First time in over 15 visits to the Philippines that I spend a night in manila, Makati to be specific. I had read the forum and I was prepared for the steep prices for barfine and tip. (well, tip is probably not the right word for those amounts.). What I didn't expect: in bottoms, a gin tonic with local gin during happy hour sells for 250 peso. And the change for my 1000 peso bill was 500+100+100+50. None of the usual 20 peso bills with the beautiful banaue rice terraces. The waitress didn't forget to remind me not to forget her so obviously she expected at least the 50 peso bill from the "suklit". And as if this was not enough yet, when I passed the bar on the way out the bartender put a big sign hand made from cartoon onto the bar saying "tip for the bartender, please"! So if I had tipped both times with the smallest available bill then the gin tonic (local gin, happy hour as I stated above!) would have cost me 250+50+100=400 peso. In angeles the same drink goes for 60-70 peso in happy hour.

OK, it's my last night and a drink is just a drink. And I'm definitely OK with giving tips to the waitresses because I know how badly they need them sometimes. But there have to be limits! And what I really don't like is the waitress giving no small change and then expecting a tip. Feels somehow like cheating the stupid foreigner to me.

I exclusively use dating sites when I come to the Philippines and for the most part only sleep alone when I chose to do so. I have been to watch the shows on Burgeos with dating site ladies, but have yet to partake in P4 P in the Philippines.

You are what is referred to in the UAE board as a 'manager' and you come from the part of the world where many of them come from as well (3 FRs in India where the banner headlines on the threads are now infamous).

RTFF as all you need on the Philippine board is there. There is even an advanced search function that you could use to get more specifics. About 10 seconds later you have your answers but I don't think you will as you are a manager not a monger LOL.

Manila is expensive. Prices are all over the place. Often they quote eye popping prices. You can politely decline & wait for them to lower the offer or you bargain hard with counter offers. I'm in the former camp. Night club costs: taxi, get in, drinks, if you're staying a while hire a table & order food, tip the doormen & bouncers. Believe me you will get the VIP treatment especially next visit & your capital will go up considerably with the girls. If it's a hit and run mission then get there early, hit the huukers up & be gone with your carnal friend. FL'ers range from great to disappointing, no way to tell before. I still say get on the dating sites and do some pre contact hunting as a back up.

Suits me, I've never been one for much past 11 pm! However, clearly BGC, Makati etc are upmarket areas so aren't the FLs going to be looking for decent compensation too? There is precious little for BGC on this website so I've not found any price ranges for FLs there. Makati yes, BGC no.

You may be referring to the reports of a private lounge for "special" guests, where the prettiest girls go when called. I did see stairs leading up, and I think that was for the lounge, but it did not appear to be in use during my visits. But I did not observe special areas in the bars for important clients. Maybe I had my blinders on. There were so few customers that anyone walking into a bar was greeted with enthusiasm. I was often the only customer in the early evenings (8-10 pm); the girls must get bored to death dancing on the stage for no one.

I am very picky and I always found something that suited me by 10 pm; I have been to the bars on Burgos Street 3-4 times and have always returned empty handed. I am a butterfly, but there is a cute girl in Pitstop that can really pitch a fuck, that I have been returning for.

The ancillary costs are really just a nuisance, like mosquitos on a perfect summer evening buzzing around my ears. I understand they need employment, and I'd rather pay them to open a taxi door for me then get mugged by them. The real costs go up with "drink creep" of which first timers should be aware. One night you buy the girl a drink, then Mamasan wants one, then the girl tries to get you to buy her "sister" a drink, and a menu snack, and you pay for a back massage. The next night they all expect you to buy them drinks again, plus another Mamasan shows up, and another friend. They are more like leeches than mosquitos. If you are not careful, or are a generous drunk like me, you will be buying the whole bar a drink before you know it And it does not matter if it is the next night that you show up, or half a year later, they all remember. They all remember.

G'day SP, I defer to your more recent & regular experience there. My visits were at the busy times of Fri / Sat nights. Middle of week when it's dead you have it to yourself for sure but the top shelf stuff is not on display. I'm not bothered by this. It's how they roll here. Everybody has there fav bar experience. Friday's on Burgos always was wild for me. Many happy three somes & even getting blown by everybody in the bar in the middle of the bar I recall The 'parasitic costs' came courtesy our Japanese punters who like the Geisha experience. I agree it's a pain. Have fun mate.

Depends what clubs you're talking about in BGC. I've been quoted from 5 k to 12 k in Prive, but have taken a girl for 3 k ST who ended up staying until the next evening.

Revel was quoted 6 k LT but sure I could have negotiated down had I been interested. Never seen or been approached by an FL in Valkyrie, just girls looking to get laid for the old fashioned fun of it.

I'm not a regular like you but others have noted the segregation also. It's something for newbies to be aware of. Perhaps it's the time of day? Perhaps they have less high rolling East Asian visitors there now? Your point about the parasitic costs is often overlooked. Thanks for bringing it up.

I think you're suggestion of nightclubs is going to be my best bet. The apartment is private and I should get over the security / walk of shame thing. Man up! Will do a FR, of course.
