    Thanks for the suggestions, Syzgies.

I am still trying to decide on my plans, and I am considering visiting Phnom Penh and HCMC first, and finishing in Bangkok.

Trying to be flexible given the political situation, too. Not sure but prices may be more reasonable because of politics now.

Looking at serviced apartments and small hotels that offer very discounted rooms for long stay and my budget is to stay around 20000-30000 baht for the month.
Don't see much because your budget is a bit low. Sam's Lodge and Unico Express are 2 very cheap Hotels that I can remember but never tried around 1K per night. Sam's Lodge would not be a good idea right now as its Soi 19.

    There is also Ruamchit Travelodge.

You can do searches on web sites like Wotif for Hotels under a certain price and in Sukhumvit area. Then you could contact them and ask what is price for a month.

Why do you want to stay for a month? Maybe you can't afford the mongering for a month too and might get bored with Bangkok after 2 weeks. Pattaya would be cheaper.

I have stayed in Taipan about 3 times before and it is not a very friendly hotel, They keep staring if you get a girl with you and also need an ID of the girl for what you have to wait at the desk and be there to sign a paper. Not so friendly attitude if you plan to get more than one girl avoid this hotel.

Anyone ever try the S. M. Grande Residence?

(Don't think it refers to S&M but perhaps an inside joke?)

    Thanks in advance,

I never did (because they didn't had a swimming pool and no washing machine) but try Trendy Soi 13.

As I remember well they offered 1 bedroom apartments for THB 25. 000.

If the demonstrations of tomorrow (January 13th) is leading to new and longer unrest I guess also the hotel chains will lower their prices.

Honestly I hope that after February 2nd things are coming back to normal; I plan to come back to the area from mid February till early April.

    1. the main problem was that the internet (free wifi) speed is so bad it is unusable. you could easily wait five or ten minutes for a simple page to load (which often it did not). when i complained to reception, they actually had the nerve to ask 'have you tried turning your computer off and on again'? they never fixed the problem for the whole of my visit. i asked them if i could pay for better internet, but they said it was not possible. in the end i had to keep going to starbucks nearby and having to pay by the hour (or day). which is not the point. the point is the frickin' inconvenience.
many hotels have unreliable internet. i have iphone with ais sim card upgraded to relatively new high speed 3g network (used get much slower speed). using personal hotspot on the phone to be my laptop's internet connection i get faster web page response than virtually all hotels i have tried and more reliable. its always good to have this at least as backup connection.

    Internet

    Soi 31.

Most unusual to have poor internet in Bangkok and indeed Thailand. I stayed in half a dozen hotels in N Thailand last November and had better and faster Internet than the UK.

It's a bummer not having good Internet now.

    S31 Hotel: Review

stayed at the s31 at christmas in one of their 'duplex' suites. here's my take on the place.

    1. the main problem was that the internet (free wifi) speed is so bad it is unusable. you could easily wait five or ten minutes for a simple page to load (which often it did not). when i complained to reception, they actually had the nerve to ask 'have you tried turning your computer off and on again'? they never fixed the problem for the whole of my visit. i asked them if i could pay for better internet, but they said it was not possible. in the end i had to keep going to starbucks nearby and having to pay by the hour (or day). which is not the point. the point is the frickin' inconvenience.

    2. the accommodation is not bad, but personally i would prefer two separate rooms in a traditional layout rather than this half-assed duplex arrangement. in fact it's more like a single room, with a mezzanine area for the bed. for example if one person is sleeping, then the other person can go and watch tv downstairs, but the other person can still hear the tv upstairs, which might keep them awake.

    3. the quality of food we were given by room service was poor. we had it twice, so they can't say it was a one-off. the thai food was so bad (compared to what you find in restaurants and bars in the local area) , my girl was actually laughing about it.

    4. on the positive side, the bed was really good. very comfortable, and very big. ideal for 3-somes (although i did not partake).

    5. i thought the location was fine. it is actually on sukhumvit (at the junction of soi 31, obviously).

    6. i rented 3 of the in-house movies, and the tv picture / sound for them all was very good. the normal tv reception was not bad either. better than in some sukhumvit hotels certainly.

    7. if you are one of those guys who is concerned about the 'walk of shame' when you bring a girl through reception, this hotel is not a bad choice because you bypass reception anyway, because it is on the 8th floor (although you still have to pass the guy on the door downstairs).

that's about it. in summary, i would say it was not a bad stay. but if you think you might want to use hotel internet (even if only occasionally) , my advice is do not stay here. it really can [CodeWord140] you off and put you in a bad mood. and avoid the room service.

Also 2 bedroom suites are often extremely expensive. I know Emporium has great suites but they are expensive. I'll have to look into Phachara Suites.

I'll add a few more 2 bedroom suites to Paul Kausch's list. Thanks Paul BTW. Grand President has huge two bedroom suites with a king bed in each room in Tower 3. I've stayed in them for the past 8-9 years but I want to find another place. Also On8 has connecting rooms with a large bed in each room. Connecting rooms seem to be a better (cheaper) option if they have large beds. Can anybody recommend a hotel with connecting rooms and two large beds?
Have you tried AirBNB? Use the filter for 2 bedrooms. There may be something that meets your requirements.

The Column on Soi 16, reasonably close to Soi Cowboy.

Fraser Suites on Soi 11 reasonably close to Level and Climax Clubs.

Phachara Suites on Soi 6 reasonably close to Annie's and Nana Plaza
Grand Centrepoint Ratchadamri. But usually 2 bedrooms gone for long time service.

The newer Centrepoint Terminal 21 location might also have them.

Yes, that's a really important point. I know The Column's 2-bedroom suites have two king beds. I don't know about the others. My experience is finding 2 kings is not highly likely unless it's a hotel that turns a one-bedroom suite into a two-bedroom suite with a connecting room.

    Majestic Grande surely has.

I just found similar pricing at majestic grand in so 2: closer to some action, better rooms (I would say more comfortable, but that is me) , better service (Livingstone was going down in the last 2 years) , better breakfast (albeit till 10. 30am).

I also experienced that, gaining knowledge and experience about the town, there was no need of an inhouse sports bar (with outrageous bar fine between 1000/1500 be.)

Soi 33 in itself did not have any value. I headed there just for Livingstone, thanks to the board.

Was happy to do so, but also happy to have moved elsewhere.

But do not limit yourself t my suggestion, plenty of more.

Set the deal and terms before moving out to the hotel. IMHO they might not be keen to do so, but it is just my opinion.
