Take US currency with you. Most places accept US dollars. The exchange rate is 500+ colones to the dollar. Take a small calculator if you want to be exact or just divide by 500 or tell the guy...

You could try further south to Quepos or way north to Flamingo beach.

I've never had a long wait in the exit tax fee line. Most of the time it has been walk right up and pay. $26 bucks 6 months ago when I went.

TACA is my favorite. They got the best food and the best looking stewardesses IMO.

JR's is decent. Comparable pricing as US. Around the corner from SL, close to the zoo.

Hopefully you are somewhat fluent in Espanol, have a decent bank account and have many exploratory trips under your belt. The average tico worker in CR brings in about $300-$500 a month.

I was in Quepos last year for about 4 days.
I rented a 3 bedroom house for about $100 a day. Great investment.
Cooked all meals in the large kitchen.

3 of the 4 had problems in their past. They were obviously targeted for a reason. Not innocent victims IMO. They rolled the dice and lost big time.

Jacos is the closest and the worst beach from San Jose. It is about 2 hours from town. If you want clean beaches your looking at an additional couple of hours North or South of Jaco. Quepos is decent...

Stay in San Diego and take the trolley down to the border. Keep valuables in a safe at the hotel. Make use of taxis after crossing the border. Do research on this site before going.

Assman, if you are familiar with CR, no problem. If you don't know your way around, book a room. SL just opened up their new mansion side, if you don't mind payin $100+ for a room.
