    Makati vs Angeles today?

    Hello friends,

I am planning an impromptu trip to the Philippines for about a week in early March and could use some advice.

This will be my second trip to PH. My last trip was 10 years ago. I've researched the forum (RTFF) but given we're in a new world right now, I don't think the legacy posts are especially relevant for our current situation so would appreciate any advice or guidance from those on the ground.

My basic question is: how would you compare the nightlife energy in Manila (Makati) vs Angeles City right now?

I understand both locations are currently at Level 2, but in terms of nightlife where do you feel momentum is building back fastest?

Basically, I'm trying to decide if I should spend the weekends in Manila and weekdays in Angeles or vice versa.

My ideal mongering environment is nightclubs or bars with good vibes and mix of freelancers and semi-pros with perhaps even some fun non-pro girls sprinkled-in.

I know PH is still in recovery mode so nothing is the way it was, but I suspect Manila on the weekends will be best for this. However, if I take that route then I'd likely be spending the weekdays in Angeles and wondering if it will be a bit too slow / boring there during the week right now. Thoughts?

I know it's easy to go back and forth between the two locations, but am just trying to work out my hotel bookings, etc. , so welcome any thoughts / perspectives.

    Many thanks!

    Neidermeyer.

Update on P Burgos Street. Not much of an update

As of this week, there are no new bars or establishments open in P Burgos street, so still only the 5 "fun" bars listed in my previous report, the regular bars that survived are still open.

There is a new sign for an establishment called Lollipop in the same building as Nautica, when I asked some of the bouncers outside, they said it was going to be a Karaoke bar and should be open sometime in the next week, maybe someone can check it out if I don't get there soon and let us all know if it's worth a visit or not? I was actually hoping it would have been owned by the same group who own Lollipop in Angeles, but we will see what it is when it opens.

As Mahaba says, it takes time to recover.

The raids were more frequent in the higher alert levels, and just following the drop to level 2 which is now in place until end of Feb.

As to what happened in the raids, it was mainly checking on proof of vaccination for the customers and seeing if the establishment was checking for this, so if a number of customers didn't have proof of vaccination then the establishment would be in trouble.

A second type of raid is where a group of authorities show up and start taking photos of the customer base including ladies, this type of behavior generally drives out the ladies who are free lancers or working girls, and sometimes the customers, usually this second type is the result of a department feeling they need a kick back from the establishment, where as the first type of raid is trying to avoid bad news and is a lot more official. That being said, I haven't heard of any raids since the borders opened (a couple of weeks now), so hopefully we are now in a more "return to normal" mode of operation.

I was hoping yeah come on over bars are full of girls, freelancers everywhere and here's my report from last night. I'm being too optimistic, too soon I'm guessing. Any reports would be appreciated. Give it a month. It takes time to repoen, clean, re-hire staff, etc. The girls need to travel back from wherever thay have been riding out the storm.

I would also be careful with hotel room cleanliness. These places have been closed a while and mold, etc. Will have built up. Two years of 90% humidity has its effects.

Thinking out loud, perhaps the hotels that stayed open through the pandemic are the best bet for the near term since they have been somewhat maintained and aired out. They may even have clean mattresses and not the nasty foam mattress with a thin sheet. No need to ruin a trip with a skin infection.

Have hotel management take the cover off the air conditioner and if its predictably filthy have them clean the filter and coils and clear the drain. Otherwise you will be blowing all the nasties into the room. I usually inspect the room upon entry.

Lastly, bring lice / scabies killing shampoo and use all over your body the day you depart and seven days later (unhached eggs). Just in case.

Just my two pesos worth of advice based on experience.

Good luck with the move. Are you talking about the paperwork to move between cities and provinces or just to get into Manila?

It would be good to see a real world list of what's actually required to go from RWML, through a couple of transits, to Duma or similar.

    Cheers. G.

Friday night seemed much quieter along P Burgos St. Fewer street walkers around perhaps they have all gone into the clubs. Was in Lips and not a great selection perhaps a couple of 6 and 7's cheers.

    P Burgos

As of last night, no new venues open in P Burgos street, hopefully we will see more opening up soon.

There are still quite a few raids occurring, and some of the bars were super empty around midnight.

Bar fine in Nautica is 3,900 Php so a little bit more than Lips, the setup is different there with the ladies in Bikini's dancing for viewing and choosing fun, where as the other bars ladies are dressed more as if going clubbing.

    P. Burgos Street Update

    4. Coco Rock.

    5. Nautica.

See previous reports for more info on each.

If anyone knows of others please do share, regular bars restaurants include Bourbon (who have now taken the little Hello, kitty shop and converted it into a cozy street view semi private room), H&J which is close to Handlebar is now open again, as is Filling Station.

All places are very strict in terms of showing vaccination proof, which is down I guess to frequent raids, so be prepared if you are going there.

Still a long way from the pre-pandemic days, hopefully over the coming weeks and months we will see fun venues more open.

    Lips is currently closed

Lips is still closed with the dreaded Closure notice plastered on their door (see photos), hopefully they find a way to open again.
