but a woman leader within the group, quiet but imposing by virtue of her height, figured out another way to operate without attracting too much attention. they rounded up a jeepney, put curtains along the sides to provide some privacy for those inside, and drove around the city as a sort of mobile clinic. they would stop along the way at the various sw hotspots, take on the sws as passengers, extract samples and hand out condoms as they traveled, and then drop off the sws back at the same place where they'd picked them up. they attracted little attention because they were mobile and had no signage, but word was out among the sws about what they were doing. the tall leader became known as "big mama" to the sws, although i believe they eventually ran out of money. but her knowledge of the darker linings of life in pp got her the respect of, and appointment as a senior aide to, a mayor who was re-elected to office after an obligatory term out of office. i don't know what big mama is doing now, but the mayor is running for higher office. if he wins, big mama may be coming to pasay.

I was in Cebu City when I read a report about a guy in Daan Bantayan who had studied with Bruce Lee. I thought, "Holy crap, I'm there!"

I arrived at Daan Bantayan at the resort, but something was odd. Skip had just died. I had missed him by a couple of days.

Skip was the real deal, one of those guys who trained with Bruce Lee before anyone knew who Bruce Lee was. Now a lot of them, like Jesse Glover, James Lee, Ted Wong, and Skip Ellsworth are gone.

I visit there about twice a year.

So he asks me where I'm staying and I guess I made the next mistake and told him the truth, that it was right up the street. He tells me his name and asks me mine again. I told him because he already knew anyway.
