Cutting Edge,
Thanks for the info! If there is anything I can do to help you out with your future tropical pussy forays, please let me know.
Believe me I know how frustrating it can be to confronted with the inconveniences and challenges of a different culture, but after a while you adapt to the locals and can even become addicted to the local customs.
With respect to Iquitos, I found a nice basic room for $8 a night two blocks from the Plaza de Armas. My travelling buddy opted for a little more luxury and he found an air-conditioned, carpeted room right on the Plaza de Armas for $15. Sounds cheap to me. What can be expensive in Iquitos are the tours and lodges. They are grossly inflated due to middlemen getting commissions.
The fasinating thing about Iquitos are the women and relationships between the sexes. Iquiteñas remind me of dominican women in that they are very aggressive sexually. I actually had to turn down women (not hookers) who I met at a dance club and wanted me to take them back to my hotel. Check out my reports in the Iquitos section for more details.
But what I'm hoping, is that the women in Manaus are like those in Iquitos - independent and horny. I believe the anthropologists use the term matrilineal society as opposed to our western, male-dominated (patrilineal) society. I know it's hard for us westerners to understand these exotic cultures, but why fight it? I plan to relax, not try to change or lecture the locals on the superiority of american ways, and let these tropical cuties spoil me.

JWadd, DanDaMan, you guys rock! A good sense of humor and a little adventure with a side-order of Brazilian ass, is some of the best medicine I know of.
JWadd, I love your break down of SW (non-pros/semi-pro) and the sweet rookie nookie action, some of the other cities have to offer.
DanDaMan, sure hook-ups are fine with me. JWadd, I have your e-mail, but not sure what dates you'll be in Rio, Manaus ...etc.
I will be using a airbus pass again, and will try to check out some of the other cities on the way to Manaus. My dates aren't set yet for Manaus, but I will be in Rio Nov 14-18.
Cutting Edge, you absolutely bang-on with preloading your VISA card. That's exactly how, I've don't it for the past 3 years in Brasil. I use the Bradesco ATMs, because it recognizes an English VISA card when you put in and then comes up with English instructions.
Ciao

Hi DanDaMan,
I've read your reports on Iquitos in the Peru section and it sounds pretty good. By comparison the girls of Manaus are pretty conservative (no non-pros dragging you off to a hotel room).
Have you any links to pictures of what the girls of Iquitos look like? Do they look stereotypical Peruvian(hat and a pipe) or normal? The girls of Manaus tend to be more Indian with a bit of European thrown in.
One last point, they seem to charge the earth for renting a small boat with outboard (100USD per half day!). I had one idea of buying a small boat (motorised canoe) and taking off, stopping at settlements along the way. Once the trip was finished I'd sell it. You never know, you might get kidnapped by a tribe of sex starved Pocahontas!
TIA

Hey Cutting Edge,
Now you're getting into the adventurous spirit! Let's get that boat and see the real amazon. When I was in Iquitos, I only spent a week there which really isn't enough time to get out and explore the real indigenous communities. When I was in the northern amazon in Venezuela, I spent time with the Panares who are still living pre-columbian. The naked Pocahontas there were the most beautiful women I had ever seen. It was the most incredible experience of my life.
With respect to the typical physical type in Iquitos, they are dominated by indigenous blood, but heavily mixed with european. Not much evidence of african ancestry in Iquitos. The culture is much different than that of the Sierra of Peru - no hat or pipes. Also, the accents of Iquiteños is quite distinct and beautiful, and I have never heard anything like it in any other latin country.
For photos of Iquiteñas, browse the MS Messenger listings (http://members.msn.com/find.msnw). Filter it for Peru and Loreto. That's what I did. I met one young beauty that way (her photo was posted there - in a bikini no less); I chatted with her on Messenger. She liked to chat on Messenger about sexual fantasies. She told me her fantasy was to make love on the beach, and I teased her and told her my fantasy was making love to a bare-footed, pregnant, peasant girl. When I finally made it to Iquitos, she ended up in my bed the second time I saw her.
What about the girls in Manaus - do they have much african ancestry? I just love black girls, especially mixed with indigenous blood.
Cutting Edge, now do you understand why I am so interested in Manaus? It's a long way to go just for sex. I hope to penetrate more than just a few hookers - i.e., the culture itself.

Here's some info on economical hotels in Manaus that I got from the Lonely Planet Guide to South America.
Hotels:
Hotel Rio Ideal (92-622-0058), Rua dos Andradas 491 $9 for singles with breakfast included ($13 with AC).
Hotel Rio Branco (92-233-4019), Rua dos Andradas 484. $6 for singles ($12 with AC).
Pensao Sulista (92-234-5814), Avenida Joaquim Nabuco 347. $9 for singles ($20 with AC).
Hotel Continental (92-233-3342), Rua Coronel Sergio Pessoa 189. $17 for singles.
Hospedaria de Turismo 10 de Julho (92-232-6280), Rua 10 de Julho 679. $15 for singles (includes breakfast).
The hotel situation seems much better than Cutting Edge indicated and no need to spend 200 - 400 reals on a hotel room.

