour late and after paying the $10 tourist fee, clearing immigrations/customs and baggage claim, I was pleased to find an El Candil hotel driver holding up a sign with my name. From the airport, it was a short drive to the hotel (10 minutes) and check-in was painless. My one bedroom apartment was clean and adequate for the price ($47/night). The prices have increased slightly since my visit in mid June 2007.
After putting my things away, I decided to visit the beach and Duarte street to become familiar with the area. I was only approached by a couple of SW but it was still early (not yet 7p). I was exhauted from my trip so I returned to the hotel had dinner and crashed for the night.
The second day I headed back to beach to get a better feel of how things worked and to see what was available. Again, it was crowded and music blasting all along the beach. There were beautiful women everywhere. Unfortunately, I don't speak spanish and I found it very difficult to communicate with the regular girls. At the same time, I was approached by some average looking girls willing to provide their services. I decided to escape the heat of the beach and return to Duarte street later that evening.
Finally, I made it to Daurte street aroud 10: 30p and there were many girls available. I sat at this one bar and enjoyed my first Presidente while several girls pranced by trying to get my attention. Then, this one approched me and smiled. She was light skinned, 19 yrs old, very fit and had a stunning face. Dressed casually in jeans and no make up she was definitely a 9 by any standard. We aggreed on 1, 500 pesos for a ST and walked back to EL Candil. She gave me a CBJ and FS. Her skills were only average. I met a few of guys from Ft. Lauderdale at El Candil on the third day and we downed Grey Goose and Presidente for most of the afternoon. After carrying the party to Duarte street, we got a table ordered some food and more beers. Time passed by fairly quickly and it was 2:00a and I hadn't decided on a girl to take back with me. I saw this one girl (dark skinned, 27 yr old) exit the disco an she agreed on 1, 000 pesos for a ST. She gave me a CBJ and FS. Her skills were good and she was very pleasant.
On the fourth night, I danced with this one girl (dark skinned) for most of the evening and we went back to my hotel around 2a. Although, this girl was only average looking she was lots of fun in and out of bed. After having sex again around 10a, she invited me to her place for lunch.
We departed the hotel around 12p and headed to her place. She made a salad, cooked fish and chips. It was the best meal I had during my stay in BC. After enjoying a great lunch together, we went back to my hotel. Back at the hotel, I realized there was no discussion of money. I decided to give her 2, 500 pesos (2, 000 LT and 500 food).
To make a long story short, we spent the next two nights (LT) together and she didn't ask for money. I did pay for any food/drink/transportation we shared and I gave her another 2, 000 pesos on the morning of my depature.
In sumary, I enjoyed my first trip to Boca Chica and staying at El Candil was a good choice. El Candil is still girl friendly all you need is her cedula (ID). The credit card machine was not working during my stay so I had to pay cash. As for as the curfew, it wasn't a problem for me. Prices for the girls (SW) seem to drop at or near closing. You can easily negotiate 1, 500 pesos for LT if you wait until close.
I'm now studing a spanish course daily to be prepared for my next trip to DR in September.

Hi,
Can anyone confirm that during the week, everything is shut down at midnight?
Is this a problem in Boca Chica or life goes on in the streets or somewhere else?
Thx.
But how come so much CBJ? Was that your preference or the girls? Were any of the darker skinned girls Hatian? Who were the new owners of El Candil?Im certain the credit card machine was working. They just prefer cash. Its alway beter to pay cash anyway. Does Francisco still gaurd the door at night?
Im only inquiring because I will be back there late July. What languages do the new owners speak?

Im only inquiring because I will be back there late July. What languages do the new owners speak?
All of the girls but one initially attempted a BBBJ but I insisted on a CBJ.communicating with these girls were difficult but I'm reasonably sure none of them are hatians. The lighter girl was from Punta Cana and the darker girls said they were oringially from BC.
I saw the new owners several times during my stay but I didn't get their names. They spoke spanish to the staff and they seem to be very nice people. The manager of the property name is Alfonso. It was consistantly the same guard each night at the gate but I didn't get his name. Yeah, you are probably right about the credit card machine.
Hi,

Fortuantely, I can confirm there is always enough time after midnight to negotiate with the girls and to find something to eat. I never stayed around to see how long the action remained alive in the streets after midnight. The curfew was a none issue for me.
Is Boca Chica wearth going to now a days, been there a year and a half ago, has anything changed in that time?
Hi all,
I'm, writing as I need you help. I'm thinking for some days if to go or not to DR (Boca Chica) for 4-5 days landing to SD Airport.
I'll be alone and to tell truth I didn't understand yet if BC (and DR in general) is a place in which european spending holiday without tour operator is "safe" about general crime or not. In you opinion is dangerous for a newbie of DR? Some advice?
Thank a lot
