I have met some great guys on ISG and we have shared private contacts and I have also told a lot of guys about ISG.
It is all about respect. Respect is not given, it is earned.

Posts: 4567Yes, D'etat has contacted me directly via pm. He often sounds very logical in the beginning but then veers off to some indirect insult (or sarcasm) in the latter part. I appreciate his pm because he is trying to communicate with me, but often what he says in PM is so different from what he says here public.
I'm not trying to drag out any animosity, but my recollection is that I was called an ass. Yes, an "ASS". I responded to that in a way I thought was rather tame. But now D'etat presents a completely different scenary which seems to imply that I am the aggressor.
Warbucks / D'etat / Illogic.....what did I do wrong? someone calls me a name and I responded.
Yea, we can meet. Ummm, you in Dubai and I'm in Tokyo. Shall I give you my address?

In any event it has been going on since I have been on this board with little sign of abating. Not worth wasting valuable time or mental energy on IMHO. Ignore filters are helpful..
I just buried my dad in May (melanoma) and last week my stepfather has just been given 4 months to live (pancreatic cancer). Sure makes you conscious not to waste your life on responding to trolling...

Having some limited, and vicarious experience with what happens when expats "get physical" in public, I strongly suggest that none of you even consider it, whether with other expats or with the locals. This opens the door for lots of misery and there's just no upside. Kick back, enjoy the life here and what it has do offer, and whether you're 25 or 75, don't let the insults made in cyberspace by faceless people disturb your tranquillity. It's not worth it and they who would taunt others from the quiet safety of their computer screens aren't worth anything more than a little contempt.

But a monger fight we have yet to see. Actually, most mongers seem to shit their pants and runaway instead of going toe to toe with the local ladyboys. This is what a monger fight looks like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WySPFDW2pfQ

the reason i don’t call out guys indirectly as i told x via pm because i don’t enjoy flame wars. it disturbs the board and creates an overall unsatisfactory atmosphere which the admin has to come and correct because a bunch of adult males can’t get along on a virtual forum kind of sad when you think about. not as sad though as guy in “golden years” who get a rush out of arguing behind a keyboard.
the guys that do i suspect enjoy flame wars are so cowardly and weak in real life so they get some type of excitement out of bothering people here. when i am 52 and have a family i hope i am not spending my “golden years” arguing with some guy i never met over the internet.
i have opened the door for this one guy in particular to meet in real life because i am just tired of the back and forth here but he said no need as this is all fantasy so we can say what we want to say here with no repercussions. spoken like a true internet tough guy.

he sent me a pm criticizing me for hanging out with the criminals i grew up around in my american slum but yet he looks for 1000php virgins in china town, rides jeepneys to feel up unsuspecting filipinas and uses la café girls as urinals. :)
i may be a masochist but i actually enjoy traveling on public transport. it must be the close proximity of all those lovely young pinays. i have, on two memorable occasions, even 'trapped' on jeepneys. it is easy when you have some young lovelies body almost draped over you, to strike up casual conversation. and the girls who use jeepneys are the 'poor' girls, shopgirls, maids etc, who often would just love to meet wealthy foreigners.
the next step up is fx's which involves an even tighter squeeze, but i have stopped using these, as, a couple of years ago, i suspect i caught whooping cough on one of them. too many people in an enclosed space.

The shop is located on Perimeter Rd. A couple of buildings down from the Cottage Kitchen, and in the attached photo, the shop cannot be seen, but the sign can be seen in the upper right corner of the pic.

Posts: 4567Yes, sarcasm is "a form of humor". Just calling people names, as you do, is not sarcasm since there is no attempt at humor.
But what do you call humor when someone writes somethig so ludicrous that it's funny? What do you call that?
Once again you allude to some other person (enemy) that you leave unnamed. That type of post is what I would call pointless, mean-spirited, disingenuous.
The tone of my PMs? If you don't like it, stop sending me pm's. X

Many thanks to those who replied to my request a few weeks ago about how to open a bank account here. I have now relocated to Manila and have been here for 3 weeks. Here's what happened re trying to open an acct:
I arrived here with the 59 day tourist visa; I'll be here a year, so will renew the visa every 2 months. Having begun my search for an apartment to rent, I quickly discovered the ubiquitous request for post-dated checks to cover the entire lease period. That meant needing a checking acct.
I went to Citibank, BDO, Metro, and BPI, all without luck. They all basically told me one of two things: I need an ACR card, and/or I must have a savings acct with them for at least three months before they would allow me to open a checking acct.
So then I went to HSBC, Makati branch. Different story altogther: They were very willing to open an acct for me immediately, no problem. They did not demand that I be resident in Phil. So, I walked out in 45 minutes with two accts (Peso and USD), a VISA debit/ATM card, and a checkbook. The only requirement was that I have to maintain a balance of 100, 000 pesos (in both accts combined). They were extremely pleasant and accommodating in every way.
HSBC does seem to have the right motto: The world's local bank!
