Nice repot Blastoff. I too was in Catbalogon in the Rolet Hotel about a year ago. My opinion of the hotel differs a little. I had a window and a view of the Collage across the street. You could easily miss this because of it size. Prices I agree were excellent. The room you spoke of seemed very small so I opt for the family room with two big beds.

I got a bit brave and visited an island in Daram for a night. No plumbing, No electricity and no CR or bath. We had to use a tree or the river.

All my photos were lost. These were taken by someone else that stayed and did what I did.

Good to hear from you. I have been recently accused of lying that I did this trip so to hear from some one who has done the same with similar photos is a relief and will put the doubting Tomas's to bed lol.

Just got in from a visit to the province, an interesting experience I will post on under "living in the Philippines" It was located in the wilds of Surigao interior (mindanao) to get there i had to first go to tandag on the extreme east of Surigao province, flew in from Cebu on a 16 seater asian spirit. Was suprised to learn a full fledged surfing festival is underway as of Nov 19th to Nov 26, Lots of foreigners showing up, surfer boy types. Mongering potential is from the two colleges and numerous local Lasses who are quite friendly and curious, few white men come here. Some of these ladies will be competing in the much touted "Bikini open contest" only two videokes in town but I didn;t sample either. found out later in the "province" many girls were thinking about coming to town to "see" the "foreigners".

Best place to stay is probably Secanse Pension, right on the water.

Is watching them get the Pig into the side car. Watching two three or four 120 lbs stalwarts pull its ears push the butt, kick it in the belly, shit flying everywhere while the pig squeals louder than a siren everybody shouting cursing etc, tehre are times when I wished I had my videocam.

The locals sure know how to move things cheaply over there. I once saw a 3-piece lounge suit strapped to a small motorcycle! Where else would any one attempt that?

I just saw a COW in a Trycycle sidecar last month in Batangas.So A pig is nothing new.Spamhog I also saw a Weenna with the goats in Davao When I was in Davao last month.Amazing!!!!!!

The Pig in a side car is so average and everyday i hardly notice it anymore, however imagine this one.

A hot day in Davao and the Spamhog is driving by the bus station in Davao, a
"weena" lines stops just in front of me and blocks the road. The foreman jumps out, opens the cargo area and removes some luggage and then (I swear im not making this up!!!) at least twenty goats all tethered on frayed rope leashs. Some skinny little pinoy farmer looking like charlie chaplin is trying to manage the animals. He was crossing the street in heavy traffic with the goats jumping and twisting around, people in their Pajeros swerving and braking/honking etc. He made it wiothout a casualty. it was something out of a Mad TV routine. Took me five minutes to stop laughing.

Pig tranportation in 3rd World can be unorthodox for some of us (some won't like it):

Hahaha $150 per day? You will live like the Sultan of Brunei.

Everything is cheap there. You will be hard pressed to spend that much including girls. You can spend as little as $200 per week and still have a good time in the provinces.

I love your attitude. I'm stuck (well, more like stuck in paradise) 7 days a week in Manila due to work, but I'd be doing the same in a heartbeat if I could get out of here. Funny how that one old guy was going moralistic on you. Most of us know YOU ARE THE MAN, but unfortunately, jealousy does raise its ugly head on occasion. I usually look for the new, province types in the bars, but there is nothing like the real thing.

How was internet access in Samar and Leyte. I have to download about 8MB of files per day for business, so anywhere I go must have access to at least an internet cafe that I can conect my laptop to.

Surprisingly, broadband internet is available in both Tacloban and Catbalogan. There are many internet cafes in each city. I suggest you go to the air-conditioned ones as they usually have the fastest internet.
