Lips continued to be on good form last night, quite a few new girls in, including some very attractive 18 year olds. Welcome. I plan to hit a few other vloggers. The idea that newbs would be relying on these vids leads to wrong info and judgements (over-arching generalizations) gives wrong impressions about the country, leading to newb disappointments. If some vlogger says he got a Burgos SW for p1000 LT last week (possibly true), who knows how many newbs see that and then think they can get Filipinas anywhere in the country for p1000. I said that I'd return to this topic, and here we are. These youtube vloggers. I have many thoughts. I rarely watch them (as I live here, and don't need advice, kinda seem to have something on the order of a well-oiled machine, much as described by FG recently in his description of his upcoming retirement plan). Usually when I do watch them, is when someone on the Board here brings the receipts and shows a link, or mentions a vlogger by username and I check it out.

Regarding this particular video, and the vlogger's account on YT: Chet's Stories (330 subscribers). Its a 5-minute vid (thank God, most of these vids are 10-25 minutes). In this particular case, the story on this video is about a newb American who comes to Phils, meets Chet by chance in a mall, asks Chet for help as the newb seems completely helpless, Chet condescendingly takes the newb under his wing for a night to help him out and show him the way, shows the newb around P Burgos, then in reality does NOT help the newb much, leaves the newb to the Burgos gogo bar girl sharks, and the newb gets ripped off for hundreds of $ (because Chet was not there to save the newb -- because Chet ran off and left the Newb with the gogo sharks after leading the newb to the gogo sharks).

Worse, just 30 seconds into this video I realized that something is off about this. The vid does not pass the sniff test. First clue: Chet's voice is not a real person, its an AI voice (there is captioning on the bottom of the screen, and some of the words are phonetically mis-spelled). Someone correct me if I am wrong. In fact, upon checking, other of Chet's videos are the same AI voice. The voice is translated from a typed script (which Chet provides, see below). The video is not Chet walking around with a cam on a selfie stick, chatting folk on the street. There is no street audio. The vid is someone walking Burgos with a camera, the cam audio has been completely muted, and the AI voice simply talks the entire time. We don't get to see Chet, nor the newb (Tommie, who, I believe, might not exist).

Second, the story seems to be contrived. I believe it an amalgam of every newb mistake ever made. The newb seems to have not bothered to read anything on the Internet about Phils, falls out of the "Newb-Idiot" tree, and hits every branch on the way down. He couldn't have been any dumber. There's even a bit in the video of Chet showing the newb to a Burgos bar where, downstairs, the girls are not GRO; they are sweet, and shower Chet and the newb with nothing but love. Then the newb decides to go upstairs to the GRO place, and Chet warns him of the dangers of the gogo bar girls. The newb goes upstairs to the GRO, and Chet leaves the newb to his own devices. The newb gets ripped off for hundreds of dollars (buying rounds of drinks for 10 GRO at a time). I ask: Where on Burgos is such an upstairs / downstairs place, with nice non-gogo ladies downstairs, and with gogo girls upstairs? The only upstairs places with GRO are Lollipop (downstairs is Nautica, with GRO) and Lips (downstairs are also GRO), and Blue Parrot has GRO upstairs and down.

While the basic storyline of newbs make mistakes (just look at my mistakes) is true, few people are as uninformed when they arrive as the newb described in this vid. Chet seems too altruistic and helpful. The voice is fake. The story is from a script (the script is literally pasted under the video on YT). But, feel free to watch it for yourself, and then share and tell me that I missed it completely.

I mention this because newbs watch these videos before they come, as they are hungry for local info on getting laid. If they believe vids like this, its easy to get scared off from Burgos or get the wrong impression of gogo bars. It gives the impression that you need to see this kind of video (and maybe others from Chet) in order to survive, when in fact this is not helpful. I plan to summarize and show some hypocrisy from some of these vloggers soon. Other's opinions on these kinds of vids are invited.
