hi,
my mongering friends from moscow!
i "have" to spend a week in march, in moscow and will stay at the hotel baltschug.
do you know about problems, if you want to bring a girl, especially a freebie?
or is it like the ee radisson sas hotels, where the security guy only wants his peace of the cake?
thank you!
both in kempinsky and radisson you must meet the girl dounstairs and take her out. then you don't have to pay security.
Hello everybody,
I live in Moscow and I can give you some advices.
As for me, I prefer mature and older women (to see www.intimcity.ru,
www.ston.ru, www.putana.nu, www.sextalk.ru - there are real reports about girls).
Good luck.
You living here? How it could happen that we never met? Or have we? :)
Does anyone know what places are good for picking up girls in Moscow? Is Boar House still popular? I would like to avoid tourist spots if possible.
CaT: Ooh, that's very good to hear. I'm getting all tingly inside. Starting this year I will be switching away from Moscow though and spending more time in the Ukraine. After checking out your and Doc's little private party in the Odessa forum it I really want to start my own Odessa file. Maybe I can catch at least one EU town before it's all been spoiled.
First off, at the moment, there are lots of empty hotel rooms in Moscow due to the extreme cold, although it is true that there will be a deficit when things warm up.
Secondly, most VISA cards do get blocked for use in Russia, this is virtually automatic now. You need to call your credit card/debit card company, using the telephone number on the back, and ask for the "fraud prevention" department, to which you will be transferred (you should do this before leaving the USA obviosuly). Tell them the dates you will be in Russia, and to unblock your card.
Since they may re-block it at any time, carry multiple cards to avoid embarassment.
Yes! That's not just with Visa either. I had pretty much everything blocked on me. While fleetingly annoying, it's really very comforting.
However, I wouldn't recommend bringing extra cards "just in case". On the contrary, after a series of blocks I stopped bringing any cards to Russia except my ATM card. I fill all the remaining slots in my wallet with expired Gold and Platinum cards so it doesn't look silly when I open it in front of a dyev. I never felt particularly comfortable using credit cards in Russia anyway, after I had a bunch of unauthorized charges put on my cards after a visit to St Petersburg in 2003.
Two weeks ago, before the extreme cold weather, I also tried to use visa credit card and Mastercard card to withdraw Rubles and Dollars. But both cards had to be blocked.
When I talked with my bank, they said that lately there had been too many ATM frauds happened in Moscow. Therefore to protect the customers, international banks and card services blocked most of the cards when they were used in ATM'S in Moscow.
They also suspected that bank employees were part of it. Not only I was warned about the ATM, they also warned for "double post machines". Some customer's credit cards had been doubled in fancy resturants.
"CASH IS KING"....QUATED IN NF
I had similar problems too in 2002, now I solved them using a Master Card (I have a five digit PIN) only in some ATMs.
The ones from Seberbank Rossii (wrong spelling I know...) and from the ATM which is in the Delta lounge of Izmailovo Hotel...
I never use the shop or metro ATMs, where it's easy to put recording systems and cameras for taking the PIN.
Other ATMs not to be used are the ones at the arrival at SVO 2 terminal. I have seen guys trying to look at you when composing the PIN (!) and then surely taking in some way an alectronic copy of your CC, or direcly from your wallet!.
By the way I never use a CC in a bar, shop or restaurant (Elisevsky or Gastronom n° 1 as you like to call it excluded).
If you need cash bring it from home, or get in a bank (a reliable one) with CC, Passport, visa and registration, and preferably another ID (some asked me for two) ad get your RUR. It will cost you 3-4 %, but it's totally safe.

In previous visits, I had no problems in cash withdraw from Finansbank and Citibank.
I prefer to use Bank ATM's for several reasons as IT mentioned.
Once I had late lunch at Hard Rock Cafe in Arbat. I asked check and gave my credit card. They brought someone else platinum express card with my credit card. I was stupidly honest, that's why I called the shift manager and gave him the card.
Since than I only use cash.

IT
I'm also interested in the services of this woman and would appreciate any feedback on how it worked for you.
Hi,
from my expierence I never had any problem to get cash in Russia with VISA card. I use german one supplied by LUFTHANSA or the one supplied by my bank. I dont know if the mentioned problem only for in America issued cards appears. Since Russian authorithies still in big love with with american basics.
ATM's I use are only from Western Bank's like Citibank or USB
I use the CC also to pay in restaurant but only in places I know since Years.
Knocking on wood in the past 10 Years no problems...
Cheers
