I always stay near people's park as there is lots to see, eat and do within walking distance and many landmarks that are easy for the girls to find. Lots of street walkers at night too but you would be scraping the bottom of the barrel to try them.

I was thinking to rent an apartment in coastal area of Davao in front of Samal island. I mean not far from Samal Ferry Wharf. Do you know if it is a safe and nice area? Are there some nice beaches in that coastal area of Davao? I thank you.

These are just my perceptions obviously. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, it might be awesome for you. But I'll just try to help you play the tape through. I'm no expert but I've been around there many many times, but not since the birth of the Bio-security Age a couple years ago.

This area isn't the worst place in the Philippines to stay but let's examine why you would want to. There was a highly esteemed board member that has forgotten more about Davao than I will never know, and he stayed in this area the last time I saw him in Davao. I suppose because he wanted easy access to Samal.

I lived in Davao for about seven years, and the biggest problem I ever had was accessing nice beach. Every apartment I ever had I could look out my window and see Samal. My last place was ridiculous, I was on the 19th floor and had 180 sea view. I could see the sand at Kaputian, and the beautiful strip of sand beach at Isla Bonita, Talikud. Probably the most beautiful strip of white sand I've seen in the Philippines. My girlfriend would say "look daddy, it's low tide". You could tell by how much white was visible. If I had a powered hang glider or a helicopter I could be there in 10 minutes. Or even a speedboat. I thought about buying one of them local-type boats and keeping it on the river, or rigging up a bamboo raft and powering it with my motobike using a paddle tire. The only other way to get to Kaputian / Talikud from downtown is overland. First you have to get to the area you are talking about, all the way to the north, and that can be a nightmare with the usual traffic. Then you have to cross the channel on a barge, then traverse Samal all the way back to the south, just to get to what I can see out my window. I also thought about renting another place on the island, but that runs up the budget.

So back to your area. Most of the shit (literally) in the horrible water along the Davao coast comes out of the Davao River. So if the wind is north, like it is half the year (from the north), that area you are talking about, you could theoretically go in the water. I have done it. You can find Davao Beach Club on the map, and all around that Sasa area there are a bunch of so-called resorts. But it's really just a rocky beach with no sand and no water. (Unless it's high tide).

So. . Those places are locals only. A few families in the rock huts singing vidioke, and eating food they brought from their house. (Bring your ball pen, you might see something you like). If you want to find any better beach, now you have to get on that barge. That might not be too much of a hassle, and it dumps you off at Campland. But you might want to look at a satellite map of Campland. The beach is about 100 m long and it's like a containment area, and it might not be more than 4 feet deep. You can make your way over to Paradise. But brace yourself. Going there once actually caused me to leave the Philippines. Haha. I think it was the first time I went. They have their own boats, you can look it up and find where they shuttle from in Sasa. I get there, and there's no water. (Well, it's 100 m away and 1 foot deep). The guy says "Sir. 3 o'clock the water will be back". Haha. I swear, I'm not fucking with you. It's mostly broken dead coral (dynamite fishing, and anchor drag) with some sand. There's jetties all over to hold the sand. And a buoy line a hundred meters or so out to block the debris from washing up.

So anyway, you can explore around that part of Samal, which is about the worst part of the island, but there are some decent places like Blue Jazz. Just check the tide chart first. But how are you going to do that, on a paid tricycle? I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but this is what to expect. There's other parts of the island that are beautiful, and we can get into that, where some better beaches are.

That's if everything is normal. It's kind of fucked up on a good day. But I used to say, the shittyness of it is what keeps all the gringos away. If the place had easy access to clean, white sand beaches and good food, the place would look like fuckin Koh Samui in two years with hordes of falangs and their stupid Heinekens.

But I don't know now. You might not be able to simply jump on the barge whenever you want. Last I heard you needed to pre-arrange a stupid QR code just to get to Campland. And my friend that runs a beautiful AirBnB on the other side of the island (with a bunch of hot bikini girls running around) still requires a QR code to get there just as of last week.

Back on the Sasa side, somewhere around where the two highways merge together, there was a new complex with a restaurant or two that just opened. And there were some high-rises going up that looked like condos. I hope you don't like what I call good food, But you might find something I missed or you might not mind taxing into Davao proper. (This is Sasa). And it's not like the area is really happening or anything. The closest mall would be SM Lanang, and out of all the malls in the city that's the furthest one out. Over the years the city got bigger and spread out that way, but the center of the universe is still around Giasano in Bajada, and San Pedro. Bon Appetit, one of the handful of good places to eat is in Bajada, if it's even open. GE would be the one to know to what extent the good places are running, if at all still.

I don't know if that helps, but you might not want to book an apartment for a whole month in Sasa before having a look. May want to stay somewhere closer to Bajada for a few nights and have a look around first. You might be taxing from one side of town to the other anyway. See what it's like even getting around. On the other hand, the relative seclusion up in Sasa might work for you. Another thing to keep in mind is where are your friends coming from? Theyre flaky anyway, the extra distance might make it even worse if they are not from that side. But who knows, your mileage will vary. A lot of them live up that way also.

I have already played the tape through. That whole mask, face shield, 30% capacity, tracking tracing apps, QR bullshit is too much for me. Thats not the world I live in. I love the place and want to go back, but for now there's more room (and girls) for you guys that are able to handle it.

It happened to me one time. This young 18 year old pretty girl wanted us to meet at Robinson. When I went to meet she had her cousin with her. We had dinner together. I was expecting them to walk away but the girl decided to come with me. She asked if her cousin can come and stay in the room. It is a no no in my book unless the other girl is the active participant. Afterwards we had a great time together only to find out in the morning her cousin spent the whole night at 7-11 on Mabini. I felt bad and gave extra money. Davao has either just entered or is about to enter Level 3, which means that movements will be more restricted than they have been over the past few months. As is usual here, what the new restrictions are isn't very clear yet though I note that the Bureau of Immigration will be staffed at 30% of its normal levels. Seating capacity in restaurants will be reduced yet further, making it ever more difficult for these establishments to survive, and I think I read that proof of full vaccination will now be required for entry into some places at least. There's now a debate about wether the MetroManila area should be placed under a Level 4 alert, though the distinctions between levels 3 and 4 aren't clear to me.

The Philippines appears to be about a month or so behind the US relative to the Omicron wave, so it's doubtful that this country has yet to reach its peak and we've noticed that the Pfizer vaccine seems to have become more difficult to obtain, though supplies of the Chinese vaccine and AstraZeneca seem to be holding steady. Whether the apparent Pfizer shortage is due to a delay in shipment or because more people are getting vaccinated and it is the vaccine of first choice for most people is unclear. When I received my booster about 3 weeks ago, all vaccines were available, so something has changed. Schools here have been shut for 2 years or so and I've seen no evidence that they're going to open for in-person learning anytime soon.

If the Philippines follows the paradigms seemingly established in W. Europe and the US, my guess is that the Omicron wave will last approximately 8 weeks and then begin to ebb, so I'm assuming that the more draconian restrictions will be imposed for approximately the same amount of time.

There's no good news on the near horizon for those hoping to visit anytime in the near future and my best guess remains that there's no chance of this place opening again until well into the second half of the year.

Most young girls have never venture far from the barangay. Most if not all will need someone to go with them to anywhere. The companion will wait and wait for the girl to go back home. 80% of the time it is not a scam.
