1 - Check in can be a nightmare. They screwed me up last time and I never got the suite that I purchased and paid for.

    2. Housekeeping. Housekeeping is not good. Expect to need more toilet paper, towels, and walk on carpet that feels it hasn't been vacuumed in a month.

    3. Breakfast is a battle ground. Think of 100 hungry tigers fighting for food enough for 80 hungry tigers. Don't be surprised if you never get a piece of that bacon that was promised.

    4. Something will be broken in the room. The kettle. The big fabric covered light that makes the room romantic. The toilet paper holder. The squirt pump on the shampoo bottle.

    5. Check out at the last possible minute can be a zoo. I had Indians barge in front of me multiple times. , they didn't wait their turn in the queue. Yes, I know, political correctness. I call them like I see them.

    6. One escort girl wouldn't come to Ambassador because she thought I was Indian (I'm farang). Guilt by association.

Next trip I won't stay at Ambassador.
I complained because the washer next to the WC had shit on it and housekeeping never cleans these.

I've had Indians and Pakistanis sit at my table and even try to take my ladies chair. I had to chase them off.

Something always broken is right, and housekeeping is low staffed so they never finish in time.

Towels always missing or they never bring, they forget.

Air Con is either full on or full off. You can't set it to a comfortable level.

Arabs that think they rule the world and are very pushy.

But you get what you pay for and the price is always the best deal. The view is great and the pool is huge.

But I have decided that nothing lower than Soi 19. There are good hotels there but not worth the hassle unless you want the Landmark.

    Double / single occupancy.

Only if breakfast is inclusive then and then only they ask for double occupancy charges.

Usually the room charge per night is the same for double occupancy. When you book double occupancy the hotel allows two persons to occupy the room. You can still amend you booking to double occupancy. Shouldn't be a problem.

Its ok but to all others too (not seasoned mongers).

Golden Rule 1: Always contact hotel direct and get joiner policy. For new hotels I carry reply with me for proof on first visit. I often phrase " I am considering booking your hotel for a lengthy stay and will have some ladies discretely visiting me throughout my stay. Hopefully this will not be a problem" They can read between the lines. Or in more liberal countries like Thai, Phil, Indon, Malays etc I just come out and ask for joiner policy..
Yeah good point, I saw some reports that indicated girl friendly and didn't think to confirm whether one person stay or two person stay would affect it. Kind of stupid on my part since I normally book two people stay and it was only a few bucks difference yet I booked one person for a king size room. I'll contact dream to check if it'll be an issue and also hotels. Con to see if I can add a persons occupancy to my reservation.

Depends on your style and what you want to be around. I have noticed in my many stays in Bkk, that from Soi 19 to Nana is Indians and Arabs. Soi 19 or T21 to 33 and beyond is Causations and Japanese. I prefer Soi 19 to 33. The Suk is cleaner and walking is better because they do not have the crap tables that sell stuff. It just feels better.

Golden Rule 2: Always book for 2 - its amazing how many sisters, cousins, auntie's and other family girls I have come visit me. BUT expect if you want a double some will charge.

Remember PPPPPP. Proper planning prevents [CodeWord140] poor performance.

Any thoughts if the girl issue will be a problem at dream? Everything else seems good from what I've read here and heard.

For taxis, you cannot get a good price from a guy that has parked and exited his Taxi. I refuse to talk to them. You can get a meter use from a Taxi that is driving past, that you flag down, providing you are not in Soi 4, Soi 23, etc.

I don't find having girls with me makes very much difference, although I do speak Thai.
I've had the exact opposite experience the few times I've done it they insist on meter and say forget the tip. Tuk tuk's are often more available in the Nana Soi cowboy area for a short ride and again the girls I was with weren't giving even an extra baht to them and they new it.

I only speak Thai a very little bit, enough to give the driver instructions or directions if needed. But, like you, having a Thai girl with me does not mean I will get a fair deal or that the driver will certainly use the meter. I am still a Farang, with or without a Thai girl sitting next to me! LOL. And I don't recall a Thai girl ever waving off a taxi from the lower Sukhumvit area because, seeing me, he cited 100 baht off meter to take us to a destination she and I both know a meter would register 35-37 baht. In fact, Thai girls are the only ones who seem insistent on my rounding up whatever the fare is on a meter in order to give the driver a "tip", even when he has done nothing extraordinary about driving us a few blocks, which most anyone else in a taxi with me will say is not necessary.

She will if she can. Or if she cares. I overheard on Soi 4 the other night as the bars emptied out "he says 300 baht". Girl to customer before they get into taxi. Customer said ok and they got in. Must have been going to the airport.
