And "try to drag you in" means the mamasans grab you (they're surprisingly strong!) and recommend you see their girl (s) by pulling you towards their closed doors. I second that it opens around 8 pm. However, I've gotten action as early as noon (only place open at the time) in Cheonho, and the last person I met says she works till 4 am on the days she's there. Also depends on the day of the week, as more places are open (in the evenings) on Friday and Saturday compared to other days. As a foreigner, YMMV, so you might have better luck when there are fewer customers overall.
