Apologies for the possibly redundant hotel query, and I have RTFF, but having trouble pulling all the info together.

I'm going to have a 4-5 day stay in Subic area from this coming weekend and would like to know the pluses and minuses of the following resorts (which all seem to be basically in the same price range) from anyone who is familiar with them. I'm particularly interested in your views on location, rooms, food, security, friendliness (assuming they are all GFriendly):

I was here 4 months ago and as it’s been stated before, the whole of calapandayan has fallen on hard times.

I had heard of the stories of drinks being drugged in players, but went there anyway (on the pretence of naked girls boxing). I shouldn’t have bothered because I was the only guy there, boxing never materialized and I was surrounded by wenches.

As for Miami the Mamasan was friendly enough, but again around 3 customers of the 2 nights I went there. No wonder they`re pulling shit like this.

I know there are certain limits to what you can safely report, but members here also realize that business owners sometimes report false information in order to beat the competition. There is also lots of gossip here and there. We might also have some drunk moron propositioning the 16yr old waitress who happens to be the daughter of the police chief.

A friend who I have known a long time, who I trust completely, and is well known around here, told me. He personaly knows the person who was busted. Other expats have also heard about it, and they have confirmed it with second hand knowledge. However, I do not know the details beyond what I have heard. I generally keep to myself when I go to the bars, so while I know all the bargirls in Baretto, I know few of the mongers.

There is certainly the possibility that there are details missing from this that would change the circumstances, but I am only reporting what I heard from a reputable source. There is nothing I like more than barfining girls, so I truly hope that this is just a rumor with no truth to it, however, I do believe that this is more than a rumor. I've barfined several hundred bargirls over the years, and never had a problem (or least not one that a couple of thousand pesos couldn't fix), so I think I have a good sense of what places to go to, and what places to avoid. In my opinion, barfining a girl in Calapandayan is not safe. This opinion not just based on this, but on some personal experiances I have had in the area. Calapandayan is NOT Angeles, it is NOT Baretto, and it is certainly nothing like Makati or EDSA complex. I am also quite sure that just about every other expat in the area would also recommend against barfining from that area. Now, lets say that I am wrong and it is completely safe; however, there are far better bars and girls 10 minutes away in Baretto, so you are really missing out on nothing. But if I am right, well, the only thing worse than paying a 1 million peso bribe is not having the million pesos to bribe your way out that situation (although from my understanding a couple hundred thousand could usually get you out of such a problem, but there are exceptions.)

This specific setup does not happen in Angeles, but rather in Angeles, it happens when you pick up a girl on the street (and a lot less often now as the local police force have given up on this scam due to the publicity). Obviously, if mongers were concerned about getting busted by barfining a girl, Angeles (and the cash cow to all well connected government employees, including law enforcement) would cease to exist.

For whatever reason, this "code of conduct" among the police in Calapandayan does not exist. You can be quite sure that for the time being, the only people barfining girls in this area will be Filipinos and tourists that do not know any better. I wouldn't single our Miami bar, as most likely it could have happened in any bar in the area.

Unfortunately, I do not know the details such as if the girl had a license or not. All of my expat friends (including myself) abandoned this area some time ago, so I don't have anyone to ask!

Such bars should be boycotted for all posterity and thus be put out of business.

Actually I was just expressing an opinion. I believe that the bars have a responsibility to shelter their customers from this type of thing...if they expect customers to keep frequenting their establishments.

Hate to say this, but I think the Miami Bar needs to take the fall here...in the form of a boycott. Once bars get wind that we won't put up with this they will put pressure on the police to back off trying this kind of scam in "legit" businesses.

If bars want our business, they need to protect their customers.

yesterday, an expat was arrested after barfining a girl from miami bar in calapandayan. she was supposedly ****, and this was clearly a setup. the bribe was 1 million pesos. this is the first news i have heard of that the scam perfected in angeles has now moved to the subic area. you should be aware that there is no way to avoid this type of setup since the girl will have a fake id and the cops are in on it, so if it is your unlucky day, oh well. i would certainly recommend avoiding bars in calapandayan for the time being. as far as i know, baretto is safe, but be carefull. if this follows the same path as angeles, things will get worse before it gets better. eventually there will be some publicity, the police chief will be replaced, and things will get back to normal. in angeles, the cycle took about 2 years, so hopefully it will not take as long in this area.

Please don't forget the wonderful Calapandyan Area, that's the real high end place to tour. That is a 7-10 min trike ride from baloy beach or wonderful down town BB.

Not the best selection of gals, you can get a stunner or two but remember where you are.

Thanks for the input BB, but 10 minutes between one and the other is the reason I've suggested some consolidation.

If you take a public bus from Manila, I assume you ask for Olongapo city.

If you are looking for sleaze and sand, you ask for subic or bb.

THose of us who've been to the Bataan Peninsula have no problem, but there seems to be confusion among newcomers.

Maybe two sites: Subic Bay: Olongapao AND Subic Bay: Baloy/Barrio Barreta/Subic city?

Having been in Subic bay during martial law, and only once since, is a pretty [CodeWord140] poor reason for me to take the lead on this issue. BB, we need your input.

They Should Be Separate








There is another recurring problem in that people confuse Olongapo with Subic Bay (ISG has two separate threads). In the old days, Olongapo had a strip of bars and brothels unequal to any. Today, you need to get out to Subic bay beaches, and a certain area on Subic bay...to get the good stuff.

I'm not a regular in this area...can anyone suggest a solution? Should Subic Bay and Olongapo threads be combined?

You have to go from the base area to barrio batetto to get into the bar scene. Its a 10 minute ride from the base and taxi service is available. The baloy beach area is walking distance from the BB bars.
