Recently walked into several such bars near Plan be and including Plan be with my dates. Plan be was the only one that stopped us, they just wanted to see the girl's eye dee. No problem going in. I'm planning to come to Manila in May for a couple of weeks. Now I heard from a local filipina about the ongoing water crisis. Does it have any effect on mongering and staying in Makati?

A small effect. Your water in your hotel / condo might be shut off for a period of time (or greatly reduced pressure during that time). Example, the city might have told your location's block or area that water disruptions might occur from 6 pm-6 am for a few nights. Many hotel / condos have storage tanks on the roof that fill during the day, so there might be no disruption at all in the evenings when the water is shut off. It all depends on the hotel / condo.

Resto's in the area might be effected. Can't give you a glass of service water, or might not have fountain soda during the cutoff. They usually offer to sell you a bottled mineral water instead (interestingly making pesos off a product normally given away).

There are plenty of airbnb options available. Even I am trying to book one. But it is a better idea to scroll down and check the house rules before you book. I did email a couple of the hosts about rules pertaining to guests and they have categorically told me that not more than one guest is permitted. The women hosts have been tougher. They want the guests to be checked in, in advance. Have a strong feeling, the whole thing could create a scene in front of the security. Anyone else here had a bitter experience with airbnb hosts?

I am a big airbnb fan but often the accommodations are hit or miss. Even in the same building you can get a nicely furnished place or the exact same apartment with furniture that looks like a goodwill store rejected it.

As far as guests are concerned the host policy really does not matter as it is the guards that enforce the visitor policy of the building. Usually, as long as you are a resident or tenant you can sign in visitors. I stayed in many aibnb units in Jazz Residence in Makati and despite one having a strongly and firmly stated no guest policy, I had no issues walking past the guards with girls. Occasionally they would ask her to sign in, usually when they were unaccompanied but occasionally if I was bringing back 2 or at a time or they were dressed like working girls. Girls coming back the third or more time usually were able to just walk in the door, smile at the guard and proceed. Girls wearing normal street clothes were subjected to less hassle.

I had a lease at SM Light on EDSA, there the visitor policy is strict, you need a pass card to get in no exceptions, visitors needed to sign in and until they had been there several times a guard would come to my door and ask if I was expecting her. This was a block policy not an airbnb host policy.

Bit of an update from Bottoms. Claire is travelling to Sydney on 21 Jan for about 10 days to check out the job opportunity. Her Aunt also lives there. If she doesn't respond immediately to your texts on Whatsapp, it's because hookers are busy people who don't keep schedules. They are notoriously unreliable. That's why they are hookers and we aren't.
