    Mongering in Tacloban??

I met a woman online I've been talking with and IMing. I kind of like her. Might go see her at some point this coming winter, etc. Anyway, she lives in Tacloban City and has a government job. She's cute, smart (college degree, good vocablary, etc.).

I'm wondering what tacloban city is like. If I went there and it didn't work out with her, are there other places to monger? Where shall I stay? Any info would be appreciated.

I might go to BKK first. Any recommendations for flights, etc. From BKK or how to do this?

    Thanks

    Thanks Any Hole.

Thanks for the reminder. I had meant to share my experiences in Tacloban after my two visits last June and November, but never got around to it. On both visits, I spent quality time with a sweetheart I had previously met on the internet. For me, Tacloban was the perfect destination. It has the attractions of a city, yet also offers a serene getaway without having to compete with many tourists.

During my first visit, I also stayed at Leyte Park. Its location is great, with the city center being a short walk or trike ride away. Did you notice that Leyte Park is also convenient to the you of Phil campus? Although I didn’t have an opportunity to participate in any mongering activities in Tacloban (my honey had never let me out of her sight) I could see many opportunities on the campus, in the mall, internet cafes, shops, and festivals going on around the city. I had a unique opportunity to chat with an American monger now living in Hong Kong who turned out to be a regular guest at Leyte Park. He referred to Tacloban as his 'secret retreat. ' I made many mental notes in the event I would ever return (alone.)

As I recall, Leyte Park was not in prime shape, but the location and views of the ocean make up for it. At about 2, 000php, I felt the rooms were a bit overpriced. If you return, you might consider McArthur Park, where I stayed during my second visit. The accommodations are much nicer, but the complex is further away from the city. We got around mostly via tricycle and jeepney. Which do not run between the city and McArthur Park in the evenings. But I’m sure you could make arrangements to hire a driver for the late night club action.

At the end of my second visit, I sent my sweetheart home and stayed in Tacloban for one last night before leaving for Manila the next day. She’s the conservative type who wasn’t into the night life, so I hadn’t seen much of Tacloban after dusk (which was fine, because the in-house entertainment was spectacular.) In the spirit of adventure, I moved out of McArthur Park and stayed at a guest house in the city center (I forget the name), just to be closer to any action. The rate was about 800php per night with accommodations on par with what you would expect at that price. I later realized that it was a bad move, and should have returned to Leyte Park and hung around the lounge areas and the adjacent festival grounds where I had gotten countless flirtatious looks during my first visit.

What was your take on personal safety in Tacloban? While at the guest house, at 2am, I decided to check out the Dunkin Donut’s across the street for a cup of coffee and quick reconnaissance. To my surprise, the guards were very reluctant to let me outside due to safety issues. After a few minutes of insisting, one agreed to be my escort. I thought an escort to Dunkin Donuts was a bit amusing until the door opened, when we were suddenly swarmed with beggars appearing out of nowhere. With the streets as dark as they were, the experience was a little creepy.

While that night was uneventful, intuition told me that there was much action to be enjoyed in Tacloban. All it took was a little knowledge of the city layout, and a driver you can trust. I left the next day for Manila and fooled around in Ermita before heading back to the States the following day.

    Hai Boom,

There are a couple off disco's in Puerto Galera the best being Broadway but a little pushy to get lady-drinks . Barfine was 1000 for disco and 1000 for the girl. There are a couple off nice places to eat but nothing special.

I like PG but thats mostly because off the combination diving and P4p available.

Sent me a pm iff you want more -specific info.

    Leyte

Thanks A hole for the post. I wish you the very best.

I've never been to Leyte but really want to go. I love the look and demeanor of the Leyte ladies.

Can you give us more information? Where are these bars? Also, did you hit the beach? Can you give us a review? Pictures?

I have Lonely planet map of Tacloban. I don't have a scanner, but can take a picture. Maybe you can do the same and mark the locations.

Or is it intuitive to just walk the streets and find these places?

And how did you meet this girl? Just a friendly warning ...great sex doesn't always mean a good wife. (Sure helps a lot though!)

    Tacloban

Last month visited one of my girl friends who lives in dulag, which is 40 mts away from Tacloban, I booked the Leyte Park Hotel.

