I see 70K as a very small amount. Theres the cost of a car and its upkeep, other transportation (vacations), medical, food and drinks, nights out, golf?, clothing, etcetc. The list of things that we actually spend money on is quite long.

I really see this as much too small to live on, especially as the older we get, the less we are able to generate funds. My conservative estimates states I need at least 10 times that amount. And yes I relaise we all have different needs.

There is a contracted pilot for the US govt in a military installation who had a filipina wife, divorced but they have a daughter. He put land and a mango plantation in the daughters name. He is still working for years and years to supplement the farm, and family and such. His plans sound same as yours but he never so far has been able to retire and he does have a large plantation and they do sell a lot.

I tried at least 10 drug stores asking for sleeping pills, they had never heard of Exedrin PM, Simply Sleep. They only had some useless herbal shit. Just get one of those bottles of 50 pills from Wallmart. No way on the Xanax even with with a prescription from a doctor in Davao, I could not buy any in Manila. I had to visit the doctors office in Manila, it was cheap, but took 4 hours.

I always get my dentist work done in Manila. The money I save on the crowns alone pays for the airfare. Not sure about the tooth whitening. The prices looked high in Manila because they use the same equipment as the US. There are many dental sites online from Manila.

1) Drugs - not officially - you need a scrip. You can get antibiotics and many other drugs without, but definitely not sleeping pills, at least at large franchises such as Mercury and Generic Drug. A small, neighborhood pharmacy just might supply you without a scrip but it would be hit and miss and would involve trying a few.

2) I find that there are some good dentists in The Philippines but a lot of substandard ones (often quaintly called lady dentists as most are female here). Most of the work I have had done locally has been pretty shoddy and not lasted so I tend to wait until I hit Thailand for dental work where the standards are much higher. Saying that, if you just required some cosmetic work, you could safely get that done here but I believe it is cheaper in Thailand.

3) Get your tailoring done in Bangkok. The prices and quality are much better. I recommend Max Tinos on the second floor of Panthip Plaza. I have had my shirts made there for over twenty years anf the quality and service is second to none.
