IMHO, I think the massage girls at the Thai places are the best bet. You will get your time that you paid for and then they are a lot of fun. I read your post, thank you for that. Unfortunately I am white and Korean-less from a language viewpoint. I will keep an eye on those old ladies. And for what concerns saying Hello, I do it a lot.

But what I am looking forward to find now is really a watering hole I can count on, without the uncertainties related to finding the old lady. A club, massage, karaoke or whatever else that I can use consistently and with consistent results.

As promised to myself, and despite the polar temperatures, I got my bicycle and went to check the fun area. Basically the one full of neon lights.

Together with one of my mates, found 6 massage places, as many night bars, one karaoke place offering massages, one Thai massage place offering aromatherapy, and I just checked a few of the buildings in the area.

I also found a place with a single barber pole, but it is not a barber shop and not a massage place, I have still to understand what is it. It looks like a night bar, need to check it out again.

The search for alternative escorts is not going very well. Both backpage and massagerepublic keep offering always the same, and 90% of opportunities are in Seoul. Tried to reach out to some of the so called independents, but almost none responded to my calls.

I also installed wechat and scanned the surroundings for promising contacts, but to no avail. If you don speak and write Korean, chances are indeed slim.

On the freebie side, the offer is also slim. There are a lot of English teachers here in the area, mostly women, but I have to find out where they hang out, assuming they do.

In summary, it is not too bad, like Helsinki or Stockholm, but it is not good either. The sport is there, but it is hard to find and quite expensive. Yeonsu remains the most opportunities rich place so far.

I used to live in Inchon and although I never partook of anything there, I saw action all around and for that matter all over Korea. It is a different game plan in Korea and you have to train your eye to catch it but once you do you will see it all over. It is easiest to spot near the train stations. I think it may depend on where you're at as far the word used. I've had some massage places straight up ask if I was "shexy". It's kind of the like the word sex but with a sh. Most of the time they have girls dedicated just for sex from what I've learned. One shop I've went to many times the guy at the front desk will ask me if I want a massage or service. If you are wanting fun and no massage, I would suggest not to go with the aroma massage as it is typically $20 more than the other normal massage and if you just ask the girl to give you an aroma massage they will anyways. I've never "yeonae" used but I'm sure it if you speak some Korean that is the word the provider will use. Most of the time I've always heard service used.

Incheon to Seoul is around 45 km. It took 2+ hours with a cab and 40 k. Got stuck in traffic and had to get the subway, absolutely packed. On the way back could not find any cab driver willing to bring me back to Incheon and had to travel with the subway back home, 2. 5 hours. Had to give up twice on hopping in, train full to the roof. I saw for the first time "rough" behavior among Koreans.

Logistics are really bad in the area. Long commuting is hardly possible.

On the positive side, it is not needed to go far. Anywhere you are, look for a karaoke, hour hotel, neon lights, buildings with writings at all floors, shabby and messy roads. And there is a good change you will find fun close by. Best bet massage places, it is a bit hit and miss if you don't know your way. In the worst case scenario you will get a massage and nothing else. Ask for service, it is the keyword that they use to get the message about extras.

Tip: if you plan to stay for more than a couple of weeks, it makes a lot of sense to buy a bicycle, or to rent one. Distances are large, car is out of the question, and subway is not optimal. With a bicycle you can get anywhere. Be careful in traffic though.

I would not recommend getting a bicycle, unless it is just for exercise. You will bike for hours and have no idea where you are going. The subway is extremely efficient. Some of the lines get packed in certain areas during rush hour (about 6-8) but overall it can't be beat. Buses are great too as they have their own lanes and can move nicely through traffic. If coming from Incheon, you should always take a bus. The main reason I am commenting is to say, if you are coming on vacation do not get a bike as your main mode of transportation, awful idea.