Getting there was so easy 50 minute flight from manila, and 10 minute ride in the hotel taxi. The hotel was very run down but for 40 dollars I had a sea view room, and we had the swimming pools to ourselves, this hotel is owned my the Marcos familly, and is subletted to a Chinese company who are renovating it, to its former glory. I like Tacloban as it is not full of tourists like me, its is a busy, thriving port town, which has very good shopping, restaraunts, and go go bars.

There are about 8 go go bars, the best one called Schooners. This bar had girls of far better qaulity than ac, I suppose up to Manilla standards, and me being the only foreigner there the girls were falling over themselves to talk to me. They did this stage act where they dressed in topless or bottomles uniforms, then after the dancing would just sit on the customers laps and start fondling them, there were some real 10's here, but I had the gf with me so this was as far as it went!

The bar is run very proffesionally, the mamsan told be me the barfine for the night is 3, 000 peso, so a good deal more than ac, but the quality far better in the looks department. Downstairs they had some of the best pool tables I have ever seen they looked brand new, and they had 2 resident pool players you could play if your partner can't.

Across the road we went to this bar called pussycats, and there I saw very young 18 year olds doing their dancing routines, this place was a bit rougher at the edges, but none the less there were at least 20 very attractive girls in there dressed in very short skirts. The bar fine here was 2, 500.

Again I was the only foreigner here but the phills people were very freindly towards me, not once did I feel awkward.

I did plan just to be with my girl freind for one week and then I was going to return to another girl freind in ac, but beacuase the sex was just fucking mindblowing with the Tacloban girl I stayed with her! We stayed in tacloban for 9 days and then went to Boracay for 11 days, but really I wished I had stayed in Tacloban, as I felt so relaxed there, and Boracay seems so plastic.

I am returning to see my gf in July and this time I am staying there for 3 weeks, I think I have found love here in Tacloban.

Yes there are mongering oportunities in Baguio just like most big cities in the Philippines but most of the activity seems to be in the KTV style "Nightclubs". Last year, I spent over a week there and never once saw a SW and I was out at all hours of the day and night.

There are several nightclubs located in the downtown core but I never had the chance to check them out. There is a second cluster of clubs, one of which I frequented since I knew the absentee owner. Set up similar to a KTV with a stage to showcase the available talent and private rooms to rent by the hour, if you so choose. Regular drinks were reasonable but ladies drinks were expensive, some where around 300 php. Not sure on any pricing since I never payed for anything. If your interested, PM me for more info.

The huge mall in the center of town seems to be where everybody congregates so picking up women is a cinch if you got game. If you are going to be there for sightseeing or whatnot, by all means check out the scene but I would not make a special trip there to monger.

One thing I find interesting: you mention all the "problem people" at the port in CDO. I did not experience this in either Ozamis or Cebu. The only guys who got a bit "excited" at seeing me were some taxi drivers in Cebu, but my girlfriend dealt with them. Maybe she was glaring at them, but even the porters were laid-back.

In Ozamis I was mostly ignored.

I can't speak for Ozamis, never having been there, but one thing I have noticed regarding Cebu, Davao, Butuan, Surigao and CDO, all of these ports' ingress and egress are set up differently, I think the problem in CDO is where you exit is so close to the road (Public space) where all the jeepneys & taxi's stop, you have to walk down some steps and it is tailor made for people to crowd in on you, also regarding Cebu the place has better security and is HEAVILY policed, many plainclothesmen in the crowd watching the "problem people". I NEVER had a problem in CDO (or anywhere else) other than people bum rushing you trying to get you into their cab, but the potential is there I added that so the brethern would be aware and take precautions.

Agora Bus terminal (there is another terminal for busses going other directions) has busses going South to Davao. There are parking spots for the busses, with signboards announcing their destinations. There are air-conditioned busses and standard (no air con) busses. If you have luggage, the guard or conductor will take them and lock them in the compartment. Busses depart regularly and all night. Departure times may vary between every 10-30 minutes depending on time of day. The conductor will come by and hand you a ticket, tell him your destination. Later he comes by and collects the fare. It’s P 105 to Malaybalay on the air-con bus. It’s not like in the old days, where you might ride with chickens. The air-con busses are sometimes too cold. While riding consider that the words “bus plunge Philippines” occurs 105,000 times in a search on Google.com. The red beans you see drying in the sun is coffee.

