Posts: 1283Looks like I missed out on a lot of the fun the past few days while I was getting my ass roasted off in Shanghai and getting serious blue balls from lack of action (which I remidied first thing I got back last night).
Lets cut Romeo some slack. He obviously thinks he has the moves with the ladies (why else would he call himself "Romeo") and feels slighted by the girls here. All I can add is this:
lighten up, act natural and dont blame your trouble with women on the culture here. Taiwan girls like any other country will natrually be cautious of any stranger that approached them with an obvious pick up or look of raw hunger.
Best of luck to you.

Posts: 316All jokes aside, I imagine that the situation is something like this:
1). Romeo's not local nor do I think that he is white/black. That leaves us with him considering himself an ABC or CBC despite the fact that he was actually born here in Taiwan.
2). He probably speaks at least kitchen-table Chinese but is functionally illiterate.
3). Having no connections from school, work, etc, he feels that he is on the outside looking in as Taiwanese do indeed tend to move within social groups though with younger generations these are very flexible.
4). and.......I am going to guess that either Mommy and Daddy have decided to move back to the motherland or else they have sent him to live with Gramps and Granny out in the countryside somewhere. Although posting in the Taipei section, if I could, I would bet that he is nowhere near Taipei or any of the three other major cities for that matter.
5). The super-vibe awareness of people thing has left me stumped. Perhaps he is actually part-alien or something?

I am really surprised the pickup you tried at Pizza Hut didn't work because I used to try that all the time. Generally, I would do what you did - just yell out "Hi" and sometimes "Hey yo!" to random girls when the walked in the door and usually - I mean, not always but 9 of 10 - they would rip their clothes off and mount me on the table! I know! However, I am no longer allowed in any Pizza Huts so assumed that this continued to work.

Posts: 125A1: Are you telling me that everybody would ACTUALLY try to interact with you or have a conversation with you regardless the fact you are a TOTAL stranger back in America? I doubt it. It's true Asian people are more reserved and they are definitely intimidated by foreigners. Keep in mind that most people here don't speak English. So to strike a conversation with the locals. You have to speak the language. Also. If you think that you can just walk around and hit on any girl and that you'll score. You are WRONG. I think it's your approach. Why don't you hang out with me. I'll teach you the right way of doing things here.
A2: You must be in all the wrong places in Taiwan. Next time you are in Taiwan. Give me a call. I'll show a completely different perspective of Taiwan. I've been here for 15+ years. And I'm loving it. But then again. A bit of variety is always good.
Reply to Pizza Hut update: As mentioned before. Are you telling me that everyone would respond to your "Hi's" back home? Remember. English to them is like Greek to you. (Pizza Hut? You actually think you can score with a person at Pizza Hut? Let's not even mention score. Why would someone want to talk to you at Pizza Hut?)

Everywhere I go in Taiwan, I see these highly REPRESSED cold stuck up closed inhibited faces everywhere. Their body language is of total introversion and inhibition, especially the young females. It makes them almost INHUMAN, like robots or zombies who have been "altered" like in some scary sci fi horror movie! That gets me down, just like the ant****ial, anti-stranger, cliquish mentality of the US does. So how the hell do you tolerate that here? I could not live here for very long, despite the good food and modern conveniences.
3. Why do none of the expat blogs about Taiwan mention the above? Is it cause it's taboo to say these things even though they're true? Or is it because Taiwan tends to attracted reserved introverted expats as well, so they don't notice anything abnormal? Or are they too polite to be honest, so they only say nice positive things to avoid offending anyone?
Can you give me serious answers to these questions, with no bull or politically correct claptrap?
Thank you.

