    2. So I walk into a bar like Firehouse...what exactly do I do, just walk up to a waitress or bartender and say "I'm interested in a girl"?? And if so, do they automatically assume that I mean a prostitute?

    3. I have no where to take the girl, since I will be staying at a hotel w/ my family...so what options do I have where I won't have to spend much extra?

I think X Man covered the essential points. Remember though, in the Edsa complex and in the Burgos bars, there are no "normal" girls, and most, if not all, are there for hire. You do not really need to ask "for a girl" and your only problem will be deciding which one or which ones you want. I've run into two "virgins" on Burgos who allegedly don't go with customers. This is a rare exception however.

Remember, that this is a business, and there's little luck or skill involved in purchasing the commodity that's being sold. Tell the girl of your choice that you want to pay her bar fine. She will nod and call over the mamasan, who will take your money. The girl will then disappear for a few minutes to change into street clothes, and off you go. I'm sure that every girl working in every bar in Manila knows all of the short time hotels. If you like whomever you pick up, then get her cell phone number and you can make arrangements directly with her after the first time with no hassles and no barfine.

just go to the bar. they will come to you. buy a girl a drink and ask questions. you'll learn a lot.

i prefer to make eye contact with whoever attracts my interest. if you need to speed things up, talk to one of the older ladies (mamasan). tell her who you like and she'll call the girl over...sometimes right off the dance stage.

i suppose some guys here will have recommendations for short-time hotels, but again, the ladies will usually know a place. i've never had to do this though.

of course you are advertising yourself as a complete newbie, so they might try to get you to overpay. for short time from firehouse, give her 1000 and if she complains, give her another 500.

btw, the dance shows at makati, burgos (jools and one other place) are quite professional. what do the rest of you guys think? would you take family members to such a show? i think i would, but my family members are realatively open minded.

    Prov & Guiness:

As I PM'd CL, I NEVER "attacked" him at all and I challenge you two to put up [your evidence] or shut up. Quit instigating flame wars or trying to involve others like CL in your dispute with me (because I called "the Senator" on his racist posts in the Colombia folder).

Trying to start flame wars is all Prov ever does, and why Jackson has not banned him (despite putting him on final warning long ago) is beyond me. Prov is a paradigm of "serial antagonist" and adds absolutely nothing of any value. While I find Dashingdon's racist comments offensive, at least he tries to post some info and photos, unlike Prov who only posts to flame. Guiness has heretofore refrained from shit disturbing so one can hope his post is an isolated incident.

Quit wasting everybody's time as the members come here looking for info on Filipinas, not your stupid little attempt to discredit me for criticizing your Senator.

I was told there was no crime in the areas mentioned.Nice to see someone else walked around with his eyes wide open.

    Del Pilar...

I'm about 5'7", 60+ years old, never been trained in the martial arts, non-combative, and never had a single problem walking back and forth between Amazonia and LA Cafe. Never been threatened, never had so much as a hostile stare, and am never afraid of that street.

I don't know what the situation may be on the side streets and I do not plan to find out, but I'm reasonably sure that Del Pilar is totally safe. If you're worried, have a taxi drop you at the door, and then take a taxi from the door to wherever else you may want to go. I get somewhat pissed off at the guys trying to hustle me into taxi's with "no meter" so I usually walk to the middle of the street and flag down a metered taxi.

Like anywhere else in the PI, it's wise to remain prudent and not to carry much money. I always leave the credit cards, driver's license and anything else of value and/or with a picture in the hotel safe before I leave the room. I never carry more than P5,000 or war any expensive jewelry and try hard never to call attention to myself. It seems to work.

However I have been wanting to ask the board's perspective on this also. How bad of an area is it? I havn't seen any posts like "I got beat down/robbed at LA Cafe" so I have to assume its alright.

However I was there a number of times and never had a problem. I even walked down the street to Amazonia (about a block) and had no problem at all, but it was full day light and I had a lady with me. I have a feeling that with all of the westerners that frequent both places, measures are kept to keep them safe. I think the last thing any filipino business owner would want is something discouraging western money from coming to his or her place.
I stayed for a month at the Manila Pavilon many different times. I had no problem walking from the hotel to LA Cafe. I am 5'9, 275 lbs. I walk like I know where I am going, if someone tries to approach me I wave them off or shake my head no. If someone persists, I stop and look them directly in the eye and say no very sternly. I have never had a problem even walking at 3 am.

Some people may say I am crazy, but I have been trained in the martial arts on how to defend myself. Also 2 of my nephews are PNP officers, who showed me the ropes.

    Thank You CL

Cebu Local is the most trusted and helpful person on the Philippine thread. He has assisted hundreds if not thousands of people traveling to the P.I. In addition, he was the voice of reason during the Dannah Mae controversy while others were attacking her for no reason. I think it's disgraceful Surfer has attacked the reputation of this kind person.
The Philippine section has been peaceful for quite a while until Surfer drifted into town. It would be nice if he would go back to the Colombia section where he is continuing his attack on others.

    Thanks Guys

I understand that some people get embarassed when the the truth comes out and perhaps that is Why the Surfer could not accept that there were no multiple ID s.But I was clearly having Coffee with one guy at Ziggurat,The other was tapping away at 88 Internet Cafe and Another was in the Peninsula registered as Senator Real Name.Anyway I will continue to provide advice and Information and Validate Stuff as needed.GE See you soon Cheers

    No defense needed...

    Guiness:

CL is also a friend of mine, and I'll be seeing him next week. You know and I know that he's one of the nicest people on this planet and he needs no defending from me or from anyone else. His friends know who he is, and why should he care whatever those who may not be his friends think?
