Yes, I've been there several times. The city is not generally considered very dangerous, though it doesn't offer much in the way of Western amenities. Most of the potential danger lies a big further West toward Marawi City. I'the have no qualms about going there again, but the other posters are, I think, correct: bring the girl to CDO which has much more to offer the average Westerner than does Iligan. It's not a long bus trip. I recommend not listening to fear mongers who in general have no idea what they're talking about.

Another point is it is very safe up there. The main terrorist areas are not up north of Mindanao, but rather in the south and SW. I was in CDO in Feb. 2020 and felt super safe.

Terrorism happens randomly. If you happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time then you are the victim. Cannot be avoided even in big western cities.

In Philippines not all western men get kidnapped even in terrorism prone areas. For them it takes a long time to plan, target, scout, carry out the operation. For a casual visitor threat is very low.

If someone is scared of going next best thing is to bring the girl to where you are. I have brought many mindanao girls to Manila and Cebu. This has to be planned carefully. Need some work. Even then things can fall apart. Since flight tickets are cheap it is no big loss if the girl fails to show up.

Ignoring the Covid considerations. You could do yourself a favour and fly tita and the girl to Cebu. You continue to enjoy your time in Cebu chasing LBFM and enjoying life, while they can catch buses, jeepneys, missed connection, un-aircon shit airport terminals, crap airline service, hourly health questionnaires probes etc etc If you do get a message that they actually arrive at Mactan, you have 1-2 hours while they get from airport to city. You change from your monger hotel to your alternate hotel.

For $200 you save yourself 2-3 days of pain.

Given you current location this is somewhat of a hypothetical as you can't travel anywhere (and if you could it is unlikely you could back in a hurry even if you wanted to), Aussies are currently barred from the Philippines and by the time you get there she will be older, had a few pinoys and tita maybe 6 ft under.

The advantage of using WA on a dual sim or with a number liked Hushed is once you register the number on WA, you can turn off the sim and still use WA via wifi or data. I actually had that issue once when I had a US prepaid sim in a phone I had bought and used it for WA and then I got another phone and realized I couldn't use that same number again since it was no longer active. But I had been using the app with no problems with it turned off, just couldn't reload.

Just don't try to do a reinstall from backups as you won't have access to the original number to receive the unlock key.

I had that problem when I had a burner number on a dual SIM phone. Fine for receiving calls on either number, but too many times I would make calls without switching over. Quickly went back to having two phones, but the burner has permanent call forwarding to my normal phone.

On my legit phone I have my legit number on Whatsapp and my 'burner' number of WA Business app. Functionality wise they are identical function for me. Means I don't need to access my physical burner phone once I have registered the number to WA Business app.
