Hotel recommendations near BKK (Suvarnabhumi airport)

I will arrive via a flight that reaches at 11 pm and I will depart by 9 am flight the next day.

Any reasonable hotel recommendations (close to BKK , Suvarnabhumi airport) GF and staff is cooperative to make the necessary arrangements for room service.

(I hear some negative reports about Opal Studio @ Tower 3), any preferences ? (this is high rate but I am only staying a few nights each side of my thailand trip.)

    First-hand experiences really appreciated....
I've stayed in GP many times over the last few years and it has definitely improved a lot since they have refurbished each tower. I tend to go for The Executive Studio as it's a good compromise between a basic room and a suite having being a large room with a sofa, coffee table, huge fridge and a microwave for blasting the dodgy food I've staggered back to the room with at 4am!!

Last trip about 4 weeks ago, I stayed 3 nights in Royal suite which was maybe a bit overkill for someone who doesn't make it out of bed til the afternoon!! Very nice, big seperate living room, big king size bedroom, kitchen area with washer/dryer, big LCD TV etc. On last 3 nights back in Bangkok I didn't see the point in the suite so went for the Executive Studio. Although nice and big it was a bit shabby and tired compared to others I've been in there.

Always had perfect service there and the staff are always very helpful and pleasant and remember me from previous visits (usually as I've had to make the walk of shame out past the reception each afternoon with an overnight friend as Executive studios tend to be in Tower 1).

2 pools but both small. Ok for sitting in the sun for a few hours. Nice gym though even with best intentions I've only managed to visit it twice in the 10+ times I've stayed there.

Very handy for Nana and Soi Cowboy (short taxi ride or 10 minute walk).

    good eats

[QUOTE=Etaoin2003]Sounds like a good buffet! Many cultures make no distinction between breakfast and dinner food types. I have had curry, stir-fry, etc., on the buffet at Asian hotels. It's probably better for you than eggs!

You got to remember that the clientele at that hotel was at least 45% Arab. Thus the possibility of the hotel to accommodate a wider range of religious dietary restrictions. Well thats what I seen when I stayed at the Grand….. Dam it all i ate the Bacon LOL

Novotel lotus soi 33 is guest friendly again?

    Someone can confirm?

I don't know about YOU but I tend to eat less in the heat and humidity. I lose weight, but it finds me again after I get home.

Note that the Irish Independent story says fruit smoothies aren't good for you. I sucked one down over by the Grand Palace. Gave me a brain freeze.
A smoothy can be fine as long as don't add sugar and a good diet book will advice not to over-do fruit intake that has high sugar content. Its better to get the fruit fibre than drink juice.

Germany has the most impressive breakfast buffets, in my experience (haven't visited every country) and some other European countries do well too.
But the breakfast variety at Majestic Grande has a very good variety to hopefully keep many different styles of people happy. Has all that cereal and toast stuff that I never touch too.

Eggs are good for you (modern scientific thinking).
Curry is doubtful due to coconut saturated fats.

    Grande and Suites

I stayed here myself about 3 years ago. I had originally booked into the Majestic Suites for 4 nights but the last night they were fully booked so moved me over to the Grande instead. Very nice place but definitely a bit more upmarket than the Suites.

The Suites has been well documented on this site and is a favourite for mongers with it's close location to Nana. I had a good stay there 3 years ago and brought a few girls back there. But I really hit it off with a few of the girls working at the front desk (they are no longer there). They would tease and flirt anytime I walked through the lobby. So on my last night there I called them on it and said after their shift they should be ready to take me out for a night on the town. They positively shreiked with joy and a quick conversation in Thai ensued. Then they turned to me and told me to meet them in the lobby later that evening. They showed me a great time at a place called The Coliseum (I think) which seemed to be more of a Thai place. Couldn't really get anything going with them but managed to catch the eye of another lady at the adjacent table. Still keep in touch with them to this day but missed on my recent visit to BKK since they are all working outside of the country now in the hotel industry. Good times though.

About a month ago stayed at the other Majestic property called Citichic. Very pleased with it and will write more later along with several FRs I haven't had time to write yet!

Its probably a bit better than a boutique hotel.
Rates are close to 3K Baht on Agoda. Internet may cost extra. Its certainly a good hotel if you are prepared to pay that much.
I enjoyed it but generally go for cheaper options.

