Posts: 4084Rich Filipinas will not date a foreigner.
Hmm. Have serious disagreement with that. I lived in Alabang, and it doesnt get much richer than that and had about 3 on the go, not including a wife. Someone elses! Who I was lucky to also have on a regular basis. This was several years ago. These were girls from good families. With surnames such as Panlilio, Lhuillier etc. And they were more than happy to date me. Only thing was in general they turned up their nose at going to Anito. They wanted clean white sheets and aircon that worked hahah. But for sure, dating wasnt a problem. Some writers need to check the facts.

Maybe you should stick to the big cities and hang with the rest of the touristas!

Posts: 70Looking back on it, I did have a fun time that night. At least I got a "National Geographic" story out of the whole thing.
To answer your question though...I do love mongering and I love AC but when I go there I seem to get caught up in JUST mongering and drinking as there is little else to do there. Again...not saying thats a bad thing but it always takes me a week to recover. Once I wake up, shower and have a lunch its off to Perimeter to start again. lol. An evil yet enjoyable cycle. Granted, it's poor self-control on my part.
BTW...I wasn't complaining...just stating the obvious. Cheers.

You are right on the money. It is culture shock. In the provinces outside the city there is little other than water buffalo, pigs, chickens, and rice. I did not see running water or air con. Lesson learned. The really good part about the smaller town I visited was a SG offered herself all night for 200 pesos; she was a looker 20/21 year-old.

Culture shock or is it lifestyle problem?
I also went to see my gf village few months ago. I was very reluctant but after many times flying her to be with me in Manila I gave in to her request to go visit her family. Initially I agreed to stay at her house before flying to Tacloban. Her whole family came to meet us at the Airport in a rented van.
They were all hungry and ofcourse I had to feed them. So we stopped at a restaurent within 10 minutes of meeting them. Obviously they were waiting for us to feed them. It is not the cost factor and ofcourse they all ordered more than they can eat and took rest of the food home. Right then and there I decided to stay in a nearby hotel instead of her house. I told the girl I am used to modern conveniences and cannot stay at her house.
Next day she wanted me to go to her house and stay the whole day. I told her I will stay only for couple of hours. Her house was better than I imagined. She had her own bedroom and aircon. But there was no running water and I did not even look at the Toilet. Her father asked me why I wanted to spend money on the hotel and I could have stayed at their house. I said something like I like the comforts of the hotel. Ofcourse they served me dinner which was paid for by me.
I wanted to move away as soon as possible but I had to wait a couple of days till My gf gets off school.
After that we spent pleasurable few days at Ormoc without the hassle of putting up with her family.
In summary my observations are,
1. We are all used to some kind of lifestyle and visiting the girl's family is generally not a good idea.
2. Most of the families are poor and lack modern conveniences.
3. Since you are a foreigner you are expected to pay for everything even dinner and drinks for the whole extended family.
4. There is nothing to really see in the provinces except good scenery.
5. All rich philippino girls will not date a foreigner who goes there once in a while.

Info on ladyboys and their hands and adams apples:
I just returned from Bangkok and got good advice from a local taxi driver. He told me you can't rely on the hands, they can be small or the adams apple, some have them surgically removed or pulled back. The best signs are the shoulders, after he explained, we went cruising and he tested me, i got about 3-4 out of 5 right, and the more real ladies and ladysboys you compare when they stand or walk along the street the better you get on telling them apart. Just look how wide the shoulders are of a ladyboy vs. a real girl. It will not take too long and you will be able to see the difference. Forget about the hands or adams apple or high or lower voices. Take a look at their shoulders.

Traffic: I prefer putas. I had another exprerience similar to Lizard's on the same trip that I did not post about. I went to another girl's house, she had a good job and owned the house and was quite proud of it. About 350-400 sq ft (tiny!), cement floors (again she was proud, no dirt floor for this gal), her bed was a piece of foam, about 1" thick and 3' X 5', leaned up against the wall. She was in one room, her sister and two kids were in the living room with NO COUCH OR BED, they slept on a blanket on concrete. This was not the twigs, the city has tens of thousands of residents, unlike Lizard's. Her place was one of the nicer places I saw, and it was still crap. I insisted we stay at my hotel.
I was the only white person in the town, and her family constantly asked for pesos (her sister cooked me a chicken leg and cut a mango for lunch and wanted 200 pesos), and at restraunts ordered two meals for each person (so they could all take one home, even the babies), for which I paid. They also took me grocery shopping and bought more food than they could take home, the grocer stored the rest in boxes for another return trip(s). Guess who paid? It was like an ATM machine had come to roost at their home.
And yes Traffic I've mongered in TJ many times. Am headed down Monday.
AP1: I really did not see the family thing coming at the hotel. When the front desk called and said, "Sir, you need to come down here..." it still didn't dawn on me in the elevator on the way down to the lobby that her family was there. Once I saw them, I had a flashback to the girl's family mentioned above. I should have sent them packing right then, but didn't, and it turned out $60-80 at the mall wasn't so bad to maul their hottie daughter/niece/sister. Two nights in a row.
Lizard: I'm with you. Never again will I go to the girl's place. If she was from the twigs (or even Cebu city), I'd fly her to Manila to spend time at my hotel. If she brought her family, only meet in public, have a meal, wish them well. If the girl goes back home with her family instead of with you, then start mongering MONGER.
X-Man: Was this (below) for me or for Lizard? I've never been to AC. Also, X, its easy to complain about this stuff, but in retrospect it really was an adventure.

Posts: 70Rgbburn...I agree its best to stick with the pros. I once accompanied a girl back to her "house" so she could change and grab a bikini for the pool. Well, her "house" was halfway in the jungle in the middle of a squatters camp. She lived with her parents and once they saw the white monkey arrive the entire f*cking village came out in force. Soon I was handing money out to the family to go buy chickens to BBQ and to other squatters to go buy beers and rum. It was like the entire village showed up for a handout and to push their little "prize" on me for the entire evening; or maybe for a lifetime. After way too much rum, I conceded to stay in her parents shack which was no more than a hut built over a dugout hogpen and her parents gave us the only private room (it had half a door) and they slept outside while I laid down with their daughter whom I'd only met 5 hours before. The next day after being awoken by the hogs below, I took a community bath in the river with a new bar of soap purchased from my rum money the night before. I made the best of it and survived with a smile but never again will I go with a girl to her house or agree to meet their family. Calling it surreal doesn't even do the experience justice.

LOL! You did ok. Didn't see the family thing coming huh? Yes, be careful with the ladyboys in Makati. Just look at the hands and adams apple. Plus, they are usually without hips. They are worse in the Malate area. Very agressive there. Good report.

Rgbburn,
It was one of the most fascinating reads, right on! Why do you recommend to stick to putas after having what seems like a good time and an adventure with a civilian girl? And also, you obviously spent some time hobbying in Latin America (Tijuana?), is there a Latin country that's better than the PI for girls?