Posts: 15How do you meet girls in Taiwan? It's so frustrating!
Need help! 3 serious questions about Taiwan
1. How do you meet or approach girls in Taiwan outside of "conservative introductions through friends"? I mean, the way I meet and chat up girls in Europe, Russia, The Philippines and even America definitely does NOT work in Taiwan. Saying "Hi how are you" or "Excuse me miss" or flirting or complimenting them does NOT elicit an open sociable response from them. They either react by ignoring you or looking annoyed, and you get the vibe that it is inappropriate.
Even the act of approaching them itself feels uncomfortable, creepy, inappropriate and out of bounds. I KNOW it is not my imagination or due to any lack of bravery on my part either. It's like the vibe of the culture is constantly telling me "Mind your own business. Do not talk to girls that you see. Keep your distance and leave them alone.communication is for business-related purposes only. We exist to work, not socialize. "
So what can you do? How do you get an introverted, repressed, closed, and stuck up girl to open up? (pardon my frankness)
Is there a socially acceptable Chinese way of approaching or chatting up girls in Taiwan?
2. How do you even tolerate living in Taiwan for long? Every time I go out I feel so depressed and gloomy. It's awful. I am very sensitive and feel vibes and energy around me very acutely. I can't imagine any average Joe in the US coming to Taiwan and fitting in. Taiwan seems to be a workaholic culture, not a fun, relaxed, passionate culture. But of course, it's taboo to mention that, because you aren't supposed to see things the way they are.
Can you give me serious answers to these questions, with no bull or politically correct claptrap?
Thank you.
Update: I was just at Pizza Hut today. And damn! This SUPER HOT girl walked in with sexy smooth legs and face. I said Hi to her but she ignored me. I wanted to say it louder or approach her, but it felt so illegal and wrong! I hate that! It was EXCRUCIATING just sitting there and watching her, not being able to do anything about it! I felt so handicapped and incapacitated. I hate that. Every time I go out in Taiwan this happens! I can't stand it! What can I do? Why can't Taiwan be more socially open like most other countries? How do other expats here tolerate this? It's EXCRUCIATING and painful to deal with this everyday here! It's so FRUSTRATING beyond words! What can I do?
What I hate the most is that it is taboo to point out the truth about this, just like in the US, where no matter how unfairly men are treated by women, no matter how many double standards there are against them, they cannot complain about it or tell the truth about it, else they will be condemned as losers, sexists or mysnogymists. That sucks. Essentially you aren't allowed to say the truth, but are expected to follow the hive mentality and mind control that the culture and media programs into you, no matter what! It's like "follow your programming, do not speak the truth".

I don't know if you guys use CL to look for fun or not, but there has been a notice that appeared a couple of times recently; reading:
"This website has been monitored by the Taiwan (R.O.C.) po-lice. Whoever spreads, broadcasts or issues the news and information concerning sex service (sex trade) in the website may violate Taiwan laws (maximum sentence is up to 7 years imprisonment). If the post is made in Taiwan, the actor’s mobile phone and Internet service may be suspended. For visitors to Taiwan, please refrain from posting or seeking the abovementioned illegal service in Taiwan. "
I am not sure who is behind this, or if it is to be taken seriously or not, but just wanted to let everyone know. CL was also hit a while back with somebody deleting all posts, marking them as spam so they would be deleted.
Otherwise, happy hunting!

But if you want more discreet action then head up to Nanjing Sec.2 next to the China airlines building, there is an old fashion style "barber shop" that will give you FS in one of those reclining barberchairs (for those old enough to remember those days) and you get to choose the girl before you go up for 3300 (have not been there a while so prices may have changed).
In the other direction on Nanjing Sec. 5 is my favorite barber shop. I have done several reports on the place previously so you can read up on the place. For 3300 you get a woman (no young ones here) but they have a seperate place where they have real beds so you can stretch out and give her a good hump. Girls are not that young but some are comparable to Ceasers (only with brighter lights) and many fuck like horny teenagers and I usually have a lot of fun there.
So stay on Nanjing and go up and down the street. Cheers

It's too hot for me to go out during the day, I sweat balls here in this country. So I only go out at night.
I went to IKEA today to actually look at things to buy, and then I saw a huge sign that said sauna 15F I had no clue that Caesars was here I thought it was at another mall south on the muzha line. Anyways I went to the elevator area, as the mall just closed and I saw the types of customers that place caters to (businessmen) and I got timid LOL, I look really young! And I had a backpack on with runners and tshirt. Anyways I didn't go there for that reason anyways so I just told myself Ok at least you know where it is now.
Afterwards still feeling antsy and wanting to explore the places you guys talk about I went to Longshan. I walked up kangdin Road, and passed by about 4 or 5 old women (40s-50+ dressed in local type dress/miniskirts) interesting some had a pink slip of paper in their hand, with only one that looked Okay and she was smiling I just smiled back and she gave me a little pssst in my ear, but I just kept walking =\ All in the meanwhile I'm really nervous as I don't look like I fit in the area OR its cause I look like a middle school student =(Anyways I went too far north, so I hung a left and walked back south on XIchang Road I believe, did not see anything.
I then reached back to the night market area, Huashi snake Road, and there was a team of SWAT patrolling, then walking back through the nightmarket street to the MRT station, I turned right, and headed down a alley with small KTVs? Boy was I scared here too, I saw more nasty looking old women, SUDDENLY I saw a YOUNG ONE walking hand in hand briskly with a slightly older girl, and I turned to follow as there was 2 LE at the end of the alley I was on. They then went to the alley (262) and the older one directed the young one to go into one of the places and said something like yea go to table number one or something. I hung around across the street just smoking and observing, while another younger possibly not taiwanese girl on cellphone was circled by a guy on scooter, but she just waved him off.
Last train was coming so I just pussied out and went home =(
Shittiest "report" ever.

Also remember that girls that go to clubs/pubs go in packs (3 or more people). Getting their telephone number is easy, but getting one to break away is difficult. Having money and a sense of humor works better than being young, good looking, and being nice. In my experience, being a dick kinda helps as since they're being bitches in front of her friends, it's a form of social interaction, just don't go too far.