    I'm at grannie's house

The sweeties here with me now, so no time for a big report. I'm in the Bayugan Del Sur area, about 100 kilometers from Butuan City. It"s actually boring here, but I'm making the most of it. Not much to do. Go to the restaurant for a bite to eat, jog around the rotunda, and walk to the palengke.

Doesn't look like me and the honeys gonna hit the bed at all. Not many options for a place to screw here. Mom and the relatives are at grannie's. The family's house, on Water District (? ), has become off limits. The neighbors are gossiping and dad's worried, so we haven't been there since a week or so. The last resort is the lodging house. Dream on! It's never gonna happen. Who's gonna see us walking in or out. Wow. If dad got word we were there, we'd both wind up dead.

My sweetie has already told me that the ring comes first before her pants come off. Oh well, too bad. My fiance in Bislig gets the ring. Will head to Cagayan soon before I go back to Davao and then back to Canada. Sorry for the mis spellings and whatever else doesn't sound right. Have to hurry. Later. TC

    Boracay

Stayed at the Red Coconut 16500 for three days with breakfast. Was tethered to my wife. However, had intesting experience. Got up early (5am), as I always do, and went for a walk. In an area called "D Mall" there is a bar called Isla Bala. Had two babes try to get me to come to their table. The bad news - young filipino guys looking a little under the weather were ordering beer at the bar.

Waling back to my room I was invited to sit with two girls, but, because of marital obligations, declined.

Cucomongas seems like a place where you would finnd action.

Sorry thats all for right now.

CDO trip #2, old BG's never die...they become mama sans

We get off in the middle of downtown Maramag, we grab a Habal-Habal, the only transports available and go for a bumpy five mile ride through "town" and turn off into nowhere, down a dirt road and come to a little farm house full of kids, relatives, chickens, pigs, goats and mud. They got a big feast waiting for us, consisting of rice and dried fish, fish soup. The farm house sits on about a hectare of land (2 1/2 acres roughly) lots of chickens and a few pigs which I guess I own, or rather my wife does. We are here to conduct business, pick up our profits from the rice harvest and invest in Maize, or corn as corn based fuel is the newest thing in the Phils. Now all this has to be done with cash which is a pain in the ass as nobody here has a bank account, the bank dont take checks and cant do wire transfers. I mention this as if you are considering doing business this is what you face and not just in the province either. So we wait & head into town to meet so and so with the money (Which he probably buried underground) after selling his harvest a day ago. He takes his time and shows up late of course but the count is right. Now we transfer it to so and so, once again all cash sign a contract at that is it. Simple but it took all day.
Notice I did not go riding around out in boonie land with cash from one to transfer to another, after the deal is done we go check out the corn field we staked, everyone knows we've no cash so why try a hold up? back we go to the farm and settle in for an evening of more Karaoke singing and dried fish. Half the province shows up including the local vice Mayor and the Parish Priest, to gawk and talk with me. I've been here several times, but each time, these folks have a way with making you feel like you're a celebrity.

I sleep on a bamboo floor, my over night bag for a pillow. It is rather cool out a pleasant surprise. Next morning I'm up at dawn and go for a walk in the countryside, I have an army of kids (nephews and cousins mostly) as my personal "bodyguard", breathtaking views and cool dry weather. Back on the bus and head to CDO. More hairpin turns, A little past noon we get off at Agora. Now Mrs SH wants to stay with other relatives in their cramped, dusty and hot "rooming" house. But frankly I've had enough and head for the DYNASTY hotel. I want TV, AC and hot running water.

Now I mention Dynasty hotel but there are others as I've said in CDO that are cheaper and such, the riverview, Southwest Motel and CDO visitors hotel, all udner P1000 all are centrally located for mongering. BUT it is CASH ONLY no credit cards, I wanted to put this on Visa, so you are limited to 3 or 4 places. The Dynasty was full, lawyers convention, so I checked into the VIP
a few block away, they take the card and are pretty decent. Price P1,800
for econo room, but big and roomy the AC works great and they have cable.
To my knowledge the other place is Max Alexander but they are REAL Expensive and dont have much to offer other than a big room and fancy decor.

