Posts: 1194as SH notes, chismus (gossip) is something at which Filipinos excel (along with sleeping, singing, smiling and babymaking). Even in big towns with lots of roundeye (e.g. Angeles), people you had never met knew many details about you.Waitresses in a abr you had never visited knew what you drank and where you stay LOL

Not really. For Siargao islands (where the best surf beaches are located) you depart from Surigao city as Butuan is on the wrong side of the penninsula. For Camiguin the departure point is near CDO, which is a much bigger and more happening city than Butuan. I flew to Butuan once (on a 737) when flight to Surigao (Fokker F27 that PAL used to fly) would not take surfboard but hired a car duirect to Surigao so I never sawq much of Butuan. Surigao used to have a couple rundown girlie bars but not really worth a visit. I ALWAYS brought a babae from somewhere else when I went to Siargao. You can fly directly to the island nowadays instead of the 4 hour trip in a large banca that used to be reqwuired to reach General Luna (called "GL" by everybody). Lovely beaches and isolation.

First line of defense is the taxi driver, do you know how many of them are CDIG? (Civilian defense intelligence group)
or police informants? Then you got to understand the "relative" network, all her cousins, uncles, aunts, tenth cousins five times removed and their clan ALL KNOW ALL ABOUT YOU before you get there. Most of this is geared for people to make money, guide you to certain resuraunts/hotels, even "casa's"
the only thing you can do is give false info about your name, country of origin, who you are here to see, etc.,to throw them off the track. only lasts long enough until they can compare notes and figure it out, so why bother?
The suggest to go to CDO and party it up is a good one, very nice place with lots of little bars, a nice mall and you can get some western style food.
Good luck

Tungsten, if you are going there to meet someone, why are you asking for the "action"? I've never been to Butuan, but I'm pretty sure that this is a relatively small place with few foreigners. Be careful about playing around -- the walls have eyes.
Butuan is a good hopping off point for the islands of Camiguin and Sarigao. You're also close to Cagayan de Oro, which is a pretty nice little college city.
We'll be looking forward to your followup reports.

there is a big high rise hotel in town, big chinese symbol onthe side of it, (cant remember the name) but near the hotel are several small bars, mostly filipinos go in to them but if they see a foreigner the girls (gros) will bum rush you. this is also an overnight truck stop and lots of hookers in small cafe's catering to the truckers, i wouldn't tag any of them though, too used and too burnt out on shabu.

Posts: 32There is only 5 or 6 go-go/disco bars and about 3 freelance bars all within a few hundred feet, so not really much of a crawl even if you hit them all. (-; Seriously, you can pop your head in them all in about 10 minutes flat.

Brothers in the Pines,
I'll be making my first trip to Puerto Galera for some scuba training Feb. 18-25. Am interested in a recommendation for one or two good bars, not interested in a crawl, would prefer to head straight for quality, price not so terribly important. Also interested in anyplace that offers in-call, i.e. bj bars. Cheers.

Columpuss,
I have heard anecdotal reports that the Puerto Galera/Sabang area sustained property damage from Durian. I have not heard any rpts of fatalities in the area. It appears the fatalities were confined to the Bicol area, especially the villages on the slopes of Mayon Volcano.

Posts: 249Does anyone know how's Puerto Galera or Sabang holding up against Durian. I don't have a drop of religion in me but I do pray for the good people of the philippines. The corrupt government + terrorists + poverty + typhoons, they still smile. The ironic thing is, praying to "him" is what most people in the PIs do all their lives and they still get this crap, thanks to "him" the great one.
From the brother mongers in this forum, our hats are off to you: the little boys selling baluts on Sabang, the old woman with the fruit basket, the many beautiful girls comming from the province to scratch out a living there, and also, forgive our petty complaints for we are not up to your standard.

Posts: 4567Thanks for the post Boston, but could you please give more details? I'd love to hear more travel reports from outlying areas....as Spamhog has done.
How did you get to Daram? Why did you go? How long did you stay?
And, as a photo lover...what happened to your pics?
Columpuss, yea. That's good. I've seen a pig trike before and you are absolutely correct. Is that a Brit sense of humor I detect?
