I've been living in PI (MNL) for only a few months now, so still on a steep learning curve...therefore I could use a few expert minds to answer a couple of questions:

Situational Question
Was bar hopping on Burgos the other nite with a couple mates and ended up in Dimples. As soon as I walk in, I spot a lovely lass dancing, who also spots me. Eyes meet, smiles... before I know it she is at my side. I buy her a few drinks, we chat, she's a total sweetie, and is very, very friendly. Lots of making out, fondling, whispering of sweet nothings, etc. At one point she excuses herself to go to the loo, and when she comes back she stuffs a crumpled bit of tissue in my hand, and whispers, 'don't tell mama-san, not allowed'. It's her phone number. So later, after I go home (alone), I give a little 'nice to meet u. u are sweet, I want 2 c u again' text. Since then, many texts back and forth, with her texting me every day, telling me 'i really want to make luv to u, u are so nice guy, pls can i c u on thurs my day off'. So, we have a plan for her to come over to my place on thurs. Now, here's the question: Given the above... do I pay her, and if so how much? I know she's saving me a big bar fine, so I have no problem paying her (also it's just before x-mas and extra money would definitely be useful for these gals), but not exactly sure if she is expecting to be paid. I was thinking of discreetly putting 2000 or 3000p in her bag and telling her that it's to buy a few presents for her family. Any thoughts?

So, my question: Does that mean simply and generically, 'I hope you will give me a good pounding', or is 'hard fucker' some kind of filipina code for something more specific?

Manta not a long term expat but coming up on two years. Anyway man working girl or not I always give them money. That money I can spend in one or two nights just on drinks goes a long way. It does nothing to improve their lives in the long run but in the short… things can be bought, visits to doc, meds, and gifts for themselves or relatives that previously maybe wasn't possible.

There is no way you should contemplate engaging in any form of sexual activity with anyone under the age of 18. Prisons in the Philippines are not nice places and thats where you might conceivably be heading. Don't be foolish , there wont be friendly faces digging you out of holes you create for yourself so dont go there.

Am getting a lot of requests from my little chat mates for "what is my Christmas gift?". My response that "i can't offer anything now, but when I see you I will bring you something nice" doesn't go over well. A couple of girls have logged off right after I say that lol. You know, its always I am hungry now...I can't think of later.

My work takes me to many poor and crime infested areas but there is one constant... the Temples, mosques, or Churches (depending on the location) sure as shit got cash. Even in my home country the one with the biggest power is the religion not the govt (but it's not catholic). I see more funds flowing freely to religion in poor countries then I do see in developed ares but yes I spend most my time in under developed countries.

The poor seem to think of religion as eternal salvation, life insurance, a type of betting (paying / praying / donating for better lives etc...).

Some very good points made about the Catholic church.

I would think that rising incomes, to a certain extent, would in fact be a blessing for the church -- more donations. In fact, I would not be surprised if much of the money going to the Vatican is coming from the developed world.

My GF (if you call a 19 year old you fuck silly a GF) does it and if she misses a day she is scared as all hell. As posted if they hit every mass then they are supposed to have good luck and her Christmas Wish will come true. She's done this every year that she can remember.

What sucks is when she leaves my bed to go to this fucking mass. She atleast is well trained enough to drain me once before going and after returning. But like typical Filipina style she is in fear of the church but has no issue on going without condom and is very into bondage and open for bisexuality... anything to keep a "man" so go figure.

Philippines is a strange place to try to figure out atleast for me.

In other places it is even 3am mass. It is a tradition when Christmas is nearning (Cultural). It is called "Simbang Gabi". Some people have this notion that if they go to Mass it is good luck, or there wish would come true.

The big problems in The Philippines are the three C's, namely Church, Corruption and Cronyism. All 3 deeply pervade the Pinoy psyche and affect their lives on a day to day basis [. ]

Corruption is rooted so deeply in this country that even the institutions of the church are corrupt. Their political important endorsement is up for sale as well, explaining their astonishing swings of opinion when taking sides during the times of uprising over the last decades. Only in the Philippines you can bribe an association of nuns. And even more amazingly it will make a difference with the masses in the streets when those corrupt nuns declare their public support for whatever.

Things like the latter are very well possible, although last time I witnessed something alike was during the time of the late strongman, when power was still true power. You don't have to believe a word of a random guy on the net, however in case you want to hear it. I'm deeply entrenched in the most upscale elite circles of the Philippines since more than 25 years, capitalizing on it businesswise since about 12. While cronyism and connections are indeed indispensable for business success there is a deep misunderstanding about the process not only among foreigners but among a lot of the locals as well. Knowing "the man" is one part, but even in the Philippines for a successful project at some point somebody has to do some actual work, and that's where it is usually severely lacking. I can recall odysseys that started sitting together with a Cabinet Member, him bullishly calling an important Senator who will enthusiastically take care of the stubborn Mayor. And there it goes in circles and leads nowhere. The amount of incompetence of many politicians and business elite heirs to do anything beyond a phone call even (and especially) in their own areas of influence is indeed mind-boggling. There are only a few great exceptions.

The layer of Filipino "connection parasites" or "commissioners" below that is even worse. The people that bring you to people that is. Many of them carry the names of influential families themselves but have neither power nor funds of their own (these are vast families after all) and believe merely arranging a meeting with the guy that is supposed to be in charge entitles them to a 15% kickback like the big shots. The belief of getting rich with a single phone call (or a few at most) is widespread and people wonder why it hasn't worked out so far despite them "knowing someone" or multiple someones.

And at last people grossly overestimate their own capabilities and influence on decision makers. Yep, even if it's true that this Senator owes his election to that Filipino and has been his personal best friend ever since, he may still not be following that guy's persuasions. When you find out you usually have already wasted a lot of time, maybe worse. You'll only know what your connections are worth once you call them in.

And then sometimes it miraculously just works. That's life over there.

But there is a monkey form of HIV. It is called Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) and is much older than HIV.