Hey guys,
I finally got to a place i can write securely, Here is my rundown on Manaus. I was referred to Hotel Diplomatica, $R50/night, has air, TV, not the greatest place, girl friendly breakfast included, but then again why are you in Manaus?
This message is in response to the discussion of non-pro free action that popped up on this board awhile ago on this board.
This post is also limited to those seeking quick free hook-ups. This is just my experience but I hooked up in every city for fre and also had some pro-action to compare to.
I think now it is better to just pay for it and not have the headaches. I thought before I came down, it would be great to hook up with all the non-pro talent, but I have come to find out and prove what others have already known, the garotas never just give it up for anything. Sure they love to f**k and are true queens, but there is always a priceI found out, again. I have got myself into some complicated situations in Brazil, big boyfriend s of girls that were willing to take a whirl, etc.
I love the Brazilan culture and people, but lets face it, in a different country, tghe odds are against us having quick seductions in succession without serious consequences. The girl I was so happy to get never told me that all the while I was courting her she had a huge boyfriend within view.. She thougght she could talk it away, another Brazilan aquaintance told me otherwise.
I have been successful at non-pro stuff, but then again I am fairly good-looking and look way younger than my years, and I can talk enough for down here.
But in hindsight as I leave Manaus and Brazil in general, I think it is easier to just pay for it and know all the costs up front. I was deluded in thinking somehow that non-pro action was just better here in S.America in general.
Fact is I was looking for lots of action and not headaches. I got less action and more headaches trying to do the traditional route down here. Many guys already know what I found out the hard way.
Dan and others?has written about the values of learning the language with non-pro action. Sure, that is true, but only to a point. If you are looking for quick hookups, lots of other foreigners have tried the same, even in small towns, the locals have the cards in their hands in getting the best out of the situation ,even if you speak the language.
For those of you looking for love, not saying its not there, but it why is a garota going to give it up for free when she has real issues.
Semi-pro action is great, but if you were looking for something for nothing, like I was, be warned.
Again, this post is old info for lots of guys and is only written for those who like I, wanted to get all the free hookups for bonus points to their ego, like me.
Room service in Manaus was about $70R, thank you for other posters that kept me in line with going prices, and yes, I did not go above it and ruin the market. This is the deal, not the free stuff.
One last thing, DO NOT TAKE LONELY planet guide seriously. Only use it for a few of the city maps. Having used it I get the feeling these drunk giddy girls were pressed for time to throw some kind of guide out, but its real value is negligible. I only liked the street maps and the basic descriptions of the city. Taxi drivers were way better sources of info on hotels. The book is in my view a way overhyped piece of crap book series for S. America with respect to hotels. Also, do not use Green Planet Tours for river trip, I got F**ked. My free garota costs me time in Manaus I can´t easily replace and I was in a hurry and got myself into another bad situation because I put myself in a whole.

I have been getting some obnoxious emails lately and wanted to publicly respond.
Remember you represent your country when you travel abroad. When a hostile American visits a place like Manaus, the locals will think that all Americans are spoiled and obnoxious. Ugly Americans make it difficult for the rest of us.
It is common sense that pros can be very dangerous. Personally, I prefer amateur action to getting robbed and possibly injured by pros or their associates. To each their own, but I recommend non-pros not only because it gives you a chance to help out decent and honest girls, but gives you an opportunity to enjoy the local culture.
The beauty of the internet and this forum is freedom. Freedom to express my opinion, write what ever I want and even post any emails that I receive.
Sorry for the hidden flames, but I'm getting a little tired of the obnoxious emails I have been receiving and the damage that is being done to the group. We should be helping each other, not exchanging insults.
If I can help anyone with anything, please write me at [blue][/blue].

I find it interesting as an American living in Manaus to read some of the posts.
There are hundreds of places you can go to pick up women. Any bar, any restaurant, any street has women of different social classes available.
The call girls are usually found at nicer places like Felitice, Hotel Tropical, etc and from what I have been told, do not charge a lot.
If you take a woman back to the hotel with you, make sure she registers. The hotel will make you pay a fee, but they also write down her ID number which, unlike in the USA, is needed for almost every purchase, every event, etc that a Brazilian does in Brazil. With the ID number, the person should be found throughout the country.
There are other places, like Flutuante da Tia, which is not well known, but is filled with women. It is a floating bar, this bathing suits are required, and all else goes.
-
Hey Manaus, I like your insight into mongering in Manaus. Personally, Manaus really grow on me and I soon found this city to be a "rough jewel in the jungle".
Can you tell me where to find Felitice and Flutuante da Tia (the floating bar)? These places sounds wild man!
Also what are the best malls for picking up garotas?
Ciao

The flutuante da Tia is located near Ponta Negra. It is along the same road as the churascaria Touro Loco and the motel Aphrodites. You stay along this road, going past the airport runway. Up at the top of a sorta hill, on your left, you will see a hut like restaurant. It is next to one of the u-turn or turning areas. You take this road until the fork, and then bear right. go to the end, and turn right, and at the end of the next road, turn left.
Fellites is located in the Studio 5 festival mall. ANy taxi and almost every person can tell you how to get there.
I should start a tour company since people have been wanting info.

