It's too bad they don't have a nice clean beach, but then if they did it wouldn't be Subic. LOL.

Stayed in Subic for couple of nights last month, and it was more than enough. Unless you are into water related activities, the best thing is just the general layback atmosphere. I found the expats friendlier than in AC. The girl choices were limited however managed to get a girl for each of the nights. Both in mid to late 20's, but the service I received from these ladies was better than in AC and definitely more GFE. This girl was the highlight of my two week stay in the country. Subic is ok to visit with a girl, but you must really like her haha. Will not be returning any time soon.

I'm a regular visitor to PH, with a preference for Cebu, but I visited Subic for the first time last December and was really disappointed in the bar scene and night options in general. Was staying with my honey from Isabela and she's into picking up girls and even she couldn't find an attractive one to play with! I did prefer the more casual feel compared to AC and the hotel had a great little pool during the day when we weren't fucking. I had the most fun at Cheap Charlies both during the day and at night when more crowded. The Pom running it was great fun and very friendly. But I'd struggle to go back when their are so many other places to try. That's my thoughts anyway.

We should know soon enough. From the looks of it, it will be opening within a few months.

As for Louis Yakich (his legal name), The Cliffs is the one which his company (aided by disreputable real estate broker Chat Bitangcol) tried to grab. It's located on the hilltop overlooking the intersection of national highway 306 (main Road through BB) & Baloy Long Beach Rd. The Cliffs is 1/2 km west of the new hotel I mentioned.
Tommo's MO has always been to buy money losing places, fix them up & turn them around, then sell them. I heard he was already looking for another place well before Mango's sold.

I heard that it was going to cater to Koreans. I cannot recall who told me so take it with a grain of salt. If so will a Korean invasion be next? I fucking hope not!
Shining Wit thanks for the smoking update. It is so bloody hot in May I hope my watering hole of choice disguises the ashtrays too. Otherwise I will be heading out only after sunset except for lunch!

Thanks for the info, EBD.
Is the new development you mentioned the one opposite Landlocked, or whatever it is now called, - the bar upstairs with the balcony overlooking National Highway across from the beach side?
Might this be the one that Lewis Yokich was planning? If it is, I would not recommend asking too many questions.
Regarding Mango's, in a way I am not surprised. When I was in Barretto in November, Tommo was having difficulty getting around because of his legs, so selling up and probably retiring makes sense. Also gives some context to the e-mail I received in October from Linked-In saying that Gercheann wanted to add me to her circle of contacts. I didn't think that my good looks, charm, wit and sparkling personality were the cause, and as I have nothing to offer on that site, I let it lie.
At SouthEaster.
With regard to smoking, this was the position when I was there.
Arizona. Allowed in rooms, despite notices therein. I did book as a smoking room. Otherwise, there is a table and chairs on the beach or a corner of the car park.
Cheap Charlies. Allowed (or tolerated) along the outside, but cannot remember about the bar itself.
Mango's has a small smoking area of tables and chairs alongside the beach.
My regular watering hole permitted smoking outside, and inside at the bar the ashtrays were 'disguised'.
Also bear in mind that Olongapo City has an Ordinance banning smoking in the street. When my bus from Manila arrived, it could not get in the stand and reversed into Victory Liner's yard. I got off and lit up, and was told I could not, despite standing next to the bus with the engine running, pumping out diesel fumes. Go figure.

Wild Orchid has been the largest hotel in Barretto for ages, but that will change soon. This project broke ground right in the middle of Manga Beach around 2 years ago & is nearing completion. It will have a large, 2 story atrium & looks like it will be quite nice. I was told it's the project of a group from AC.
Does anyone have any additional info?
Next door, By The Sea is building an annex as well, so the number of hotel rooms in Barretto will increase substantially this year.

Everyone knows that "barfine" is a dirty word in Barreto. Instead, you might ask the value of the drink commissions your prospective amour du jour must earn before she can accompany you (to dinner)! Here's Mango's explanation of this ridiculous work around.
I recall being told a few years back that there was no more barfine. If I wanted company, said the mama, I had to buy the girl 10 drinks. No problem, I replied; I had already bought her 3. But those didn't count, I was told, nor could she drink the 10 drinks I had to buy her. By pure coincidence the value of the virtual drinks was exactly equal to the barfine of a few months earlier.
Speaking of Mango's, Tommo's 3rd project was sold to a Brit late last year. It has the look & feel of Blue Rock, Arizona, etc; similar menu, dive shop, even the rooms are reminiscent. Another Brit bought T Rose, previously owned by a German, about the same time.
