This was so long ago, that I don't know if it is still relevant today. But I remember for some reason I wanted to or had to buy a sim card and get load as I exited the airport (can't remember, but probably because I wanted to update a girl or girls I was meeting so that they could get on there way and we could meet faster as opposed to getting to the hotel and then buying my sim and texting the girl (s). Could save me a few hours). I purchased the sim and the remainder of 1000 pesos for load, figuring that it should last me a good part of a week and I could always add load later. Had them install it and add the load, he showed me the balance of 900 something load and I paid him and left. After a couple of days I ran out of load? I know I was texting a lot of girls, but still that was a bit fast. Did some research and found out that when texting different networks, it cost more but at that time it still wouldn't have burned up my load. Came to the conclusion that they sold me load that had a short life (cheaper for them to buy) so my load expired before I used them.

All prepaid load now has a validity of 12 months regardless of value. I'm pretty sure that's from activation on a phone rather than manufacture date of the plastic card. I'd expect cards issued at the telco kiosks to be very fresh but yes, in remote areas, it is something to watch for. Previously it could be as low as a couple of days for low value top ups.

Girls will often ask what network you are on and give you the corresponding number as, depending on what package you / they are using calls and SMS across networks can be significantly more expensive than intranetwork. SMS on the same network are typically only free or 1 p each. Larger packages do offer free SMS to all networks.

Some things to watch out for: girls love to chat so a meaningless SMS conversation can eat low value load if you are not aware of your pricing; it's very easy to send load to another phone so if a girl is using yours she could be sending your load to hers quite quickly without your knowledge. A.

Generally I've found I use SMS less and less as chat apps like WhatsApp etc become more popular.

It is much easier to just add load via the internet a day or so before you travel. Depending upon which service you use, it may cost a little bit extra for the convenience, but it is worth it. It has been many years since I have physically purchased load, as it is much more convenient for me to just add from my laptop or phone.

What is important to remember is to avail the promo, otherwise your load will disappear fast.

Good question for sure, there is another way, not sure if its simpler but.

When you are on a Phil forum, scroll up to find the path Home Forum - Asia - The Philippines - General Info or whatever else.

Then clic on Asia.

Then scroll down all asian countries and forums, you will see 3 Phil forums, with the Cebu one.

You need to go to the main Asis forum list. Cebu has a stand alone forum separate to The Philippines.