Oh, no, not another broke ass gringo looking for a way to pay his way in Brasil...
Fellice, Tropical are high class joints disco/bars of upper class Brasilians with imported european sports cars parked outside. Why would a girl want to go with some old fat tourist who speaks no Portuguese when her boyfriend drives a BMW? Its strange that you have only been told that the *****s are cheap! Haven't you actually found any there yourself? If you are so in with the info, how come you can't even spell the name correctly?
FYI, Manaus is more expensive than Rio, ie a Big Mac is 30% more there(The Economist uses it as a yardstick). The trade free zone ensures that there is near full employment, girls just don't need to ***** there. There are no termas, virtually nobody speaks English.
And all that ""you can get any girl on any street"" crap doesn't wash anymore. I rememeber a few years back when some guy reckoned that every girl in Rio Sul Shopping was available for 50USD. More BS from some guy trying to sell something!
What gets me is that creeps like you are prepared to send guys on a 10,000 mile wild goose chase just so you can make a few $$$. I hear the Policia Federal take a very dim view of gringos setting up illegal prostitution rackets!

Manaus is a real fun city. There is an excellent nightlife, specially on weekends. When looking for working-girls there are plenty of options. Avoid the streetworking girls in the center.
There are several quite fancy stripclubs, Kilds etc. Prices are not low. But in my opinion the absolut best choice and only place you need is Remulus, right in the center of Manaus. It's absolutely wild and crazy! A little bit rough place with mainly brazilians. Cheap beers and loads of women. Lots of really goodlooking girls and a bunch of ugly ones as well. Non-stop striptease. Free to touch but you may get slapped if you stick your finger in. Good fun watching the tabledances, for 10 reais. Just go ahead and try some licking etc.
To go upstairs to a room (clean and nice) for some fun may cost from 40 reais for 40 minutes, including the room, depending on your portuguese and on the girl. Normally they ask for 60 reais.
The alternative (not tried) cost 15 reais. Then you enter a small dirty room for a super-quick-time. You can be with the girl during the time they play 2 songs. then they open up the door.
You can also choose to bring the girl to your hotel.
The place is one of my favorites in Brazil.
As a gringo it could be a good advice to keep a bit low profile in Remulus not showing of a lot of money.
-
Cutting Edge, maybe you are correct in your assumptions about "yet another broke ass gringo looking for a way to pay his way in Brasil...". Unless you know someones character for certain, simply let each man determine and come to their own conclusions.
The beauty of having freedom of throught and having a modicum of intelligence is that you get to formulate your own decisions.
Granted alot of what said on WSG maybe bullshit, however most people with a degree of intelligence can read between the lines and determine for themselves what we believe to be true, or at the very least have some degree of truth.
I for one, take everything "with a grain of salt". I have a curious and adventurous nature, so naturally I have a "see/try for myself" attitude, when it comes to most things.
I value all information here at WSG and have learnt to find the value in many of what guys say at WSG. But realize from different points of view, it doesn't always translate to the same thing for everyone.

Hi Spidy,
OK, you've been there as well so you know what I'm talking about. This guy describes a bar on a boat near Ponta Negra, then gives very ambiguous directions up past the airport. This isn't near Ponta Negra, its a 42R$+ taxi ride from Ponta Negra! Thats a 84R$ round trip for some tout to pocket.
It turns out that 'Flutuante da Tia' is a fish restaurant in the jungle next to the river! What a disappointment! In their ad they state 'the difficulty of access is compensated for by the view of the river'. You can call them on 9994 6708, notice its a cell line, they are so remote for anything else.
To suggest that you can pick up women in ANY bar, restaurant or street is ludicrous. Any guy going there is in for major disappointment if he believes this!
I actually doubt this guy is American like he states, his basic use of English suggests otherwise.
I also thought spamming/touting for business was not allowed on this board.

Hey Cutting Edge,
I like your second post on this subject much better. Very factual, concise and clear as to where this place is ACTUALLY is located. Thanks for your feedback. I think it is a lot clearer to everyone now!
By having your factual knowledge presented, now allows anyone who may read the "bullshit" certain members may spout, to make their own determination, as to its authenticity.
Besides, heaven knows I've streched my version of things a little from time to time. Just a little! ;-)
