If you can read Chinese Yahoo Taiwan travel pages have loads of hotel reviews put up by locals. These reports have links to maps so it is easy to see the location.

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually found one that sounds pretty good - Ta Shun Hotel in Ximending... they recently redid the hotel and have a 1/2 price deal going right now, so prices are quite reasonable.

(I tried the Kingshi as recommended below, but they never responded to my e-mail, and their online reservations formis only in Chinese, which I do not know enough of).

Dutch44's nice report on Taipei stimulated me to throw in a question for anyone familiar with the scene. I am about to go there in a couple months and have been doing the RTFF homework. I think I have read all the posts by now, but very little in the way of hotel information is posted.

I'll be by myself as a tourist in Taipei and doing some travel around Taiwan (not sure where yet), so I have to watch my budget. I am curious about hotels in Taipei. Other reports I see mention hotels that seem expensive (guys on a business expense account, I am guessing). Any tips for a lone traveler who is lookiing for decent, well-located lodging for US $50 - 75 per day? I am not finding much on that in this forum.

Next day I traveled to another city, Hsinchu. I was just looking around. When we left (with a car) the A1 exit into what I think is the road that leads into the main centre, I suddenly saw two sexy girls sitting in a bar, with only bikinis on.