    Recent Stay Majestic Grande--Great Hotel

Just returned from 2 weeks in Thailand and Cambodia, including 3 nights Majestic Grande during Songkran. The experience was great, here's the mini points everyone should know:

The hotel is Small and Vertical. Unlike the Holiday Inn Silom where we stayed last year, which has a huge, expansive lobby, this feels small and intimate, although there is a piano and someone playing often. Truly a boutique hotel. From front lobby to elevator, a very short walk past a restaraunt and cocktail lounge. Staff is flawless, polite, kind, and made no complaints at all when guests returned dripping from Songkran madness. My room on the 14th floor had a good view, the floor was solid granite with inlaid teak underneath kingsize bed, glass desk overlooking window, fresh fruit basket (a real surprise). Bathroom had huge tub/shower, and the whole place had great home automation with a bedside controller that worked flawlessly.

Breakfast buffet was very nice, selection of fresh fruits, bakery stuff, sausages, eggs to order, etc, plus dinner entree items on the breakfast buffet as well (Spinach Lassagne and curried sea bass, among others, plus the full cheese tray. Maybe they are trying to help the jet-lagged guests? All delicious! ). I did one day takeout from Annie's, which is literally right across the street from the lobby entrance. Zero problem with staff about takeout, we arrived and returned at all hours, never asked to register. Staff enters the room several times a day to clean and re-make the bed, this was a pleasant surprise: we fucked, went to breakfast, bed was made when we returned. So we fucked again, went to lunch, bed remade when we returned. Not sure what the rates are for this hotel, since I got this as part of a package tour, but I'd certainly come back to this hotel again.

I was thinking of Novotel 33. I got an O.K. price (still higher than GP) last year but use of Internet 24 hours really stuffed up the price.
But O.K. if you are in the higher spend bracket. Then again could go to Livingstone's much cheaper.

I expect that GP rates have started to go up after renovations, but 2199 Baht (not ++) deals (from internet) were available recently (not peak season of course). However I upgraded to a 2499 room. All depends on how full the Hotel is re what rates you can get.

When the rates are too high, I'll simply go somewhere else.

Thermae is an easy walk and Soi Cowboy can be reache don foot in 15 minutes. GP is definitely girl friendly.
I have been staying at Grand President several times, also.

    Points:
    * Its often easy to get a good price package that includes room for 2, breakfast, and internet included. I usually use web site to book. Some rooms have mini kitchen. Can extend booking at sane price as package possible at front desk saving hassle of using the web again..
    * Pool in towers 1 and 2 but avail to tower 3 guests.
    * Breakfast is not up to standard of more expensive Hotels: Majestic Grande or Novotel, but far superior to Dynasty Grande and cheaper too. Reasonable amount of choice (even Indian food avail). Closes at 10.30AM sharp (not the best).
    * Other nearby Restaurants:
Japanese next door is good, as is German Pub across the road, and also Rosa Bieng (spelling?). Do not go to Zanzibar! Ambassador smorgasboard is nearby too.
Grande Business Inn Coffee shop open 24 hrs for food.
Food stalls on the street to eat cheaply, e.g. BBQ chicken, Som Tam, Mango & sticky rice, BBQ sticks, etc.
    * Staff are variable, some excellent, some useless. Learn who to pick out.
    * The hotel is fairly dead. Its quiet and doesn't have a vibe to it. For a vibe, go to Livingstone's Lodge instead.
    * 7/11 is very close and also have superb Supermarket called the Villa Market.
    * Laundry shop in a small sub Soi (near Villa Mkt?) and a couple of hairdressers. I chose the one that looked above board. A Spa is across the road but that is not for me.
    * Nana BTS station (5 mins walk)
    * Can walk to either Nana Plaza or cowboy - its half way between.
    * Its a short walk to Subway on Soi Eden (Soi 7/1)
    * There is a disco with many hot chicks nearby. I am too old and have GF with me.
    * Cannot turn right at Sukhumwit Road. This causes taxis to use back Sois to get to Soi 3 and can be bad traffic jam at times. Consider walking to Suk and crossing to other side using Nana Station. From back Sois can also get to Soi Asoke. Through back Sois can walk to Petchaburi road in about 10-15 mins if weather O.K. and traffic bad.
    * Generally room has a safe and my last room had a DVD player.

    * When I am in heavy mongering mode, I prefer to stay at Livingstone's Lodge (slightly cheaper), but I won't take my GF there. It may be safe, but then again, too many LL girls and guests know too much and there is a risk should my GF find out too much.
    * I used to like Dynasty Grande, but they got rather more expensive and a bad daytime chef.
    * Novotel is good except that they charge a fortune for Internet. So in the end too pricey.
    * I gave up Grande Business Inn (Soi 11) due to hard beds and noisy (also no pool) but still eat at the 24 Hr coffee shop sometimes.

P.S. With AsiaTravler2's info, I am hoping to try some budget Hotel options

Another possibility is to rent/buy a room a little out of BKK (very cheaply) from a girl that I have known for too long but still like to screw when she can come to BKK. But need to try to see if I can put up with traffic jams first. Maybe I can do my internet stuff from inside a taxi???
