I've heard that Chateau de Bangkok is NOT Guest Friendly.

I have stayed there 10 plus times never a problem no fee 1 or 2 ladys ok.

For guys trying to figure out where to stay on their first visit... here's a tip that may be helpful. I have come to like Soi 11. Lots of good choices in the area, but sometimes too many can be daunting. I stayed in the Federal one night, but it is older and less attractive. Moved to the Grand President for a much better option.

Stayed in Tower 3 (Soi 11, on the other side of the street from main part of Grand President, behind the German restaurant) for part of my visit recently, and thought it was a pretty swell choice:

1. Extremely GF - checked IDs and called to make sure all was well when girl leaves.

2. Right now with low season and the bad economy, lots of rooms available. As a walkup, they gave me a better rate than I could find on the internet - 1999/day including breakfast for 2 (make sure you register for 2 - they actually made sure of that for me) and free internet (but make sure you ask for that, as it is not automatic but they give it easily). Rooftop pools on both buildings you can use.

3. Soi 11 is to me a very good location. Easy walking distance to Nana, Thermae, Soi Cowboy (about 15 min.), Beer Garden, Annies, King & I (good nonsexual massage), lots of nice restaurants, laundry service up the street by 7/11 much cheaper than in hotel, lots of streetwalkers at night (or even in day sometimes) if that's your thing, and an exit from the Nana Skytrain station that dumps you right in front of Soi 11.

20B tip for carrying suitcase resulted a sour face from the bell boy

I got some negative reactions to the same amount from a bell boy
and front desk staff at the Nana hotel.

100 baht and they act genuinely thankful.

Upstairs with maids and laundry service is a different story.

20 baht and they're content.

To make clear - the Athenee 1999 baht rate is good through September 30th, 2009. Bookings must be made by May 24th.

This is a Top Tier hotel - not unusual to see regular rooms going for 5000 baht.

I asked earlier is this hotel GF and got no answer so answering to myself - It is GF.

It was the most luxurious hotel I have been. Very elegant and courteous staff. Extremely nice pool area. The lunch buffet 1800B.

I felt misplaced in there. 20B tip for carrying suitcase resulted a sour face from the bell boy It is in business area lot of embassies around so for getting near action you will need to get a Skytrain from nearby Phloen Chit BTS station (or taxi) to Nana or where ever you are going. I once walked back (in sweat) from Nana so in principle it is in walking distance.

A new website will be up soon. Still there is the problem, that all rooms are a bit different - we were building the rooms into an existing building, so there is not a real standard.

I will arrive 23th sep and stay 1 week (or more) in Bangkok.

I should mention that they do have wifi, but it is not free. I avoided the hefty charges by going up to the corner and using McDonald's at 60 bt/hour.

if there will be really such a deal i'd suggest to stay at grande sukhumvit bangkok (formerly sofitel) at sukhumvit soi 6, 5 minutes to nep, 1 minute to [CodeWord900], 3 minutes to aviva masasage, 5 minutes to beergarden soi 7, 3 minutes to nana skytrain station ... and a hotel that provides 5 star quality and services (or at least comes close to this)

in bangkok: yes

they usually do or at least they did when i asked. they should have no intention to lie to you at that topic. if they don't want mongers to stay at their hotel and they "lie" to you about joiner fee, in the end everyone will be upset.

zauber - apparently not all the accor hotels in bangkok are gf - rambis youth reported recently that the novotel siam was not... perhaps it is not representative, but i would check on specific hotels to be sure.