Shower and shave and ready to flop down on the bed when the "boss" tells me she wants to visit an old GF who just had a baby. Okay, head out near the airport, to the new SM mall and pick up a gift then turn into and exclusive neighborhood of 3 story mansions. This lady married a Korean, built a great looking place and was glad to see her us. We were in the middle of iced tea and a tray of fruit, enjoying the AC when a commotion at the door
broke the setting. In charges a person with all the sensitive grace of a hammerhead shark. She was yelling before the reached the stairs and continued up all 3 flights, startling the baby and pissing off Mom and Mrs SH.

It was the sister of our lady host, lets call her...Mary (as in hell Mary?). I guess her at age 40 or so, floppy belly from two kids (by different fathers) saggy boobs that were once nice. At one time she was attractive, I could see it in her face, but now... I'll say this, she realizes her sister has company and she changes, putting on her professional charm when she sees a foreigner is a guest and she remembers mrs SH whom she hasn;t seen in years. Hell mary calms down and sits gossiping with us, asking a million questions about me, etc. Some I catch, some she ask directly in english, but this nosy bimbo wants to know the value of everything my wife is wearing.
When the Mrs displayed her diamond engagement ring I'm suprised she didn't pull out a jelwers loupe.

Later here's what I get from my wife about Mary, listen up and learn a few things and get reinforcement on a few others. Mary started work in Davao as a GRO, got recruited for some bar in Manila and helped raise her sister and family, putting our host through college, her and Mrs SH were roomates and when Mary returned Mrs SH did baby sitting for her kids while she went to work in the bar. Mary used to come home with leftovers that customers didn't eat and fed it to her kids and everyone else. Sis graduated, worked for awhile, met a nice Korean fellow and got married. Mary got too old to be popular and found work as a Mama san. I understand enough Visayan to catch that Mary asked My wife not to tell me what she did "before".

Mary is also eaten up with jealousy, she is envious of her sister, nice house, nice furnishings, a car and she is Jealous of Mrs SH, who sits there with a "nice" foreigner husband wearing nice jewelry and bragging about a recent Honk Kong trip. So Mary relays a story about how she has an "Online" BF an American who sends her money to go to school, and will be visiting soon, hopefully to get her a fiance visa to the USA. Meanwhile, Mary bums a taxi ride downtown when we return coz "classes are starting at nightschool". We let her off near the VIP hotel. Mrs Spamhog rolls her eyes and clues me to the real deal, according to her friend.

Mary works at one of the local Videoke's as a Mama san, (night school bullshit) She was yelling about some sort of problem with her current boyfriend when she charged into the house earlier. She came in to ask her sister for a loan, for the BF of course. I also learn the BF is a "Macho dancer" at one of the gay clubs in town. Now herein lies the paradox, Mary worked her ass off (literally) humping guys to fed her family and educate her sister, it paid off as sis has a good life, Sis now takes care of her and of course gives her "loans" and has taken Mary and her two kids (Both in their teens now).

She even offered Mary a job at one of her legitimate businesses, but Mary still keeps up with her old habits (she goes for younger men, similar to her former profession) and works in the bars. She brags about a foreigner "pen pal" who gives her money and sends her to school. Sis assures us this guy exists but doesn't send as much as Mary says. Anyhow two things:

One: some chump is sending Mary money to send her to school and take care of her kids until he can get to the Phils to "marry" her. SUCKER!!!!

two: Mary will not change her ways even when offered the opportunity to do so, remember Spamhogs addage:

YOU CAN TAKE THE GIRL OUT OF THE BAR BUT YOU CANT TAKE THE BAR OUT OF THE GIRL.

Later on we decide to go for a stroll at CDO's night cafe, lots of sights and sounds, I listen to a band while sitting at a makeshift outdoor cafe sipping an ice tea. Lots of girlies strolling by, a few are probably freelancers. I notice a few Byots too, also working the crowd BEWARE.

On the way back to the hotel the night has put on her face like a tired hooker, neon and winking lights. I notice the VIP hotel is a block away from the kangaroo bar, Ate M's Videoke (a few girls standing outside trying to lure in customers) and we pass a place with garish green neon sign resembling lips called 'Kiss me' bar or "chu chu", anyway Korean writing on the sign so you can probably guess the rest.

I wanted to hit a few of the clubs like Mojo (ralfs sports bar nearby looked like a good place for some western food and imported beer) and excite disco but Mrs SH was too tired.

I wondered which bar Mary was hosting at?

Mrs SH narrowed it down to two, Bada Bing or Ong Tek, right across the street from each other and a stones throw from Riverview hotel.

    Regards
