Some people just can't be trusted with displaying appropriate behavior at these places.

Some mongers overpay and overtip the girls. Which distorts the field for future foreigners.

Some mongers don't know the etiquette at these places, it usually only takes one or two badly behaved guys to put an establishment off accepting foreigners for a few months, if not for good.

I've even heard stories of mongers advising independents (back when the scene was good) to UP THEIR PRICES, which sounds completely nuts.

Then there are those who lurk and leech, but don't post any information on their own adventures in Seoul.

All in all, if I were to find a good place, I'd share it in PMs with those who have access to the service, but you have to assume that everyone you tell will also pass that info on to someone else.

Once you walk in, you can get a pretty good sense as well. The cost is one indicator, the shower in the room and mirror on the wall is another. So is having a middle aged male staff attendant showing you to the room. When in doubt, I just ask. They're honest about what you're paying for.
