This is a good restaurant Nightrider. Have eaten here before (with GE some times) and never been disappointed. Am not an alcohol lover so ant vouch g=for the wine list except it looked good. But the food is tasty and the steaks excellent.

Yes, the owner has been a close friend for years. In my opinion, DBK has the best steaks in Davao, and it's the only place I know of in which to get a real baked potato. The menu is huge and varied and the emphasis is on well-prepared Western comfort-type food. For those who might have difficulty finding the place, it's on Rizal St diagonally across the street from a Metrobank.

Heading back to the Peoples Park area there are also several massage shops that will help you work of the additional calories 😁.

I was on the 16th floor of a high rise in Mexico City when 'the big one" struck there decades ago. There were no sirens, no announcements, and no instructions of any kind disseminated by the hotel. Don't look for anything different here.

As to DS, I'm glad to report that each of his kids now has a US Passport and a a financial settlement. I won't go into details as to how this happened, but in the end, they were at least partially taken care of.

This was not my first trip to Davao, and I am fairly well travelled, so honestly, I had no expectations as to what should have happened.

What I asked at the front desk, is what should have happened, and they told me what they do in the event of a quake. They failed to follow their own procedures.

So, now I know what to do.

Also, my day job, is very much linked to People not doing what they should be doing. So I am a bit of a Process Geek, Troubleshooter, and Coach.

Glad to head DS's children have been looked after.

I was back in Davao last week, and after a few days in Cebu, I was back at the Marco Polo. I always raise a glass to DS, despite never meeting him.

What was more concerning was the 6. 5 quake that morning, as we were on the 15th Floor, the building shaked a lot, with a lot of swaying.

My GF who lives in Davao, was very scared, I was not.

We relaxed a bit, and then I looked out of the window, to see that the Security Guards had locked down access to the hotel, and with a few more light wobbles I decided to evacuate down the stairs.

What followed is a completely unacceptable discovery that the Earthquake response at the MP, failed in potentially very serious ways.

There was no Alarm, there was no Voice Evacuation message, there was no phone call to the room. There should have been.

I had a couple of conversations with the Front Desk over this, and to be honest, I probably would not return to the MP, they failed in their duty to alert guests in my view.

Also, as an aside, there was a Siren test at the resort we stayed at in Cebu. We were outside at the pool when the test was supposed to occur, never heard that also.

There have been quite a few significant quakes in Davao recently. Perhaps signs the Volcano may be waking.

Most workers are on 6 months contracts and back out on the streets looking for a new job. Employers do not bother training staff. They would have to train new staff members every 6 months.

Disaster plans? Yes, everyone is on their own.

If you find yourself out the 6th story window looking for fire truck hook and ladder? Better to start tying bed sheet together for at least 5 stories!
